Khan is a fucking moron. He sat around waiting for a big fight with Floyd and Pacquiao instead of beating Brook and earnng a title which would have MADE him a top contender. The fight with Brook would have been big for the UK and proved he could draw.

How does barely beating Algieri and Devon Alexander get him a big fight?
you cant really call him a moron

he wanted a big pay day and he got it

losing to brook wouldve never given him the huge cinco de mayo fight with canelo

he doesnt care about winning he just wants to get paid

A good ass card too. Each fight was competitive multiple knockouts. And when you want to do a PPV you got recognizable names

Maidana is fat and Guerrero is a live fighter but can't beat a top welterweight. I wanted him to fight Broner or Khan because that would be a good test for them

Agreed. I didnt even know who Brook was.

I think Broner fights tomato cans the rest of his career. He's washed. They said how hard he was working in camp blah blah and he loses his belt on the scale. Clown shit

thats not true

cotto and porter have been trying to fight him and he rather fight scrubs

Cotto don't know what he wants to do, dude aint fighting until the fall and he aint fighting at 147 anymore. He already beat Porter and Porter has a fight scheduled with Thurman,

After he beat porter he damn near lost his leg in an attack and then beat 2 mandatories and got hurt again, then beat another mandatory.

Khan ran from him, Thurman aint said his name, Garcia been on damn near vacation since he beat mattsyye at 140, and Spence is still on the way up, now if Brook runs from his mandatory spence for a bum then he bitching out.

I see your point, but sitting around and taking the fights that he took didn't help his cause.

Also Khan is on HBO right now saying that he turned down the Brook fight which was more money than the Canelo fight.

I aint forgiving Al yet for all the bullshit fights he put on in 2014, most of the PBC cards have been mismatches when dude got the biggest stable of boxers. They say the money is drying up though, that's why he letting Khan and Wade fight on HBO.

If he keeps improving and making good fights then PBC can last.

He needs to thank GOD for Al Haymon because it gets him televised fights against B and C level fighters. He's done on PPVs for awhile, maybe even for good.

They got to be careful with Garcia last couple fights he been exposed. Speaking of 140 that Crawford Pistol fight should be good. If Crawford wins I would luv to see him move up to Welterweight

By Dan Ambrose: 35-year-old Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) plans on fighting one June 18 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Juan Manuel Marquez, 42, was the guy that was in the lead position to get that fight, but he’s not going to be available for that date because he wants to take a tune-up fight in the summer. Marquez has been out of action for two years due to a knee problem.

That leaves Diego Chaves and Ruslan Provodnikov as two of the possibilities for Cotto. Those are not good options for obvious reasons. Provodnikov is a light welterweight, who has lost two out of his last four fights. He was beaten especially bad by Lucas Matthysse last year in April, and it was really hard to watch that fight.

Chaves, 29, is no better. He hasn’t won a fight since 2014, and his record in his last four fights is 1-2-1. It’s going to look like Cotto is really scraping the bottom of the barrel if he chooses Chaves, but then again, Cotto has taken a number of soft jobs in recent years. He fought Daniel Geale last year in June 2015 after he was knocked out in three rounds by WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in 2014. Cotto also fought Delvin Rodriguez in 2013 in a 3rd round stoppage win.

Rodriguez was little more than an ESPN level Friday Night Fight type of fighter in my view, and not a major player. It was a mismatch and terrible one at that. Given that Cotto is coming off of a 12 round decision loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last November, I wouldn’t be surprised if this loss is used for justification for Cotto to take a confidence booster type of fight. In other words, Cotto could be taking a soft job as a showcase fight in order to build his confidence up.

I don’t know why Cotto would need to waste time on confidence booster type of opposition, because he did alright against Canelo and didn’t get wiped out by him. Cotto was just out-sized by the light heavyweight sized Canelo. It would have been a winnable fight for Cotto if he weighed in the 170s and wasn’t giving away so much weight to Canelo in that fight.

