James Kirkland (21-0) vs Eromosele Albert (21-1)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DB7ZVJF0

Kirkland is a beast.

d/l now...

Now I don't believe that Hatton is the only other dude that Floyd can fight, but I can tell you this: A Hatton/Mayweather II in England could generate more money (on-site and TV buyrate) than a Cotto/Mayweather fight would in the states. That would be the biggest selling point for Floyd to make a rematch with Hatton than make a fight with Cotto...

Besides, after Cotto goes through the tough battle with Margarito, he will be next in line for De La Hoya in an outdoor stadium in Cali or at the MGM Grand in Vegas in the first weekend of December. Or better yet, have Oscar finish his career at MSG where all the PR folks are at...Remember Trinidad/Hopkins? :D

I just wish Floyd would say that he don't want any part of Cotto right now, at least I could respect him, Hatton is a non-factor, and although he would make more dough it would be a straight bitch move for Floyd and he would lose more credibility than he already has.

Well by now most of you know about Floyd Jr.'s announcement of retirement...

Although it may seem as a ploy to some, remember the 2nd fight with De La Hoya wasn't signed yet...

I wish he would've fought Mosley before hanging it up but the Pretty Boy has had a HOF career regardless...Props to a great fighter

Mayweather Jr. retires, cancels rematch with De La Hoya

By Dan Rafael
ESPN.com

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- After Floyd Mayweather Jr. easily outpointed Carlos Baldomir to win the welterweight championship in November 2006, he stood at the podium at the post-fight news conference and broke down in tears as he stunningly announced his retirement from boxing.

Despite the emotional outpouring, few believed Mayweather was serious, rather that he had simply been overcome by the moment.

As it turned out, he had been.

Less than two months later, Mayweather agreed to face Oscar De La Hoya. In May 2007, Mayweather outpointed him in a fight that shattered all boxing revenue and pay-per-view records. After beating Ricky Hatton in December, plans were in motion for Mayweather-De La Hoya II to take place Sept. 20.

But cross it off the schedule.

Mayweather, 31, announced his retirement from boxing again on Friday in a move that appears much more serious than his impromptu declaration two years ago.

The rematch with De La Hoya has been canceled and Mayweather will forego the accompanying $20-plus million payday.

"It is with a heavy heart that I write you this message today," Mayweather said in a statement. "I have decided to permanently retire from boxing. This decision was not an easy one for me to make as boxing is all I have done since I was a child. However, these past few years have been extremely difficult for me to find the desire and joy to continue in the sport.

"I have said numerous times and after several of my fights over the past two years that I might not fight again. At the same time, I loved competing and winning and also wanted to continue my career for the fans, knowing they were there for me and enjoyed watching me fight. However, after many sleepless nights and intense soul-searching I realized I could no longer base my decision on anything but my own personal happiness, which I no longer could find. So I have finally made up my mind, spoken to my family, particularly my mother, and made my decision."

Mayweather was born into a boxing family and taught to fight when he could barely walk by his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., a welterweight contender in the 1980s and now one of the game's top trainers. They have been estranged for years and, after sitting out the first De La Hoya-Mayweather fight, Mayweather Sr. was set to return to train De La Hoya to defeat his son. That storyline was one of the major selling points of the rematch.

His uncle and longtime trainer, Roger Mayweather, is a former world champion and another uncle, Jeff Mayweather, also fought professionally and now trains boxers.

Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KOs) turned out to be the best of them all. He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1996 and has been flawless as a professional, winning six world titles in five divisions -- junior lightweight, lightweight, junior welterweight, welterweight and junior middleweight.

And for the past several years, he has been widely regarded as the No. 1 fighter in the world pound-for-pound.

In October 1998, in just his 18th pro fight, Mayweather earned the junior lightweight title by stopping respected veteran champion Genaro Hernandez in the eighth round of a lopsided fight.

After eight defenses, including a dominant 10th-round TKO of the late Diego "Chico" Corrales in January 2001, Mayweather moved up to the 135-pound lightweight division and claimed the title via decision against Jose Luis Castillo in the most competitive fight of his career.

