WHERE TO WATCH

Black Lightning is powering down in 2021.
On Friday, the CW announced that the Cress Williams-led superhero drama's upcoming fourth season will be its last. A reason for the show's cancelation wasn't given at the time of the announcement, but showrunner Salim Akil did release a statement thanking everyone who has watched and been involved with the show.
"When we first started the Black Lighting journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black Women would be a unique addition to the super hero genre. The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series over the past three seasons proved what we imagined, Black People Want To See Themselves in all their complexities," said Akil in the statement. "Thank you to the phenomenal cast, writers and crew without whom none of this would’ve been possible. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve been able to do and the moments we’ve been able to create in bringing DC’s first African-American family of super heroes to life for the culture."

Premiering in 2018, Black Lightning centered on Williams' Jefferson Pierce, a teacher and retired superhero; however, in the pilot, he suited back up as Freeland's electricity-powered hero Black Lightning after his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) were kidnapped by a local gang. Eventually, his daughters started developing powers and joined the family business as Thunder and Lightning, respectively. One of the most impressive aspects of the show is how it's stories are inspired by real-life issues Black people face in America.
News of Black Lightning's end arrives eight days after the CW and Warner Bros. TV announced that Akil was developing a spin-off centered on Jordan Calloway's Painkiller, which would be introduced by a backdoor pilot in season 4.
"I’m very grateful to Peter Roth, Warner Bros. TV, Mark Pedowitz, The CW Network and Greg Berlanti for their partnership and support of my vision at every step of this journey. While Season Four may be the end of one journey, I’m extremely excited to usher in a new chapter and continued collaboration with The CW as we tell the story of Painkiller,” Akil said.

Black Lightning isn't the only Arrowverse show ending in the new year. The upcoming sixth season of Supergirl will also be its last. On the bright-side, the network has another caped offering in the works: A Wonder Girlseries, writer Dailyn Rodriguez (Queen of the South) and Greg Berlanti.
Black Lightning returns Monday, Feb. 8 at 9 p.m. on The CW.

Its time for CW/Warner to pull a Marvel and end all their TV shit/ArrowVerse and reboot on Their streaming service.... HBO Max/DC Universe...

DC should expand the Titans Universe to re-Introduce characters like Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Black Lightning...

I'll take a 10 episode/HBO Max version of Black Lighting over the watered down shit on CW....

Yo I'm old

I just don't get this generation ability or need to bare their souls in front of their phones

At the same time?

I understand

And perhaps this type of revelation can be helpful to others in her age group

As a parent it justs hurts a little to see someone so young expose themselves to the slings and arrows

It really is powerful either way.

And realize she been a star for YEARS already since Disney.

Hits too.

She crazy talented.

But its interesting that kid, flash, ruby rose, cisco now her have had serious conflicts while being on CW

Legends is going nowhere for at least another season .... If it ends after next season it will be because it's naturally run its course.

You can't be sure of anything these days, especially given that we're in the middle of a streaming war. Warner may try to pull the same move Disney did with all their Netflix Marvel properties by taking all the live-action DC content from CW & DC Universe to bring over to HBO Max. It would be a foolish move on their part, certainly, and it would suck for CW since the Arrowverse makes up like 80% of their content but you can't put anything past corporate greed.

I'm hoping that these cancellations are just a sign of the Arrowverse (I refuse to call it the CWverse) being revitalized. While I could do without another Superman series, I'm looking forward to see what they do with Black Lightning's Painkiller. They may be overdoing it a bit with all the female-led series (Stargirl, Wonder Girl, Green Arrow & The Canaries) but I'm not entirely mad at it.

At least CW is letting shows know ahead that it is giving them a final season ... but I do think that you are right about Warner trying to build up their HBO Max content with DC properties.

From the Website

The Legend Returns
You wake up and are looking at a G4 website.
Maybe you're a fan from way back. Maybe your friend told you to come here to get a free t-shirt. Well, the t-shirts are all gone, but we've got this super cool "About Us" article you're reading, so that's something. The most important thing is, yes, G4 IS BACK.

Like for real. It's really coming back. There's a website with a fancy purple shape design with stars in it and everything. You might be asking, "Why relaunch a TV network about video games now? We already have Twitch and YouTube!" Great question, we'll think about it. In the meantime, here's what we CAN tell you...