If Cotto does fight Chaves or Provodnikov, then he’s going to need to make a big decision whether to stage the fight on regular HBO or pay per view. If he insists on televising it on PPV, then he needs to be ready for very low PPV numbers, because I don’t think the boxing world is ready to pay to see Cotto beat up on smaller mediocre fighters like Provodnikov or Chaves.

bnme

If Cotto is willing to fight on regular HBO, then fighting struggling fighters like Chaves or Provodnikov are decent options. I still don’t think those would be worthy opponents for headliner type fights, but they would be decent opponents if Cotto were to be fighting in a co-feature bout. But if he’s going to fight Chaves or Provodnikov on PPV, then this is going to be really interesting to see who will be willing to pay to see that. I think it’s like the tired old fight that Top Rank is peddling for April 9 between Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley. Who is going to pay for that? It’s just a wacky decision to have that fight on PPV after all this time.

http://www.boxingnews24.com/2016/02/cottos-options-june-18-poor/

http://boxingjunkie.usatoday.com/20...guel-cotto-on-june-18-in-brooklyn-on-hbo-ppv/

Both men are coming off a loss to Canelo Alvarez. Now, they could turn to face each other.

James Kirkland was recently offered a fight with Miguel Cotto, the fighter’s manager, Michael Miller, confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. Cotto is set to fight on June 18 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on HBO Pay-Per-View and has been searching for an opponent.

There originally were talks for a catchweight bout against Ruslan Provodnikov and there were whispers Juan Manuel Marquez was in the mix. But “The Siberian Rocky” could be headed to a fight with Terence Crawford and JMM, who last fought almost two years ago, said he would want a tune-up bout. Enter Kirkland.

“I am working with Eric Gomez from Golden Boy on an offer for James Kirkland to fight Miguel Cotto on June 18 at the Barclays Center,” Miller said in a text message. “I feel James has a real chance to beat the legendary future Hall of Fame fighter. If the fight, is made it promises to be a barn burner and potential fight of the year.”

And that’s why Kirkland is an intriguing choice — he always delivers action. His three-round bout with Canelo in May was exhilarating for as long as it lasted. What makes Kirkland (32-2, 28 KOs) so much fun to watch is that he’s equally as dangerous with his big punch as his chin is vulnerable.

He’s a topsy-turvy fight, and you never know if he’s going to flip the odds. Against Cotto, he would be an underdog for sure, especially with how inactive Kirkland has been. He’s promoted by 50 Cent, but Golden Boy has options on him stemming from the Canelo bout.

The 31-year-old native of Austin, Texas, was in talks to face Gabriel Rosado in December, but the fight fell apart after Kirkland demanded more money, something he’s done before.

His career-best victory was a thrilling stoppage of Alfredo Angulo in 2011 in which both fighters hit the deck in Round 1. Since then, Kirkland has fought just three times.

Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) hasn’t been much busier, but he did enjoy a career resurgence. After a 2012 defeat to Austin Trout, the Puerto Rican was written off by media and fans as a finished fighter. But a union with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach changed everything, and Cotto went on to capture the middleweight championship with a sterling performance against a hobbled Sergio Martinez.

Cotto, 35, defended the title successfully with a knockout of Daniel Geale in June, but was then upended by Canelo during their November super fight which generated 900,000 PPV buys.

Cotto-Kirkland is an interesting matchup, but it’s a hard sell on pay-per-view with both men coming off a loss. Cotto’s contract with Roc Nation Sports calls for big guaranteed purses, though, and PPV is still the best model to maximize revenue.

3 different articles for cotto with a million names for june 18:lol:

http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/post/_/id/15415/cottos-june-18-ring-return-in-planning-stages

Miguel Cotto, who lost the middleweight title by decision to Canelo Alvarez in their much-anticipated fight on Nov. 21, is planning his ring return.

Cotto’s return is penciled in for June 18 at the Barclays Center in New York. Roc Nation Sports, Cotto’s promoter, has the date on hold with the New York State Athletic Commission as well as the Barclays Center, where Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs), the 35-year-old Puerto Rican great, who is winding down his career, fought for first time last June and knocked out Daniel Geale to set up the Alvarez fight.

Initially, Roc Nation was planning for Cotto’s comeback to take place at Madison Square Garden, where he has such a rich history. But MSG is already booked that night. The Cure is scheduled for a concert, making the arena unavailable to host the first fighter in Puerto Rican history to win world titles in four weight classes.

There had been some talk that Cotto would fight Mexican great Juan Manuel Marquez, the former four-division titleholder, at a catch weight of around 150 pounds, but Marquez has not fought for two years and is coming off a knee injury. He wants a summer tune-up fight before going into anything that big.

So two other names have emerged as possible opponents for Cotto to fight (at a weight of probably about 150): former junior welterweight titlist Ruslan Provodnikov, the Russian brawler who has been fighting as a welterweight, and aggressive Argentine Diego Chaves.