He notched three defenses before moving to junior welterweight, where he ravaged Arturo Gatti over six lopsided rounds to claim a belt in June 2005 in his first pay-per-view headline fight.

Mayweather never defended that title, opting to move up again to welterweight, where he scored a major victory against Zab Judah for a belt and then defeated Baldomir for the recognized world title.

"He's been contemplating this for some time," Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser and best friend, told ESPN.com. "He's been boxing since he was a kid, well over 20 years, and he has accomplished everything he wanted to do in the sport and I support him 100 percent in his decision. What better way to go out than to go out on top?"

It is, of course, unusual for any athlete to leave at the top of his game, but Mayweather insisted that he was done for good.

"I am sorry I have to leave the sport at this time, knowing I still have my God-given abilities to succeed and future multi-million dollar paydays ahead, including the one right around the corner," he said of the now-canceled De La Hoya rematch. "But there comes a time when money doesn't matter. I just can't do it anymore. I have found a peace with my decision that I have not felt in a long time.

"Finally, I want to personally thank all of my fans for their loyalty and dedication as my career comes to a close. I always believed that their enthusiasm and support helped carry me to victory with every fight I ever had. It was a great joy to have fought for all of you. Now I hope you understand my decision and wish me well with the rest of my life."

Even though some will speculate that Mayweather will soon return, Ellerbe said the retirement was "legit, forever. He made up his mind."

He also said the retirement was not a ploy to sweeten his deal for the De La Hoya rematch, which had not been signed.

"When you have been doing this ever since you're a little kid -- his father started him out from the crib and he never worked a job before -- you get tired," Ellerbe said. "It's enough. You know what we were getting ready to do in September. Now that is off. If he is getting ready to fight the biggest fight in the sport and it's a ton of money and now he's not doing it, it tells you he is serious about this. It has nothing to do with none of that stuff. This isn't about money."

Boxing had been becoming increasingly secondary in Mayweather's life. He starred in a pair of HBO's "24/7" reality shows showing the buildup to the De La Hoya and Hatton fights. He gained even more international fame with his appearance on the hit reality series "Dancing with the Stars" last year followed by a heavily publicized wrestling match against "Big Show" at World Wrestling Entertainment's WrestleMania 24 in March.

Mayweather has also branched out into concert promoting and has been looking into promoting mixed marital arts with Dallas Mavericks owner and fellow "Dancing with the Stars" competitor Mark Cuban, who also owns an MMA company.

Reaction from the boxing community was swift.

"Floyd has been a sensational competitor and we've been honored and privileged to telecast all of his significant fights on HBO," said Ross Greenburg, the president of HBO Sports. "We wish him well and appreciate his loyalty and integrity."

Richard Schaefer, the CEO of De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, was surprised by Mayweather's decision and said he will look for another fall fight for De La Hoya.

"I have been informed of Floyd's decision and I wish him good luck in retirement," said Schaefer, who was informed of the decision earlier Friday. "We will move on. Sometime next week, I will announce a big fight for Oscar. There are different names out there and I will be working diligently to announce in the coming days Oscar's next fight."

Bob Arum, in Atlantic City promoting Kelly Pavlik's middleweight championship defense against Gary Lockett on Saturday night, signed Mayweather out of the Olympics and promoted him for most of his career until an acrimonious split in 2006.

Still, Arum also wished him well in retirement.

"I commend Floyd Mayweather for being so forthright," Arum said. "He's had a wonderful career He's decided to retire and to announce publicly his intention. I think we should all applaud him for his candor and his forthrightness. Boxing is a very dangerous sport and it involves serious risk of injury every time a person steps into the ring. Floyd has a accumulated a large next egg through his fighting and promotional abilities the past couple of years and I, for one, see no reason why he should subject himself to additional risk when he appears to be set financially."

In retiring, Mayweather leaves behind several potential major fights, including one against the winner of next month's welterweight title bout between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito, both of whom are promoted by Arum.

