I actually thought you meant the guy who got the best of Mike beginning with his “final” all-star game in the Bulls era and was doing what Ant is doing in a championship run at 22 during peak “next MJ” dialogue.
But I realized that wasn’t the case with the reference to “the conversation”… All that gets skipped over to talk about someone who played more like Magic…

Bron passed Jordan about 6 years ago. He doesn't even mention him anymore and has a bigger basketball legacy and a lot more wealth off the court. Ant will be the last NBA player who feels he needs Michael Jordan's validation. That ship has sailed and with Inside The NBA bowing out, Michael Jordan will rarely be mentioned going forward. He's not needed anymore now that Bron is the consensus GOAT.
Anthony Edwards being "the closest thing to MJ" was a marketing scheme to get Black people to watch the playoffs this year. Anthony Edwards lost in the playoffs last year to LeBron James, the media wouldn't seriously annoint a player as the next Jordan who has. They used his buzz in the earlier rounds to try to draw in old viewers still on MJs nuts and Black folks. Soon as he loses the comparison goes away.
