I've been meaning to see this for weeks. Timing was off, because they didn't have it in many theaters after the first week. It was in more theaters this weekend. Godzilla has been adding screens also.

It's an entertaining slasher movie. It needed more comedy though IMO. That would have taken it to another level. I guess it was gory, but not to me. It had some cool kills that were graphic. It also throws out multiple possible killers.

Honestly, the first 10 minutes was the best part of the movie to me. If it would have kept that pace with the comedy it would have been next level.

Nothing to rush to see in the theaters, but an entertaining watch at home.

Watched this last night.

Pretty decent post-apocalyptic flick based around the current political climate in this country.

The film has a “M. Night Shylaman” feel to it. And it uses interesting camera angles thru-out.

The cat that did “Mr. Robot” directed it. I looked into it and found out The Obama’s were behind getting this film done as part of their contract with Netflix. It’s going to be interesting to see what future content they plan on putting out.

I loved the scene with the Tesla’s and how they played out. I never could figure out what was with the Deer running around.

Synopsis

A family vacation on Long Island is interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a blackout. As the threat grows, both families must decide how best to survive the potential crisis, all while grappling with their own place in this collapsing world.

I just watched this one this afternoon while at home on tubi.

This is a classic film, the last time I saw it was back in the 80s when I was in the ARMY.

If you are a veteran, you will enjoy it especially if you were in the NAVY. If you are not a veteran, you will still enjoy it.

The film has a number of well known female co-stars at the start of their career before anybody knew who they were.

Jack Nicholson stars and like everything he is in, he steals the film with his performance and classic one-liners.

Synopsis

When sailor Larry Meadows (Randy Quaid) is sentenced to eight years in a New Hampshire prison, Navy lifers Billy Buddusky (Jack Nicholson) and Mule Mulhall (Otis Young) are assigned to escort him there from Virginia. Along the way, they warm up to their prisoner, indulging him in small ways such as making excursions to a brothel, and to his mother's house. As they get closer to their destination, their fondness for Larry makes it harder for them to execute their orders.

Watched this one last night.

It’s basically a Black version of the successful 1967 “Bonnie & Clyde”.

It touches on racism and had a surprising scene of a lynching that caught me off guard.

The film takes place during the time period when the country was slowly moving away from the horse to the automobile. It’s a sub-plot to the film and plays off interesting being we are in an era moving away from internal combustion engine to electric. Statements made in the film are being repeated today on this transition.

Max Julien who stars, periodically slips into his “The Mack” character which is humorous. That film came out a year earlier.

It’s a slow burn film with not too much action. tubi has a clean remastered version.

Synopsis

Set in New Mexico during the years 1912-1915, a fictional black \Bonnie and Clyde\-type race through the Southwest in their ancient jalopies, shooting lawmen and sharing the riches with poor blacks, whites, and Indians alike. One avenging.

This is a WW2 Black war flick I watched this afternoon on tubi.

It’s somewhat like “The Dirty Dozen” in its premise. The film mainly tries to show recognition to WW2 Black soldiers but falls short.

It deals with racism mainly from the White Captains interacting with the Black GI’s.

The film has an all-star Black cast from the era.

It’s a short film that was made for network TV which they used to do frequently before cable TV came around. It’s produced/written by legendary producer Aaron Spelling.

The film has been retitled “The Black Brigade”. tubi has a un-remastered copy so it’s dark and grainy.

Synopsis

A group of soldiers with no combat experience hold a World War II dam for their bigoted captain (Stephen Boyd).

No One Will Save You

5/10

I watched this one this afternoon on Hulu.

It’s an interesting alien invasion film that doesn’t play out like you will expect.

SHTF at the 11:00 minute mark and the film holds a steady pace of suspense/action until the last scene.

Character development is mainly done in the first 10 minutes and 2nd to last scene. The film has an odd, unexpected ending, but if you pay attention to the character from what has been shown, you will fully understand how it ends.

For the Foot Fiends, plenty of good shots of the White chicks feet at the start of SHTF phase.

For the Militants, if you enjoy seeing a White chick running around to save herself, you will enjoy this flick.

For the InCells, the main character does some things that you will find visually disturbing.

