IMO, as long as the team has any type of buzz, the owner will continue being cheap.
Certain ownership groups just sucker their loyal fans for cash and attention every year.
Heat are always depicted as a free agent destination during the season with potential stars depicted in Heat jerseys on memes, but Mick don't got money like some of these other newer owners so it rarely happens.
Lakers do the same shit. They know they turned their fanbase into Kobe zealots, so they just eat off that and do nothing. Bron coming was a blessing but they only use it to sell jerseys and get nationally televised games. They don't want his Laker legacy getting too big and overshadowing Kobe's so they purposely aren't trying to win right now. They hired JJ and brought in his son so they can pretend he's holding them hostage and they can't do anything because they are tryna appease a heavy handed dark skinned Black American man. 3/4 of the fanbase already never liked him and "misses Kobe", so they knew the optics would allow them to sell that. The Puss family aren't billionaires and are just tryna make money. There's a reason Shady Sinister always capes for Slob and Weenie Puss More.
