Black Entrepreneurship has always been limited.

They shutdown a lot of black vendors decades ago and literally made it almost impossible to get a vendors license... Outside of vets, they are literally only hitting up about 100 people whose on the waiting list...the waiting list is still from people who applied back in 94..smh...think about that...if you apply now your name might not get called until 2080.... Secrets people don't kno... Like I said they don't want nigs to make money...they took away the entrepreneur spirit when they shutdown the vendors

Nah..way back in the days entrepreneurship was done way more often ...it was actually a survival technique... Even jews and old European immigrants would explain the history of ny was way diff 70-100 yrs ago.. They even have documentaries on it... Use to be thousands of street vendors juss located downtown... Selling food and goods has always been a big thing around the world... If you know about running numbers, bootlegging, illegal night clubs, odd jobs, etc you know a lot of those things were survival hustles and creation of underground economy... Entrepreneurship and creating diff forms of income was alive and well decades ago... Go ask your grandparents

You both have great points.
I could be wrong, but I took TENT's quote to mean: Black entrepreneurship was/is co-opted (Let's be real....appropriated) in a way that never lets us fully capitalize on things.
Sure, we eat. Get ahead for a moment.
But as soon as they "discover" what we're doing.......here they come with their version of it for mass (read white) consumption of it. Therefore cutting into our earning capital.

Yall are saying nearly the same thing IMO.

if he meant limited by it being restricted by outsiders than yes he is right..if he meant limited by us not having historically more representation in our community than I can't agree... Maybe I read his comment wrong as if he said only a limited amount of individuals were pushing entrepreneurship..that's what I thought he was saying..if I was wrong in comprehending incorrectly I will say my fault

I don't know. That's just how I took it.
Hope I'm not wrong. LOL

Man, the biggest hustle America ever played on its people is convincing them they need a job.

get any politician on a podium and what do they talk about? Job creation, job growth, higher minimum wage, cheaper education to get a higher salary

Just once I'd like to hear one of these bastards say "Vote for me and I'll help you get your own hot dog stand"

capitalistic society...big bizz needed workers to generate their money... Entrepreneurship means less people to do their work and also means more competition... So big bizz did everything to try to erase that state of mind... They also push laws to erase the competition... NYC is a perfect example of showing how big bizz tries to eliminate the competition of entrepreneurship...unfortunately this thing called internet has caused a new entrepreneurship uprising which big bizz hates

That part makes sense. It's the same in Canada and any other capitalist country. The thing is that the bigger a company gets the more uniform and bland its products become. That opens the door for a lot of niche products and services, especially when you're in a dense and diverse population. What I don't understand is why more people don't take advantage of these niches when they are incredibly easy to find.

When I ask people why they don't start a business I always get the same few answers. "A job is more secure", "I need steady income" "I don't want to beg for a loan", "I need benefits", "It's too expensive". SMH

Every time I hear it I think "Isn't this supposed to be the land of opportunity? A dollar and a dream? The birthplace of free enterprise? Isn't starting a business supposed to be part of your cultural DNA?"

It's baffling.

not baffling big bizz has spend tons of money every yr to push society into a worker society... Look at the school system... Why do kids wake up early in the morning to go to school? Cause the schedule is similar to the work schedule aka 9-5.. 13 yrs of that train the body to wake up at a certain time so that you can get use to so that you can eventually become a worker in the 9-5 schedule... School uniforms is really molding your kid to get used to worker dress codes... Breakfast, lunch schedules getting you used to eating at certain times under direct orders. All this s hit is by designed... Reason why kids gotta do 12 yrs of school so you can be old enough to do jobs when they get out.. Like driving and military... Capitalistic society literally breeding workers... Than they throw out lies in order to get you scared of discourage you from thinking of starting your own bizzness by making it seem people with money can start it or that it's impossible to do... All this Shi t by design

I think it's because the corporate route is much easier for most ppl than the independent route

Except that there are plenty of entrepreneurs that rely on a rigid daily schedule to run their business. In my line of work being fully prepared and on time is absolutely crucial. These are good skills that have no matter who you work for.

And uniforms? lot of entrepreneurs wear suits because that's the presentation they need to make in order to run shit correctly. Steve Jobs even had 30 identical black turtlenecks so that he could give off a consistent image.

beyond that, you would think that as a nation our leaders would want to encourage their people to spend their days doing actual work instead of just filling time and punching a clock.

I think it's because the corporate route is much easier for most ppl than the independent route

I'm not so sure. I mean worst case scenario if you start a business and fail you can declare bankruptcy and be debt-free within 7 years. If you get a college degree and fail in the corporate world that they could follow you around for life.