  • G4 is a digital first network going live in 2021.
  • Will it be on TV? Comcast pays the bills, so take a guess!
  • The network will feature gaming and pop culture shows plus epic live special programming. And an alpaca every now and then.
  • It will look awesome, but also kind of low budget at the same time.
  • We're doubling down on reruns of COPS and Cheaters.
Okay, that last one was a joke. The rest is true.

All Party Members Welcome
Love of gaming isn’t exclusive to any particular group or experience… and neither are we. That’s why we’re assembling a diverse range of human people (and potentially some NPC’s by accident) that reflect the full scope of the gaming community to build our G4 team. Super villains need not apply. But even then there are a lot of cool super villains... so maybe we can talk about a probationary system or something.

Together we're building a bigger, more inclusive playground than any one of us could on our own. Sure, our playground might have seesaws AND automated laser turrets, but it's all for fun. Well, the laser turrets are to build character. Point is, if you're reading this, there's no litmus test. You're already in.
Welcome to G4! Mind the lasers.

Well HBO Max has the streaming rights to all of WB produced content from the CW from 2019 and on... And will eventually get all the other content (ArrowVerse, etc....) back once contracts (Netflix) end...

Warner consolidating all their properties in one place (HBO Max) makes sense... DC Universe is basically a HBO Max Hub... No need for 2 separate apps or 3 with the CW to view DC content...

And Truthfully since the AT&T merger...
AT&T should just buy out CBSViacom....
Then rename and rebrand the CW...

Jefferson is grieving in first Black Lightning season 4 trailer

Black Lightning

WATCH IT NOW ON
Netflix, The CW, Microsoft Store, and more options

Is Jefferson Pierce done with Black Lightning? That seems to be the case in the first trailer for Black Lightning's fourth and final season, which the CW released Sunday morning.
"I can no longer be the man I was," Jefferson (Cress Williams) says in the 40-second promo. "Black Lightning was trying to save the world. I'm just trying to save my family." A shot later, Jefferson adds, "Black Lightning's dead." (But that's not stopping him from lighting up some cops out of costume in the teaser).
In the superhero drama's third season finale, the Pierce family successfully squashed Markovia's invasion of Freeland led by Wayne Brady's Gravedigger. Unfortunately, they suffered a major loss in the process: Jefferson's best friend Bill Henderson (Damon Gupton) died in the battle.

Based on the new synopsis for the season 4 premiere, Jefferson's dark mood in the trailer is definitely of Henderson's passing. "Jefferson Pierce is still mourning the death of his long-time friend Detective Henderson," reads the logline. "Meanwhile, Gambi (James Remar) is presented with an interesting opportunity. Lastly, Lynn (Christine Adams) and Jefferson are still not able to see eye to eye."
"Because real life, [when] you lose people like that, it's not something that just goes away," said Williams. "It is something that affects you and carries through. My guess, if I was going to be writing it, is that I think it would make Jefferson even more cautious and scared of anybody else doing this stuff, his daughters included. I think he'd be a lot more, I would hope, more cautious, and almost that would be kind of a hurdle to get over in the next season, that he's almost too cautious because he lost someone."

In other words, it seems as though Williams got his wish. When EW spoke to the actor at the end of season 3, he said he hoped the show wouldn't just move on from Henderson's death and suspected it would affect how Jefferson moved forward.
While the trailer shows both Thunder (Nafessa Williams) and Lightning (China Anne McClain, who has a reduced role this season) suited up and fighting crime in Freeland, the trailer doesn't provide any major clues about the season's big threat beyond a quick shot of Tobias Whale (Marvin "Krondon" Jones III) menacingly seated in an off-white suit.
Watch the trailer above.
Even though Black Lightning is ending, there's hope that its world will continue because the CW is developing a Painkiller spin-off centered on Jordan Calloway's Khalil Payne. The potential series will be introduced via a backdoor pilot in the final season.

yeah child actors have always gotten a raw deal in hollywood

this was of the most uncomfortable vids ever though

there was an honesty and pain and just finality and certainty to it that was difficult to watch

especially as a black parent.

I WISH she COULD have gotten even MORE specific

but it was enough.

She will sing a different tune when the bills begin to exceed her savings/ income.

i don't know about that.

we have had more than a few instances of these child stars more recently just up and LEAVING the business (or just being unwanted)

happily

some become directors, writers, producers

some start their own business or get normal 9 to 5

start families

a few have become award wining scientists.

think this young woman seems like she got her head on straight.

she ALREADY has had a career just off her Disney and CW projects ADULTS would have killed for.
