Legends of Tomorrow's Jonah Hex will return in the Arrowverse's 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' crossover

A familiar face from the Old West will be in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

EW has learned that Johnathon Schaech (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Now Apocalypse) is returning as Jonah Hex for the Arrowverse’s forthcoming crossover. At this point, there aren’t any details on how his DC Comics gunslinger will fit into the epic five-hour event, which includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman.

Schaech debuted as the disfigured Civil War veteran-turned-bounty hunter in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s first season when the titular band of time travelers visited Salvation, Dakota, in 1871. The Legends crossed paths with the gruff hero again (read: saved him from execution) in season 2’s 1874-set outing “Outlaw Country,” and Jonah, in turn, assisted the team in the Beebo-tastic season 3 finale. Jonah’s appearance in the crossover isn’t entirely surprising because in the comic upon which the crossover is based, heroes and villains from across time start appearing on Earth-1 as what remains of the multiverse starts collapsing.

The Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” is shaping up to be quite the affair. Here’s a quick rundown of who else will be in the big tale: LaMonica Garrett (The Monitor and Anti-Monitor), Jon Cryer (as Lex Luthor), Tyler Hoechlin (Superman), Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane), Kevin Conroy (Future Bruce Wayne), Burt Ward, and characters from The CW’s Black Lightning. Furthermore, Legends‘ star Brandon Routh will play the Kingdom Come version of Superman.

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” kicks off with Supergirl on Sunday, Dec. 8, followed by Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 and The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10. After the winter hiatus, the crossover resumes on Tuesday, Jan. 14 with Arrow at 8 p.m. and concludes with Legends of Tomorrow at 9 p.m.

Update (7/20/19)
-During Arrow's San Diego Comic-Con 2019 panel, Brandon Routh revealed he was wearing a shirt with the Kingdom Come Superman emblem, further hinting that he will in fact be playing this tragic version of Superman from an alternate universe in the Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover.

Original story follows.Update: Brandon Routh will be playing the Kingdom Come version of Superman, according to a rumor from reporter Umberto Gonzalez, who says the info came from "insiders with knowledge."

This would mean that Routh is not playing his same Superman character from Superman Returns and will be a different version all together. Given that the Arrowverse crossover is titled Crisis on Infinite Earths, it makes sense that Routh would play a Superman from another universe's Earth. Kingdom Come is an acclaimed comic from writer Mark Waid and artist Alex Ross set in an alternate universe where a tragedy causes Superman to go into hiding and eventually returning to inspire a new generation of superheroes. This version of Superman is known for his graying hair and black-and-red chest emblem.

The original story is below.

Brandon Routh, known for his role as Superman in Bryan Singer's 2006 Superman Returns, will reprise his role for CW's upcoming crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths, as reported by Deadline and confirmed to IGN at San Diego Comic-Con.

Tyler Hoechlin who portrays Superman in the Arrowverse on Supergirl, will return as well. Both Routh and Hoechlin will reportedly assume the roles of Superman in different time frames, yet it is unknown who will be in which episodes.
Awesome Cosplay from San Diego Comic-Con 2019
Crisis on Infinite Earths will bring together the entire Arrowverse series for a five-episode order, including, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. The crossover will premiere in December with three episodes released that month, and two following in January.

Routh will also reprise his role of Ray Palmer/The Atom in DC's Legends of Tomorrow for the crossover. Hints for Crisis on Infinite Earths were released in Arrow and The Flash's season finales, which is titled after the 12-issue DC Comics series from the '80s.

Identity Crisis

Brandon Routh as Superman, Tom Welling as Superman, Kevin Conroy as an older Bruce Wayne, Burt Ward as ... got to be Dick Grayson at this point, right?

Warner Bros. the CW and Greg Berlanti seem intent on fulfilling every DC fangirl and fanboy's holiday wishes this December in the Arrowverse "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover.

Already a sort of 'what if the the most popular Comic-Con autograph lines and line-wide comic book crossover event had a baby,' this winter's "Crisis" could still add a few names that would sweeten the pot to unprecedented (on TV) levels.

Here are 11 more actors (or pairings) we hope also get the Crisis call.

P.S. - If we missed your favorite, tell us (respectfully) who you'd like to see heed the call on Facebook and Twitter.

Krypton Star Almost Appeared in The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths
Cameron-Cuffe-Crisis-on-Infinite-Earths.jpg

One face fans should not expect to make an appearance in the Arrowverse's hotly-anticipated "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover is that of Krypton star Cameron Cuffe. The British-born actor played Superman's grandfather, Seg-El on SYFY's DC prequel series. Despite the heavy dose of skepticism surrounding the premise, the show earned positive reviews and impressive ratings when it debuted in 2018. Sadly, the numbers dropped significantly across its sophomore outing. As a result, the cable network axed both Krypton and its planned Lobo spinoff directly after the former's season 2 finale.

