Damm, he's still trying huh?:smh:
Him and Jermain Taylor just need to set up a fight, they both lost they biggest fights to white boys so at least they have something in common...:smh: Thanks for the info tho..

For a while it looked like there was going to be a Taylor-Lacy matchup. But the latest is that Taylor is lining up a fight with Carl Froch from overseas for the 168 lb. WBC belt that Calzaghe vacated.

Oddsmakers tap Holt
What are the odds that defending WBO junior welterweight champion Ricardo Torres successfully defends his title twice against top-rated contender Kendall Holt? According to David Snook, Supervisor of Race & Sports at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, not very good. Holt (23-2, 12 KOs) has been installed as a -300 favorite, while Torres (32-1, 28 KOs), who won their first fight by TKO, is a +250 dog. The first bout was mired in controversy fans were throwing full beer cans, bottles of water and soda and cups of ice in the ring, an unlikely scenario to expect at the on Saturday at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The bout will be broadcast live on a special edition of SHOWTIME's SHOBox: The New Generation, beginning at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

Report: Co-captain Yanez says he's off U.S. Olympic boxing team

Luis Yanez, the light flyweight on the U.S. Olympic boxing team, said the sport's governing body plans to remove him from the squad for a rules violation, according to a report on the Dallas Morning News' Web site.

Yanez, a 19-year-old co-captain of the U.S. team, was sent home to Texas from USA Boxing's training camp in Colorado Springs on Monday. The 106-pound fighter was among three boxers who were excused from a team training event in Argentina last week, and he apparently was late in returning to Colorado Springs from his final trip home before the Olympics.

Yanez, a two-time U.S. champion who won a gold medal at the Pan-Am Games last year, said the delay was caused by his sister's illness. Yanez also attended a send-off dinner in Dallas last Thursday.

"Just being late, that's what they're talking about," Yanez told reporters at the Dallas airport in a video posted on the Morning News' site. "They don't understand that family is really important. For Latinos, like I said, it's a Latino thing. If our family is really ill, I'm going to try to help as much as I can."

USA Boxing CEO Jim Millman and spokesperson Julie Goldsticker didn't respond to repeated requests for comment from The Associated Press on Monday night.

Yanez is allowed to appeal the decision to USA Boxing's judicial committee or request an arbitration hearing.

"I tried to work things out with them," Yanez said. "They didn't want to work things out."

USA Boxing's new yearlong residency program has caused friction between the Olympic boxers and the governing body's new leadership, with several fighters speaking out against their confinement to Colorado Springs. Javier Molina, Gary Russell Jr. and Yanez all have expressed a desire to get more work with their personal coaches instead of U.S. team coach Dan Campbell, who also has been criticized for his autocratic style.

Nine American boxers qualified for the Beijing Games. Yanez isn't among the team's biggest medal favorites while competing in a difficult weight class.

It would be a good bargaining chip for him, I'd heard a while back that Roy had offered Jermain a fight, I wonder what happened, I think he'd have a very good chance of beating Roy. I also think that he'd give Calzaghe a damn good fight. Joe Calzaghe, at least to me is a paper champ, 1 win against an unproven Lacy and 1 win against an ancient B-Hop? That warrants a number 2 p4p ranking?:smh:

Pacquiao-Soto in December?
WBC withholds recognition of Lorenzo
Promoter Fernando Beltran says his fighter Humberto Soto is lined up to face WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao in December. Although dominating Francisco Lorenzo in Saturday night's Pacquiao-Diaz co-featured bout, Soto was disqualified for hitting Lorenzo while he was on the deck after being knocked to his knees. Referee Joe Cortez' handling of the fight, the confusion after the end of the fight, and the final result have caused criticism and controversy. Soto has called Cortez a racist and claims Cortez allowed Lorenzo to hit him with illegal blows while "disqualifying a clean fighter like me."
The Soto-Lorenzo fight was for the WBC interim 130lb belt, however despite the DQ the WBC has not recognized Lorenzo as champion. The sanctioning organization plans to review a tape of the fight before rendering a final decision. The Lorenzo camp says they'll go to court if Lorenzo is not awarded the title.