"If you don't want to take the risk and you don't have to take the risk why would you want to fight a Cotto or a Margarito and subject yourself to risk when you don't have to do that?" said Arum, who has often ripped Mayweather for his reluctance to face either man.

Ellerbe said Mayweather came to his decision over the past few days and was leaving for a vacation with his kids on Friday after making the announcement.

"He just told me he was retiring and I said, 'OK.' He had already made up his mind. He did it his way, not everybody else's way," Ellerbe said. "Floyd is extremely happy with his decision."

Bitch-made. That's all I have to say. Wait, I'm gonna leave ya'll with a comment. All I hear from alot of brothers is hate towards Oscar. Oscar would've beaten ANY opponent Floyd ever fought, and he's still at 35 willing to fight all the dudes Floyd won't, what does that say about Floyd? I've lost respect for this man totally as a champ. And if he wants to retire "undefeated"(he lost that first fight to Castillo) then he should stay away from Cotto. I told ya'll cats he was gonna retire before he ever had to fight Cotto. Happy retirement Pretty Boy Fraud.

I missed the live broadcast and couldn't stay up long enough to see the KO on the replay...

Man Sechew underestimated that dude...He sure looked like he treated Latimore like it was a sparring session again...Latimore caught him and just floored Powell...

He might as well hang it up, because sad to say, I think that will be Latimore's biggest win... :(

Latimore is actually a legit prospect. He only has one loss and it's in a fight he shouldn't have taken on only 3 days notice. Glad I don't have to hear about Sechew for a while.

Yeah man, that fight surprised me. I thought he would handle Mora no problem. Vernon just ain't the same guy that almost uppercut Sugar Shane's head off anymore.

Speakin of that showtime card, boy did Quintana get blasted out quick.

Did you peep the HBO card that night?

Duddy couldn't make the proposed date for the Kelly P. fight because the gash on his eye wasn't going to be healed in time, at least that's what I heard.

I don't see the interest in that fight...B-Hop owned tito in 01...He'll do the same thing now...

Arum has to get a sweet deal for Calzaghe for him to bite...The Jones/Calzaghe fight was rumored to be on the table for Wembley Stadium later in the year I think so he has to beat that offer...

And I agree that Williams is a big fish in a small pond as far as fight making goes...Even if he didn't lose that first fight with Quintana, he'd still be looking for a fight to have...

Don't be surprised if he doesn't fight a well-known 147er by the end of hte year...

B-Hop killed Tito with his movement more than anything in that fight, if he can't move - like he couldn't against Calzaghe, he's a sitting duck. Remember I told u about Forrest/Trinidad, had that been Tito instead of Mora, Forrest would've been ko'ed late like I told u. B-Hop should hang up them gloves and leave Tito alone, why fuck up ur legacy anymore. There's a reason why Kelly P refused to fight Tito at 160(even tho he's the champ at 160:hmm:)....I still think Margarito/Williams rematch would be totally different fight though..

Margo/Williams II could be different if Tony has more success eluding the jab and getting to Paul's body more...That and being able to start on him better...Looked like he was behind big time halfway through the fight...

Mosley-Mayorga bout in the making after Mora hits contract issues
By Dan Rafael
ESPN.com

In the end, Sergio Mora's contractual obligations were too much to overcome, leading Shane Mosley to turn to Plan B: Ricardo Mayorga.

The Mora-Mosley negotiations fell apart Friday night, leading Mosley-Mayorga to gain steam over the weekend, and it was close to being set for Oct. 11 (HBO PPV) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and Mosley's wife and adviser, Jin Mosley, told ESPN.com.

"That is what it looks like we will do," Schaefer said. "I am working on it with [Mayorga promoter] Don King."

After Mora -- the first-season winner of "The Contender" -- pulled a major upset by dethroning junior middleweight titleholder Vernon Forrest on June 7, his camp moved quickly to set up his initial defense against fellow Los Angeles native Mosley, a former three-division champion.

However, the proposed fight disintegrated Friday under the weight of Mora's contractual obligations.