The Arrowverse, however, has continued to thrive on The CW. Kicking off with Arrow in 2012, the shared DC universe quickly expanded to include The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. They were later joined by Supergirl, which began life on CBS before switching networks ahead of its own second season. Over the last few years, the annual crossover has become a staple of the collective shows. The latest will be their most ambitious yet and will adapt the seminal 1985 storyline. The five-hour event will see a host familiar faces - including Smallville's Tom Welling as Superman and his former co-star Erica Durance as Lois Lane. That particular corner of the world will also be represented by Brandon Routh suiting up as Kingdom Come Superman and Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their roles as Supergirl's own Man of Steel and Lois Lane, respectively.

Posting on Twitter, however, Marc Guggenheim revealed that they came close to an even bigger House of El reunion. As the creator of Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, Guggenheim has served as a writer and producer on both shows. He also contributed to each crossover. Guggenheim co-wrote the Crisis of Infinite Earths adaptation with the original comic writer, Marv Wolfman. Responding to a request that he get Cuffe for the episodes, Guggenheim replied (along with a sad face image) that they actually tried but that they "couldn't make the dates work". The full post can be seen in the space below:

Guggenheim recently penned an episode of Amazon's Carnival Row and is also reportedly helping to develop a True Lies TV show, based on the 1994 film of the same name. Cuffe, meanwhile, previously starred in a number of movies. It's unclear what led to him being unavailable for the crossover. Equally, the plot of the Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptation and how faithful it will be to the acclaimed source material remains firmly under lock and key, subject to Marvel-like spoiler protections. The storyline will, however, impact The Flash as early as the first episode. It will also introduce Black Lightning's characters into the wider fold for the first time.

Krypton fans eager for a reprieve from the recent cancelation will no doubt be disappointed by the news. There, however, remains plenty for fans to look forward to from what is widely being considered an Endgame-level event. And although season 8 will be Arrow's last, each of the other shows will continue - with even more spin-offs planned to fill the void left by The CW's inaugural offering. As such, fans can probably expect future crossovers and brief merges of the individual shows. Given that, there's always a chance Cuffe will make an appearance at some point down the line.

Let the record show that Lois Lane might just be the hardest working reporter not just in Metropolis, but in the entire DC multiverse.

Deadline reports that Smallville’s Erica Durance is set to reprise her role as that universe’s Lois Lane (who was introduced in its fourth season) in the CW’s upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths event that will feature multiple Supermen from various universes. Considering that Tom Welling’s also coming back, Durance’s Lois isn’t exactly a surprise.

Durance’s casting might just be a sign of even wilder comebacks to be announced for the event because hey, if you’re going to do Crisis, you’ve really, really got to go all out.

Crisis on Infinite Earths hits the CW in December, with three episodes of the five-part event airing this year, and the other two dropping in January.

UPDATE 9/20 1.37 PM: It seems as if we’ve spoken too soon. An earlier version of this post stated that Durance was the only actress set to reprise her role as Lane, but Entertainment Weekly’s just reported Elizabeth Tulloch (who first played Lois Lane during last year’s Elseworlds event) is also set to reprise her role as the reporter, who will now have had a baby with Superman. What a world.

Why Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum won't play Lex Luthor for 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'

After news broke that the upcoming Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths” will play host to a Smallville reunion, featuring both Tom Welling and Erica Durance reprising their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, fans immediately got their hopes up that Michael Rosenbaum would be the next major announcement. But the Smallville alum revealed Tuesday morning on Twitter that he won’t be playing Lex Luthor in the five-part TV event. However, it wasn’t for lack of trying on The CW and Warner Bros. TV side of things!

“Friends, many of you have tweeted and asked me about joining the Infinite Crossover,” Rosenbaum writes. “I can’t tell you how much this means to me. I’ll just be straight up about this. WB called my agents Friday afternoon when I was in Florida visiting my grandfather in a nursing home. Their offer: No Script. No idea what I’m doing. No idea when I’m shooting. Basically no money. And the real kick in the ass ‘We have to know now.’ My simple answer was ‘Pass.’ I think you can understand why.”

EFPc2BeUcAAKV_c

Representatives for WB Television had no comment.

For those who didn’t watch Smallville, The CW’s longest-running superhero series (so far), Rosenbaum was part of the 2001 Superman prequel’s original cast, debuting a new version of the iconic bald villain before he broke bad. In fact, Smallville introduced an all-new origin story for the fated nemesis in which he was actually friends with Clark when the latter was still in high school. They met when Lex accidentally hit Clark with his car, but Clark’s secrets eventually drove Lex to the dark side. After leaving Smallville (and returning for the series finale), Rosenbaum starred on Breaking In and Impastor.

While Rosenbaum’s Lex won’t appear in the crossover, another version of the supervillain will. Jon Cryer will reprise his Supergirl version of Lex in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Other versions of Superman appearing in the crossover are Tyler Hoechlin and Legends of Tomorrow’s Brandon Routh, and Elizabeth Tulloch will reprise her Arrowverse version of Lois as well. Also appearing in the mega “Crisis” crossover are Black Lightning’s Cress Williams, Batman: The Animated Series’ Kevin Conroy as a Bruce Wayne from the future, LaMonica Garrett as both the Monitor and Anti-Monitor, Batman’s Burt Ward, and John Wesley Shipp returning to the Arrowverse once more.

