We've checked out the new townhouses & a couple in the original section(s).
Nice area overall minus the 5-10% of section 8 folks that live in the apartments that are in the cut off Hurston lane. Not bad but still lol

I always liked the fact that I can get to 295 and downtown in minutes. Plus the SEC is supposed to be building an office by the old Wendy’s off New York Ave.

Not too far from you. One block outta DC, in Hyattsville. Familiar with the changes but it's still surprising. I'm from Texas Ave, SE. My auntie did my babysitting after school in River Terrace (what I would've argued was slept on 20yrs ago but unfortunately not anymore. Lotta niggas from Uptown done ran to NE. Don't get me started on what's going on currently on Benning Rd. My nephew still in Paradise/Mayfair I go get him constantly he keep me updated on that side.

Trying to buy my first home in Columbia MD at the end of summer

We owned a few houses in Deanwood (my dad was born & raised there), I lived over there from 99-2011. Once they started to clean up Mayfair in the early to mid 2000's it started to change. I was riding around over there a couple of months ago & looked at this townhouse back there by the elementary school. Good mix of professional white & black folks, not to mention the newish apartment buildings.

I have so many friends who inherited homes in the city and sold them quickly and cheaply that have doubled and and some cases tripled in value from when they were sold in the early 2000’s. I pleaded with them to just rent them out but, growing up in the city, we dreamed of the safety of the suburbs. No one told them they would have 2-3 hour daily commutes . SMH
Man if you have a home in the city from way back when that was inherited to you, you’re sitting on a potential gold mine. To your point, renting it out as a rental property is a cash cow and passive income today. With the influx of so many transplants from around the country, you’d be sitting on a property that could essentially pay your rent somewhere else.

My cousin bought a condo near the Washington Nationals stadium about 15 years ago right before they started building it.
At the time, the area was kinda sketchy and considered "transitional".
Fast forward to today and the area is mostly white folks with no kids walking their dogs ordering overpriced coffees and shit. LOL
I was there to see it with my own eyes, I couldn't believe it.
My cousin moved to Dallas and now rents his place out and makes a killing off the rent.
Made enough for him to buy another place in Dallas which he does short-term rentals.

Yeah that area is booming. My dentist use to be over there by the navy yard.

I wonder how there were five suspects but only one 12 year old boy charged.

Youngest pushed in front of the train?

Second victim should not have left his car running.

I also wonder what the victims look like. I could never imagine being targeted like that.

Seems like the 12 yr old might be the first one they caught.

Man they will try just about anyone if they have numbers. I remember being on the train coming home from work & these 4 young dudes were messing with this little boy & didn't realize the man with him was his dad. Dad was about 6'5 at least 270 & in shape. We all happened to get off at the same stop, dude told the boys to leave his son alone & they just kept on. One of the boys swung on dude & missed, well it was go time..lol Dude beat the shit out of those boys, seemed like he just blacked out & folks had to step in.

They jumped a dude in the morning walking to the subway over there, plenty of folks out.

“I’m sorry about them,” Zewoldai said. “They’re young. They should be in school. They are, as I said, they are [the ages] of my kids. And what are they going to do? They can take the car. They can drive the car as long as they want but [that] doesn’t give them anything good.”

MPD said they arrested three teenage boys in connection to the carjacking and assault. A 15-year-old from Southeast D.C. was arrested and charged with armed carjacking and unauthorized use of a vehicle, while a 14-year-old from Hyattsville, Md. and a 15-year-old from Greenbelt, Md. were arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The CVS in Columbia Heights just closed, they were robbing that joint left & right, then setting up outside with tables full of for sale. The WAWA that was over there last barely a year or two, the Five Below is closing also due to rampant theft.

They need to start dropping the hammer on these folks, they need to lower the amount & start hitting these folks with felonies & after 2 arrest you get mandatory jail time.

Armed robberies, assaults, vandalism & car jacking should result in mandatory jail time & you have to serve the full term, no pleas just plain jail time. As a resident of the city I'm sick & tired of the dusty morons who have no morals, value for life or common sense.

I agree 100%. The city is losing too much money. The residents are selling their homes, closing their businesses and relocating to Virginia. Metro transit is not hiring because too many people are hoping the fares. Poor people that have vouchers are committing crimes against the middle class and the rich in NW DC…It’s just a mess.

That hammer is coming. Once that dumb broad gets out I think changes will come. What’s sad I’m hearing there are no real candidates that could run once it’s time to select a new mayor.

Yeah unfortunately that's true, the same retreads keep running & most if not all will continue the bs that Coonser is doing.

If I thought I could get the backing I'd def run, YT's & the developers would hate me..lol All this developer & over building started with Williams when he was mayor & he didn't run again because they were threatening an investigation into his dealings with Douglas Development. They are over building in the city & the vast majority of the apartment buildings are filled anywhere near capacity. Not to mention all the new office space that went up before covid hit, that folks were already saying wasn't needed & now that shit just sits empty. Then you have the mass bike lane changes all over the city even, tho all of it is barely being used.

For every resident that sells for the most there's a buyer who still wants to live in the city. In Brookland, there have been several houses that sold recently for $1mil+, not to mention a shit load slightly under that. And they just build a bunch of new townhouses up the street from me & those joints are selling. And they are about to start selling the new townhouses on the land next to the reservoir.