In addition to Mora's contract with Forrest containing rematch language -- although it was vague enough that his camp didn't believe the sequel had to be immediate -- he also owes a mandatory defense to Sergio Martinez, who had already stepped aside once to allow Mora-Forrest to take place. Now, Forrest wants his rematch and Martinez wants his shot.

It is unclear who Mora will face first, but the WBC ordered Mora and Martinez last week to begin negotiating a deal. If they can't reach an agreement, a July 25 purse bid will be ordered, the WBC said. There is a possibility that Forrest could force Mora to give up his belt and fight him in an immediate rematch.

The drama left Schaefer and the Mosleys with little choice but to look for a new opponent, and they've settled on Mayorga, who, like Mosley, is a former welterweight and junior middleweight titleholder.

Before Mosley signed to face former undisputed champ Zab Judah on May 31, a fight canceled because of an injury to Judah, there had been talk of Mosley-Mayorga. Now, the junior middleweight fight is close to reality.

"This is a fight that we tried to make instead of Judah," Jin Mosley told ESPN.com. "Things happen for a reason. Don King is a legend and we always wanted an opportunity to work with him. Mayorga is one of my favorite fighters to watch, so it is a great matchup and will be an exciting night. We are hoping that this will be Shane's next bout."

Carl King, Mayorga's manager, told ESPN.com on Sunday night: "We are talking. We're ready, willing and able. This is the fight we want. It's a fight we've been wanting for five years. Shane is one of the most decent guys in the sport. He's always been a class act. I think it's a good fight for both guys. It's a better fight for Ricardo than some of the other fights out there for him."

Mosley (44-5, 37 KOs) and Mayorga (28-6-1, 22 KOs) have several common opponents, including Oscar De La Hoya, Fernando Vargas and Forrest.

Mayorga owns two wins against Forrest and is coming off a win against Vargas last fall. But in the fight before he defeated Vargas, Mayorga was knocked out by De La Hoya. Mosley defeated De La Hoya twice, knocked out Vargas twice in 2006 and lost two decisions to Forrest in 2002.

Mosley-Mayorga, should it be signed, will give Mosley a chance to fight again at Staples Center, site of his biggest victory, a 2000 decision against De La Hoya to win the welterweight championship. It would also be Mosley's first fight since losing a close decision to welterweight beltholder Miguel Cotto on Oct. 10, 2007.

Mora's camp was disappointed that the fight with Mosley fell apart.

"I think it's silly, with all due respect to Vernon, that we would have an immediate rematch," Tournament of Contenders promoter Jeff Wald told ESPN.com. "Why do it immediately? I think a fight with Vernon is not a compelling fight right now after the way the first fight went. If Sergio beat Mosley, it would be more compelling because Vernon beat Shane twice. I would like to make it a bigger event than it would be right now."

Mora headlined at the Staples Center in an October 2005 rematch of "The Contender" first-season finale by again outpointing Peter Manfredo Jr. Wald said Mora was looking forward to another big fight in his hometown.

"It would have been a pleasure for him to fight in his hometown again," Wald said. "It would have been a great opportunity and a great fight. I love doing business with Golden Boy and Richard Schaefer. It's a huge disappointment for all of us at 'The Contender' and for Sergio. He's very disappointed on every level. But it was never our intention not to honor our rematch clause. I wanted to build the rematch into where it was meaningful in terms of business."

Damn! Thanks a lot, Zab...Instead of getting a potential clash of speedy welterweights in Mosley/Judah, Zab fucks his elbow up and STILL gets a title shot against Clottey while Mosley is pretty much forced to move up in weight to fight Mayorga in October. This shoots down a Mosley/Williams fight this year (which would have to be in Nov, making it a year since Shane would fight) but could open up Williams/Margarito II if Tony loses to Cotto...Fuck...

Super welter is far from settled, either...with Forrest exercising the rematch clause, the WBC title is locked up for up to a year...And them other cats ain't clamoring to fight each other, either...

True dat on Tito, his legs have ALWAYS been a issue, good point...I always felt Margo got started too late in that fight, I think Williams is the 154 pound future champ, but a Margarito rematch has to be done, especially if the fght with Cotto goes Margos way.