Provodnikov (25-4, 18 KOs) is the higher-profile fighter and the more exciting one. He lost a close decision to Timothy Bradley Jr. in a welterweight title bout that was the 2013 fight of the year. Last April, he lost a majority decision to Lucas Matthysse at junior welterweight in leading 2015 fight of the year contender. However, a Cotto-Provodnikov fight appears unlikely because Roc Nation Sports is being sued by Provodnikov promoter Artie Pelullo of Banner Promotions, which claims Roc Nation Sports interfered with his contract with former junior middleweight titleholder Demetrius Andrade. Roc Nation Sports has no plans to do business with Pelullo unless the suit is dropped.

Chaves (23-2-1, 19 KOs) has faced notable opponents but that fight is a hard sell. He did not fight at all in 2015 and is 1-2-1 in his last four fights with a knockout loss to Keith Thurman, a disqualification loss to Brandon Rios, a win over a journeyman opponent in Argentina and a highly controversial draw against Bradley in his last fight in December 2014. Virtually everyone thought Bradley was the clear winner.

The television outlet for Cotto’s next fight is also up in the air. HBO has an option on his next fight but I’m told it is not overly interested in the face of budget issues. It would like to push Cotto’s next fight to pay-per-view, which does not eat up its budget, if it is against a quality opponent. Marquez would have made for a legitimate pay-per-view fight. Provodnikov and Chaves, however, would probably be pay-per-view disasters.

Thank goodness for DVR. But Errol Spence Jr. is definitely one of my favorite boxers, now. Whether it is pronounced Errol or Earl, every dude I've ever met with that name is a heavy-handed guy you don't want to get hit by.

Kelly Brook? Easy bet.

I hear you, fam'. Great performance from Errol.

Had the DVR running in overdrive to catch all the combat sports ... MMA = UFC / RFA / Bellator, and then boxing too. Skimmed them over commercial-free when I got in.

Really liked Spence's performance. He would beat Garcia and Porter. Would love to see him against Thurman and forgot other boxers name. Kell Brook is his name.

I'm surprised Terrence Crawford isn't on top ten pound for pound lists.

Posted by BoxingSocialist on April 13, 2016 at 2:34pm
LAS VEGAS (April 13, 2016) – The 154-pound division will take center stage on Saturday, May 21 in a stacked triple-header featuring three world title fights in the same division. Five of the division’s top-six fighters* will square off live on SHOWTIME from The Chelsea, a one-of-a-kind 40,000-square-foot venue, inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

In the main event, Cuban sensation Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara will defend his WBA Super Welterweight World Championship against U.S. Olympian and top contender, Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan, in a rematch of their 2012 bout that ended in a technical draw.

Brothers Jermall and Jermell Charlo will look to make history in co-featured bouts as the first twins to hold world titles in the same division. Unbeaten IBF Super Welterweight World Champion Jermall faces his toughest test to date when he makes the second defense of his belt against former world champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout. Jermell will take on exciting contender John Jackson in a bout for the vacant WBC Super Welterweight World Championship.

Promoted by Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions, venue pre-sale tickets will go on-sale Thursday, April 14 at 10 a.m. PT. Tickets for the general public will go on-sale Friday, April 15 at 10 a.m. PT. Doors to The Chelsea will open at 3 p.m. PT with SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING action beginning at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT. The versatile yet intimate space inside The Chelsea will create an unparalleled experience for viewers and boxing fans alike.

“I’m looking forward and I’m excited to be making my 2016 debut in the boxing capitol of Las Vegas come May 21,” said Lara. “I can’t wait to get in the ring as I have unfinished business to take care of with Vanes. I’m the champion and will remain the champion. I will leave no doubt who the better fighter is and will show the world that I’m the best fighter in the 154-pound division. I am dedicating this fight to a great man and boxing idol Gilberto Mendoza Sr. May he rest in peace and enjoy this display of master boxing from heaven, that I will put on for him when I step in the ring on fight night.”

“Erislandy Lara and I have unfinished business from our first fight,” said Martirosyan. “I had him beat that night and I’ll beat him on May 21. My time is now and I know I will be the new champion of the world on May 21.”

The 25-year-old Charlos' aim to make history against stiff opposition from a former champion in Trout, and the Olympian from the Virgin Islands in Jackson.

“This will be a history-making, record-breaking night for the Charlo twins,” said Jermall Charlo. “It means everything to us to be able to fight in two championship fights on the same card. This is everything we’ve ever dreamed of. This is going to be a great night of boxing and I’m preparing myself for war. Austin Trout is a seasoned vet. He’s fought world champions and has beaten future Hall of Famer Miguel Cotto. This is one of my biggest fights to date, but I’m preparing the same way I always do. I’m going to be on my ‘A’ game. I’m ready to make history.”