His win over Kessler who was looked at as the future of the division helped his case out quite a bit.

His reign at 168 puts Calzaghe up there, but I don't like how some put him as the top 175 guy out there with one "win" in the division...Guys like Tarver, Dawson, and Johnson would take offense to that...

And props to Nate Campbell for that letter that he wrote. He kind of took my motto "make the fuckin fight" to heart...Manny has to answer this one...

So much for Casamayor being the "lineal" champ...although he is fighting Marquez, it's not for a real belt...

Lacy won't be the same after his injury in the Tsypko fight...If he gets another big fight, he may not look good in that either...

I like Kessler a lil, but he's not elite. These European guys are great against each other, but the truth shows once they come over here. like Hatton.

Speaking of Hatton, how do you think he'll do when he fights Paulie Malignaggi?

Hatton looked like an old fighter against Lazcano, I think Floyd ruined that dude, I think Paulie's movement and jab will win him a boring clinchfest. What do u think?

Given Hatton's track records against pure boxers lately, ie floyd and luis collazo(whom i feel did enough to beat ricky), it doesn't bode well for him. And then you consider he got his chin checked in his past two fights (floyd and lazcano)i don't see him taking any type of risk. Paulie will be too fast. When Ricky isn't tying him up he'll be getting peppered by quick 1-2's. Sad to say because I rode the Hatton bandwagon after his fight with Tszyu. But he's just not the same fighter he used to be.

I hate to sound like a dude who finds maad flaws in every fighter but I've been involved in boxing for so long that I can't help it. I never thought Ricky was all that because I never held Kostya in that high regard, always loved his heart and determination tho. But Kostya quit, plain and simple, and a true champ doesn't ever quit. Ricky just mauled him and wrestled him to death, due to all the latitude he got from refs in england he was able to do that.

I always said he lost to Collazo, who not being known as a puncher had Ricky rocked late in that fight. Ricky got a gift. He got another gift when Castillo took that dive against him. I mean Jose owed alot of money, not being able to make weight was killing his pockets, no way that man stands up to the best that Corrales(bigger puncher than Hatton by far) gave him and then takes a knee from a body shot until the ref counted ten. I've never seen a dive so obvious. When u get hit to the body hard enuff to cause a tko, it shows, I didn't see that in that fight. So I kinda knew it was a given that Floyd was gonna whoop his ass.

Floyd carried that ninja for 9 rounds, Floyd could have wrecked that dude at will, but being smart he took his time otherwise people would question "If he was so easy, why'd you fight him Floyd?" That's one of the reasons I stopped being a Floyd fan, but thats another topic Ricky never belonged at 147, he's too small even next to Floyd, I'm seriously glad Ricky never fought Cotto, imagine a left hook from Cotto on that glass chin, ouch.:)

Ricky I believe is washed up, and he's lucky he picked "chilling out" over fighting Oscar, shit would've looked like a Jack Russel fighting a German Shepherd. Paulie Mags by decision. I ain't no Malignaggi fan but Paulie takes the 12rd D. Plus if Paulie took Cotto's best shots, I can't see Ricky doing enuff damage to force a stoppage.

Lorenzo won't get title
WBC declares Soto-Lorenzo a no-contest
The WBC has ruled that their 130lb interim title will not go to Francisco Lorenzo, even though Lorenzo received a controversial disqualification win over Humberto Soto in a WBC title fight on Saturday night in Las Vegas. WBC President Jose Sulaiman today announced that the WBC sees the fight as a "no contest" and Lorenzo not be getting the belt despite being declared the winner. Sulaiman called the DQ "one of the greatest injustices I've seen in a long time." The official Fight Fax records, however, will reflect the result as a disqualification win for Lorenzo, barring an unlikely change made by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Brady Crytzer at the Scales
Brian Minto: 214.5 vs John Poore: 213.5
Venue: Pullman Park, Butler, PA
Promoter: Beatdown Promotions, LLC.
TV:ESPN2
Minto: "He (Poore) seems to be in shape. I've usually seen him fight around 220 pounds. I think he has some speed, he has good punching power. As a heavyweight, you don't ever want to get into a firefight too early in the fight."