Pacquiao/Diaz should be a nice one this Saturday.

Yep that's going to be a pretty good fight...However it seems like Manny's time as a lightweight will be short lived...He could go up to welterweight from reports that I've heard...

I would like to see if he could be at 140 and face Hatton in 2009 if that's possible...

Casamayor and Juan Manuel Marquez are scheduled to fight on September 13th on HBO PPV instead of having Casamayor fight Diaz...with that, Juan Diaz has a fight with Katsidis. However, Campbell still doesn't have a fight lined up... :smh:

Ive not been handlin my business on this thread, time to get some more fights......I'll be back soon...but check this out...is it just me or are sports everywhere trying to boost the reps and profiles of these white athletes. NO WAY does Calzaghe deserve to even be on the top ten p4p list....shit is sad....

Enzo Calzaghe has told setantasports.com that his son will never fight Kelly Pavlik because the American has not earned the right to meet him, unlike Roy Jones Jnr who he believes will provide the harder bout anyhow.

Calzaghe said his son, who has just announced he is splitting from long-time promoter Frank Warren, does not care that Pavlik is seen as a dream opponent for many boxing aficionados, insisting the public at large do not know who the Youngstown fighter is. With the bout with Jones set to be Calzaghe's last, he insists there is no way a meeting with the popular WBC/WBO middlweight champion will ever happen.

"At the end of the day it's never going to happen," Calzaghe told setantasports.com. "Simply because I don't feel he deserves a shot yet at the big-time. On the back of one performance against a subdued, light fighter. There's a vast, vast difference between Gary and Joe Calzaghe. Gary would be the first to say that. It's chalk and cheese. I'm not interested in boosting the profile of a fight that aint going to happen. At the end of the day, you've got Carl Froch, you've got everybody coming up with some [fight]. We want the best available. Someone who I have always admired. Let's be honest about it. Do you think Pavlik deserves to be mentioned on that level? Pound-for-pound as the best fighter in the world?"

The Pride of Wales is expected to meet Jones in September and his trainer said they wanted to take this bout so if the worst-case scenario does happen, he will have lost his undefeated record to a bona fide legend.

"I look at it with a different perspective," Calzaghe added. "Motivation is about will. Will is about passion. Does he care about the public, Joe? No. So why scream about it. I want rewarded. Joe wants to be rewarded. Let this guy [Pavlik] win five/eight different belts. Come and talk to me face-to-face, pound-for-pound, somebody who can have a chance to jump the ship. Without a question of a doubt. Big Time. He beat Jermain Taylor so what? Joe would have wiped the floor with Jermain Taylor. A Light weight small puncher. So we should give a fight to everyone who wants one? 'It's my turn next'. Let him earn the right to go into the position. In Britain half the public don't know who Pavlik is, only the connoseurs of boxing. It's not bigger than Roy Jones-Calzaghe, its impossible."

The Newbridge gym guru went on to insist that Jones' performance against Felix Trinidad showed that he is not a 'shot fighter' and a tougher opponent than Pavlik.

"That's why we took him," Calzaghe went on. "We wanted people to believe that Joe is not after dead squid. That guy's alive and kicking. We were impressed with him last time. That's why we chose him. Without question it is the harder fight. But Joe said he wants to go out in flying colours. The best beats the best. He's got a right to that claim. He deserves it. Hypothetically, if the s*** hits the fan it happened with an all-time great."Enzo Calzaghe has told setantasports.com that his son will never fight Kelly Pavlik because the American has not earned the right to meet him, unlike Roy Jones Jnr who he believes will provide the harder bout anyhow.

See man, that's the problem, nobody wants to fight nobody. Floyd leaving the game w/o fighting the best in his division. Calzaghe getting over fighting old dudes and junk fighters. Pavlik didn't want no part of Tito at 160. I mean these guys are supposed to be the best. The only nigga in the game that deserves the #1 spot, has ducked nobody, beat the best, jumps up in weight and all that good stuff is this man.....
