R.I.P. Kobe, GiGi and all who died.

My rage ALL WEEK has been towards Jabba Whitlock and the WaPo reporter.

Kobe put the spotlight on his idiocy way back - maybe it's been burning inside Jaba ever since.

I saw this Mon. and thought, "Does Jabba Whitlock know he's Jabba Whitlock?" (to borrow a phrase)
All these tears now,

- and all you had to say about Kobe thru the years was:

Kobe's last game, he had this to say-

The problem with Fatlock is that there is some truth to what he’s saying about Kobe’s game. So just stick with it.

You mean to tell me he just started to come around to Kobe the week before he passed?

He fronting hard because he has to save face now.

I really liked the tributes that the LA Clippers did for Kobe.

I'm glad that Donald Sterling is no longer the owner because I can picture the Clippers taking the court with a half assed tribute or none at all with him as owner.

Also I'd leave Kobe's jersey visible for the remainder of the season when the Clippers are home team or even for the remainder of their time at Staples (I do believe the Clips are going to move out at some at some point?)

Damn his family relationships were pretty sad. I didn't know it was this bad:

She willingly skipped her son's wedding... She canceled herself. If you don't like his soon to be wife, it's your fucking son! you suck that shit up...and I think weddings are mostly silly.. it's like celebrating graduations on the 1st day of freshman year but you can't bail on your own child like that...

I am 100% aligned with this approach. Hell, he even applied the same standard to his kids.

Sounds like the fam wanted a free ride and Kobe wasn't having it.

I suppose it's all relative at that though. Kobe was worth $600M, so it's really tough to tell your parents to go work for $50K a year. At a minimum, I'd set them up w/ a business and let them manage it. Hell, even a franchise like Chik-fil-A, just to give them a sense of self worth.

This is a tough one.

Kobe Bryant: His 'Letter to My Younger Self

Dear 17-year-old self,
When your Laker dream comes true tomorrow, you need to figure out a way to invest in the future of your family and friends. This sounds simple, and you may think it’s a no-brainer, but take some time to think on it further.
I said INVEST.
I did not say GIVE.
Let me explain.
Purely giving material things to your siblings and friends may appear to be the right decision. You love them, and they were always there for you growing up, so it’s only right that they should share in your success and all that comes with it. So you buy them a car, a big house, pay all of their bills. You want them to live a beautiful, comfortable life, right?
But the day will come when you realize that as much as you believed you were doing the right thing, you were actually holding them back.
You will come to understand that you were taking care of them because it made YOU feel good, it made YOU happy to see them smiling and without a care in the world — and that was extremely selfish of you. While you were feeling satisfied with yourself, you were slowly eating away at their own dreams and ambitions. You were adding material things to their lives, but subtracting the most precious gifts of all: independence and growth.
Understand that you are about to be the leader of the family, and this involves making tough choices, even if your siblings and friends do not understand them at the time.
Invest in their future, don’t just give.
Use your success, wealth and influence to put them in the best position to realize their own dreams and find their true purpose. Put them through school, set them up with job interviews and help them become leaders in their own right. Hold them to the same level of hard work and dedication that it took for you to get to where you are now, and where you will eventually go.

I’m writing you now so that you can begin this process immediately, and so that you don’t have to deal with the hurt and struggle of weaning them off of the addiction that you facilitated. That addiction only leads to anger, resentment and jealousy from everybody involved, including yourself.
As time goes on, you will see them grow independently and have their own ambitions and their own lives, and your relationship with all of them will be much better as a result.
There’s plenty more I could write to you, but at 17, I know you don’t have the attention span to sit through 2,000 words.
The next time I write to you, I may touch on the challenges of mixing blood with business. The most important advice I can give to you is to make sure your parents remain PARENTS and not managers.
Before you sign that first contract, figure out the right budget for your parents — one that will allow them to live beautifully while also growing your business and setting people up for long-term success. That way, your children’s kids and their kids will be able to invest in their own futures when the time comes.
Your life is about to change, and things are about to come at you very fast. But just let this sink in a bit when you lay down at night after another nine-hour training day.
Trust me, setting things up right from the beginning will avoid a ton of tears and heartache, some of which remains to this day.
Much love,
Kobe

Fuck that, how are you going to be worth a couple hundred mill and not hook your mom up? Sure if she gets greedy you put her ass on a budget, but you cant just drop the people who raised you like that.

Btw Kobe did always come off as a asshole though.

She did get greedy, from reading the article. They weren't happy with what he was giving them so they tried to sell his stuff.

That's how. I see nothing wrong w/ how he approached it. You cripple your fam by just passing out money, bro. What do they have to strive for if that's the case?

They strived for him to be a NBA star and thats what he became, so if he has to take care of his parents so be it.

Here comes the lawsuits.

Kobe left the NBA court for the last time with 4.1 seconds left on the clock. And left this world at 41.
Thanks for giving more ammo to the conspiracy nuts. Here’s a better breakdown of the numbers.

He offered to buy them a house, they said it wasn't balling enough and were selling his shit behind his back.

My moms would never do that kind of shit. I remember when I got my first gold album I sent them to Hawaii and to my pops childhood city. I can't imagine them saying nah, we don't fly coach.

That being said I would give anything to have my parents back, so I would have to make it good with them unless they are on some Shameless Frank Gallagher shit.