Poore: "I haven't been this light since I turned pro. It's just a few pounds, but I feel a lot faster. I think I hit harder than him (Minto) and I haven't lost any power. This is a big opportunity for me. We've worked on just relaxing out there and getting him to run into something. I don't see it ending early."The Minto vs. Poore contest is the main event of this week's ESPN2 Wednesday Night Fights which starts at 10pm ET/7pm PT.

Yep...that was visible after Luis rocked him left and right...I'm surprised that they couldn't eek out a money maker between him and Gatti in 2006 before Arturo ran into Baldomir...

Paulie does have some boxing skill, which gives him an advantage against Ricky. If Hatton performed as bad as some thought he did in his last fight, then I'd give Paulie a shot to beat him...Hope that it won't be the borefest that you guys have warned about, though....

I hope not either tp, but I put up the link for Hatton's last fight, if u haven't seen it, check it, he looked old, it's really the best way to describe him, like some guys have lackluster performances, but this wasn't lackluster, he just really looked worn out, like Morales after the first Pac fight. I agree also about Paulie, he can box, I think if he can keep Hatton off him with that jab, he'll be able to circle him and not take the kind of punches he did from Cotto since Ricky doesn't have Miguel's skill at getting to pure boxers, then again they are fighting in England.... Shit, Paulie might just have to KO that dude to win. I'm about to check that Holt/Torres fight, I'm sure it's as bad as u describe ready2rumble, boxing really needs a good cleaning up. I'm happy to hear that homie didn't get awarded that belt after that "DQ". Cortez has REALLY fallen off as a ref ever since that Floyd/Ricky fight. Anybody heard anymore news on that Tito/Oscar proposed rematch?

Rumor is that even though Chris Arreola has been called out by both Jason Estrada and Monte Barrett, Arreola's next fight could possibly be against former title challenger David Tua.

Nady to ref Torres-Holt 2

Veteran referee Jay Nady will be the third man in the ring when WBO junior welterweight champion Ricardo Torres (32-1, 28 KOs) defends against Kendall Holt (23-2, 12 KOs) in a much anticipated rematch on Saturday night at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The selection of the referee for this bout garners special attention after Holt laid heavy blame on referee Gino Rodriguez for his loss to Torres in their first fight last September in Barranquilla, Colombia. Scoring the bout will be Duane Ford, Robert Hoyle and Bert Clements, all well-known judges from Nevada.

Malignaggi won't step aside

IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi is 'just waiting for the final word' before confirming his hotly anticipated fight against IBO light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton. In an interview with Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour, Malignaggi was quick to dismiss rumours that he had been offered 'step-a-side' money to make way for Manny Pacquiao. The self styled 'Magic Man' made it clear that Hatton was firmly in his sights. "I'm going to fight Ricky in the fall. It's an opportunity I've been waiting for. I think if I took step-a-side money I'd basically be selling out and not giving myself the opportunity I've always craved." Malignaggi added that he learned from his lackluster performance against Lovemore N'dou earlier in the year. "I was trying too hard to impress everybody out there. I think I should have concentrated on impressing everyone with my performance," he said. "But I managed to pull out the win and I look ahead to the future. Believe me; I'll redeem myself with my performance in the fall [against Hatton]."

Valuev-Ruiz in the works

Negotiations have started between representatives of the WBA's top two rated heavyweight contenders, ex-WBA champion Nikolai "The Russian Giant" Valuev and former two-time WBA titleholder John "The Quietman" Ruiz, respectively, to fight for the WBA "regular" heavyweight championship belt. The Valuev-Ruiz will be obliged to fight "champion in recess" Ruslan Chagaev by June 26, 2009. "We’re happy to get an opportunity to fight for the WBA title again," Ruiz said from Argentina. The fight would be a rematch of their closely contested December 2005 bout won by Valuev via majority decision.