“I’m extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to fight for the world title on May 21,” said Trout. “It’s a twice-in-a-lifetime chance for a second world title and I’m going to take full advantage of it. I’m working hard and have already been in training camp in D.C. and ready to take full advantage of the moment. I’ve sat at the champions’ table before and am ready to go back again and eat from it again. Destiny brought me here not to lose, but to win. I’m going to show up and show out and this world title.”

"This is a huge fight for me," said Jermell Charlo. "It's my first opportunity to fight for a title and my brother is on the same card defending his belt. There has never been identical twin brothers that are both world champions in the same weight class. We're going to go out there and make history, and send a message to the whole division. I'm excited to get in the ring and I know John Jackson is too. This is an important time in my career and I will be well prepared. Let the best man win."

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity to become a world champion,” said Jackson. “I’ve been training very hard for the last two months for this fight and come May 21 I will be victorious over Jermell Charlo and realize my lifelong dream of becoming a world champion, like my dad, the great Julian Jackson.”

“This is yet another example of SHOWTIME Sports’ commitment to delivering the best lineup in boxing,” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President & General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. “We’re featuring three important championship fights in one of boxing’s most intriguing young divisions – a triple-header that will bring our 2016 tally of world title bouts to 14 – all free to SHOWTIME subscribers. We’re excited to offer this rare opportunity to see the top fighters in a division all on the same telecast.”

"Mayweather Promotions is thrilled to bring this fantastic triple-header of super welterweight world champions to fight fans," said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. "The best of the 154-pound division will be on display on May 21 and we expect an action-packed night of drama."

"We're very excited to work with SHOWTIME on this action-packed triple-header,” said Tom Brown of TGB Promotions. “Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan have a huge score to settle from their 2012 bout, and Jermall and Jermell Charlo are in high-stakes matchups against Austin Trout and John Jackson, respectively, in what promises to be a highly entertaining evening of boxing."

The 32-year-old Lara is a slick boxer with the ability to deliver punishment while taking very little of it in return. Lara has notched victories over Alfredo Angulo, Austin Trout, Ishe Smith and Freddy Hernandez. As an amateur, Lara won numerous titles including a national championship at welterweight, and also participated in the 2007 Pan-Am games. The fighter originally from Guantanamo, Cuba dominated Delvin Rodriguez in June of last year and followed that up with a third-round stoppage of former champion Jan Zaveck.

Born in Armenia, but fighting out of Glendale, Calif., Martirosyan represented the U.S. at the 2004 Olympics. As a professional, he won his first 32 fights before fighting Lara to a draw in 2012. The 29-year-old suffered a narrow defeat by split decision in his first world title shot against Demetrius Andrade, but has rebounded with solid victories over Mario Lozano, Willie Nelson and most recently Ishe Smith.

A newly crowned champion at 25-years-old, Charlograbbed his title with a dominant third-round stoppage of Cornelius Bundrage in September 2015. Residing in Houston, Charlo built up his resume in 2014 with dominant triumphs over Hector Munoz, Norberto Gonzale, Lenny Bottai and Michael Finney. In his most recent outing, he successfully defended his title with a fourth-round stoppage of Wilky Campfort in November.

In 2004, Trout won the U.S. National Amateur welterweight championship and after climbing up the ranks as an elite pro boxer, he won a super welterweight world championship in 2011 by defeating Rigoberto Alvarez. He went on to make four successful defenses, including a career-best dominant victory over Miguel Cotto in New York. He is currently on a four-fight win streak after knocking out Joey Hernandez in September to set up his world title opportunity.

Younger-by-one-minute than Jermall, Jermell Charlo is a highly ranked young fighter looking to get one step closer to a world title shot. A tall fighter for his division, the 25-year-old earned his shot at a world title with victories over Gabriel Rosado, Charlie Ota and Mario Lozano in 2014 and Martirosyan and former world champion Joachim Alcine in 2015. He impressed last time out by disposing of Alcine in the sixth-round of their fight in Houston in October.

Since representing his native Virgin Islands in the 2008 Olympics, Jackson has put together an impressive pro career. The St. Thomas-born fighter won his initial 13 fights after making his debut in January 2009. The 27-year-old earned the No. 1 spot and the title shot with a shut-out victory over Dennis Laurente in August. Jackson comes from a fighting family; his father Julian Jackson was a world champion and feared power-puncher while his brother, Julius, is a contender in the 168-pound weight class.