VFX/SFX showing the aliens looks well done along with how they are shown.

Synopsis

Brynn finds solace within the walls of the home where she grew up until she's awakened one night by strange noises from unearthly intruders.

I REALLY enjoyed this

Been meaning to check this one out.

I've enjoyed Kaitlyn Dever's work previously. Most recently in Booksmart. She was fun to watch alongside Jonah Hill's sister. And looking at her Wikipedia ... I need to rewatch The Spectacular Now at some point (one of my fave movies from the early-2010s). I don't recall which role she played in it ... good movie all the same if you like Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller's work.

My mom recommends this one. I saved it for her after hearing it being recommended by a sports media member I listen to. Mom said after it was done she talked about it for quite awhile with the friend she watched it with ... both thought it was really good.

Godzilla Minus One

Godzilla Greatness

PRAISE: Director and writer Takashi Yamazaki grounds his story and take on the legendary monster with a human story that is filled with regret, love, and trauma.
Great raw emotion and acting from Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe. Their bond is as believable as is Kamikis display of guilt as Koichi after turning his back at a critical moment in the closing days of World War II . Showing the effects of war visually and the trauma that sets in after it was very effective in the movie. The SFX and action sequences are on point as certain sequences have a dizzying effect and are so involving I found myself trying to wave characters away from danger. Seeing Godzilla massively take down anything in his path was thrilling to watch and particularly effective when there are close ups of the destruction he is causing. I actually felt something for the characters instead of just chalking them up as fodder for Godzilla.

PROBLEMS: A couple of moments are predictable and I couldn't get on board with how a couple of situations played out.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8½

FinestKind

Fine to Fail

PRAISE : After figuring out who the characters were and related to I got into the groove of this movie about Two brothers from opposite sides of the tracks are reunited as adults. Desperate circumstances force them into a deal with an organized crime syndicate in Boston, and a young women gets caught in the middle.
There were a couple of characters I immediately started rooting for and they were portrayed by Toby Wallace as Charlie and Jenna Ortega as Mabel.
There was the usual family angst about living up to one's potential, dissapointing family members and the father and son turmoil which I was ok with. Ben Foster does well as Charlie's brother Tom. It's always great to have the presence of Tommy Lee Jones around and it was nice to see Lolita Davidovich and Tim Daly in a project again. The life of a deep sea fisherman is nicely displayed from the longing for the sea to how dangerous it can be.I was glad I was spared from something crazy I thought was really going to happen.

PROBLEMS: The movie becomes very clichéd almost immediately as the crime part of the film begins. The grit in the film starts to lose its edge. Then things start to become far to convenient and easy for certain characters. I actually started laughing at one character who was a complete pushover.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 6

This is crime/thriller I watched last night.

This is the film that officially resurrected actor Morgan Freeman’s acting career after he did his run as Easy Reader on “The Electric Company”. He was basically typecast in that role. After this film Morgan was pumping out films like a PEZ dispenser.

I believe this is the first Hollywood production showing a Pimp the way they really are. Prior Hollywood depictions normally portrayed them as clowns. Morgan’s performance thru-out this film in every scene he does basically steals the film. You can easily tell this is the film that set the standard on how Pimps are portrayed and you can easily see actors playing Pimps, this is the film they copied.

The plot is basic. It’s hard watching Christopher Reece cuz he is basically doing his “Clark Kent” from Superman. Plenty of times you will watch it waiting for him to change or use his powers in the film. The movie was filmed on location in Manhattan.

Actress Kathy Baker co-stars as a prostitute, she isn’t well known but you will recognize her from all the supporting roles in memorable films. She is in her prime and looks Smashable in the outfits they have her in. The Thirsty will be happy. HaHa!!!:16:

This is definitely a must see film and is a cult classic.

Synopsis

Jonathan Fisher (Christopher Reeve) is a reporter struggling to keep his job at a magazine. Assigned to write a real-life prostitution exposé, he fails to gain information from his subjects and decides to make up his own story about a pimp. The piece revives his career, but his fictional character turns out to be strangely similar to Fast Black (Morgan Freeman), an actual pimp, who is outraged and demands that Jonathan spill his sources. When the police get involved, matters get even uglier.