The “Crisis on Infinite Earths” Arrowverse crossover begins with Supergirl on Sunday, Dec. 8, followed by Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9, and The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The crossover then resumes with part two after the holiday break with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Birds of Prey star to reprise Huntress role in Arrowverse's 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'

WARNER BROS.
Another face from DC TV’s past is joining Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover.

EW has confirmed that Birds of Prey star Ashley Scott will reprise her role as Huntress in the five-hour crossover event, which includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. TVLine first reported the news.

For the uninitiated, Birds of Prey was a one-season WB superhero show that aired from 2002 to 2003. It followed Scott’s Huntress, a.k.a. Helena Kyle, as she, Oracle (Dina Meyer), and Black Canary/Dinah Redmond (Batwoman’s Rachel Skarsten) fought a war on crime in a Gotham City that had been abandoned by the Batman. (Sound familiar?) There’s no word yet whether Scott will reunite with Skarsten, who plays Batwoman big bad Alice, in the event.

This won’t be the first time the DC Comics character Huntress has appeared in the Arrowverse. Jessica De Gouw played the ruthless vigilante in Arrow’s first two seasons.

Scott joins a long list of DC TV and movie alums appearing the highly anticipated crossover. Smallville’s Tom Welling and Erica Durance are set to reprise their Clark Kent and Lois Lane roles, Legends of Tomorrow’s Brandon Routh will suit up as the Kingdom Come version of Superman, Batman: The Animated SeriesKevin Conroy will appear as Bruce Wayne from the future, and Batman’s Burt Ward will put in an appearance too.

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” kicks off with Supergirl on Sunday, Dec. 8, followed by Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9, and The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10. After the winter hiatus, the crossover will resume Tuesday, Jan. 14, with Arrow at 8 p.m. and conclude with Legends of Tomorrow at 9 p.m.

Make way for some big — er, make that small — casting news: Supernatural alum Osric Chau has just joined the Arrowverse!

The actor has landed the recurring role of Ryan Choi in the upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” five-part crossover, EW has confirmed. Described as a physics professor at Ivy Town University, Ryan is just a normal guy who comes to learn that he has a pivotal role to play in the coming crisis.

image

JOHN WOLFSOHN/GETTY IMAGES
But what comic book fans know is that Ryan’s fate is so much bigger — gah, again, smaller! — than that. He’s actually another version of the Atom, who takes up the mantle after Ray Palmer (played by Brandon Routh in the Arrowverse) disappears. Does that mean Routh’s upcoming exit from Legends of Tomorrow (along with his real-life wife Courtney Ford), has something to do with Ryan’s debut in the Arrowverse? It’s also interesting to note that so far, Routh has only been confirmed to appear in the “Crisis” crossover as the Kingdom Come version of Superman and not the Atom.

Canadian actor Chau is best known for his recurring role on six seasons of the long-running CW series Supernatural as Kevin Tran, a brilliant, overachieving high school student whose life suddenly changes when he becomes a Prophet of God. Sure sounds a lot like his new role as a young man fated to become a superhero! Chau has also appeared in Roland Emmerich’s 2012 and is currently a series regular on BBC America’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

The Arrowverse just began production on its epic crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths” this week, and we already have our first look at the reunion of Smallville‘s Tom Welling and Erica Durance.

On Thursday, Durance shared an image of her and Welling on the set of the five-hour crossover. Both stars were wearing flannel and seemed all smiles as they posed with what looks to be the wall of a farmhouse as their backdrop.

“So, I was just minding my own business, and I ran into this guy,” Durance captioned her photo. “Laughed until I cried! So much fun.”

Welling and Durance will reprise their Smallville roles — Lois Lane and Clark Kent, respectively — in the upcoming five-hour event, which will reveal what the couple has been up to since that long-running Superman prequel series ended in 2011.

Of course, these two aren’t the crossover’s only Clark and Lois. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch are also returning as the Arrowverse’s Superman and Lois, with their newborn child in tow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s Brandon Routh will also appear as a version of the Man of Steel who wears a costume based on Alex Ross’ Kingdom Come design. In other words, the Smallville farmhouse will likely be very crowded this winter.

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” will span Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. It will kick off with Supergirl on Sunday, Dec.

Holy sh*t.

Wtf?!?

DC/CW trying to break the internet.

This thing is insane.

(Is netflix somehow saying f you marvel?)

If those execs do not use this to relaunch their streaming app NOW

To completely hit Disney in the jaw early in the first round?

They should be fired and tarred and feather.

This is crazy.

Remember there is no marvel tv when shield leaves

They got freeform and hulu

But its really all the app right now.

This could be one of the greatest events ever...period.

I'm talking genre defining game changing potential start to a big push in a media format

But...

Batwoman so far is not the one.

I'm unsure about the arrow spin off and nancy drew etc...

They can't go full estrogen. Their margin for error is so damn small.

They can't squander this...

This is like a network airing Hamilton live on tv with the original cast

This can't be the endgame

This needs to be the resurrection the new beginning

You cannot let Arrow go after this...

Cause once Disney + starts dropping hits back to back to back?

You aint gonna be #1, always #2.

But that aint necessarily bad.