Middleweight Joval to face McGirt in Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP)—Middleweight contender Raymond Joval is scheduled to face prospect and champion’s son James “Buddy” McGirt Jr. in the 10-round main event July 25 in Saratoga Springs.

The eight-fight card at the 1,500-seat City Center coincides with the start of the thoroughbred racing season at Saratoga Race Course. The feature bout between Joval (37-4, 16 KOs) and McGirt (18-1, 9 KOs) will be televised by ESPN2, promoter Lisa Elovich said.

Joval, 39, from the Netherlands, has won his last four fights and has been training in the Catskills, Elovich said. He has held the International Boxing Organization middleweight title.

McGirt, 25, from Vero Beach, Fla., was stopped in his last fight April 11 by Carlos DeLeon Jr. in seven rounds. His father, trainer James “Buddy” McGirt, was world welterweight champion in the early 1990s.

In the local feature, Saratoga Springs heavyweight Gary Wilcox (21-3, 7 KOs) will fight unbeaten Nagy Aguilera (8-0, 6 KOs) from Newburgh in the Hudson Valley.

Lightweight Mike Faragon (3-0) from suburban Albany will face Francisco Palacios (3-4-4, 1 KO) of Stamford, Conn., and Schenectady light welterweight Brian Miller (2-0-2) is scheduled to fight Brian Abraham in his debut.

“We’ve got an influx now of guys from the local gyms who have just recently turned pro,” said Elovich. “We’ve got a big pool of boxers now in upstate New York.”

Holt-Torres Presser

Ten months after a wildly controversial ending to their first fight, Ricardo Torres will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight title against No. 1 contender Kendall Holt in a rematch on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation on Saturday, July 5, 2008, live on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast). Torres (32-1, 28 KOs), who will defend his WBO crown for a third time, rallied to score a hotly debated 11th-round TKO over Holt (23-2, 12 KOs) on Sept. 1, 2007, in the champion's hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia. "I'm very prepared and I am here to win this fight and defend this title," said Torres. "I know Holt is tough, but there is not really anything that he can do that he didn't do before....I expect that Holt will run like he did last time. If he stops and exchanges, it will be to my advantage, and it will be an easier fight." Holt stated, "If I come up short, I know in my heart that I did the best that I could. On Saturday night, I am going to prevail. All the hard work I put in is going to pay off!"

The tko was bullshit, but I can't say I'm a fan of Holt's style of fighting, I mean this dude was straight running, not boxing, running, and holding his ass off, he's just not my cup of tea, but at least here in the states we hopefully won't have a repeat of that bullshit tko call. But then I say, if you're not throwing any punches and you keep holding the guy any time he gets near you(i mean at one point he was holding Torres' legs), it's obvious you don't wanna fight. I can't respect the tko call but I won't defend the way Holt fought either, it seems like alotta these fast dudes just rely on thier speed but when the pressure gets too tough they wanna run the fuck out of the ring. I know boxing is about hitting and not getting hit, but if u really wanna be real it's all about making money, that's what the training and hard work is for,but if u have a style like Holt's it's either, fight guys who generate money(like May got smart and did) or make no money(a la Zahir Raheem).

Yeah, right on the button, Smoke Gainer had great skills and all, just not the type of fighter I enjoy watching. I prefer a Meldrick Taylor type of dude or a Sugar Shane. I love to watch beautiful skills, but the boxer has to be equally great on offense like James Toney or Floyd Mayweather Jr. or a Sweet Pea Whitaker. But I do believe Holt will win this fight, and however he has to do it, who am I to knock him. It's just that fighters like that don't captivate crowds, tho they are undeniably skilled.
