Apparently Bayern and PSG aren't in. I don't see how this works especially without those two. I honestly think this is an attempt to get a bigger share of the champions league tv money.

Either that, or they’ve found a way to circumnavigate UEFA finances all together. Either way, all twelve teams accountants have covered this to keep them in the green, enough so to make them come out on top. Some of the financials are insane.

Imagine Sky and BT chomping at the bits for that TV contract to start ...

Another article I read mentioned the possibility of players who participate in this shit losing the ability to participate in World Cups etc. :smh:
This is crazy because it means that PSG didn't "sell out" but Barcelona did.
Also its crazy because Everton and Schalke have more revenue than Milan now.

All of that said, if it happens people will watch. Just like the watched the Russian World Cup and will watch the shit in Qatar.

Yessir. I can’t see what leverage UEFA and FIFA have at this current point in time. They almost have no choice but to pay up to these clubs and change the clauses. Nothing will make any sense if they stick to their guns. PSG would be crowned European champs tomorrow and Leicester would be Prem champs on the same day. A World Cup without Messi and Ronaldo and all the other heavyweights that play on these teams would suck, but folks would still watch.

That being said, it’s all a money grab. Barcelona are £1b in debt, Inter sought out emergency funds in February, Madrid couldn’t buy a stamp this summer, Juve have to find €100m by June, and United are saddled with American debt around the £460m mark. All these teams are broke af and saw this as the answer.

Food for thought: the winner of the super league will get an estimated payout of £3.5b. That leaves the last seed team, irrespective of quality of play, will walk away with some £400m, which is more than the actual champions league winners that come in at €82m.

Disgusting.

12 of Europe’s biggest football clubs form breakaway Super League

Twelve leading European football clubs — Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan — announced that they have agreed to join a new midweek competition called the European Super League (ESL). In a joint statement, the founding clubs said that three more teams are expected to join before the inaugural season, which is "expected to start as soon as possible." FIFA expressed its "disapproval" for the new competition, while the UEFA said "the clubs concerned will be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams."

Been a whirlwind 24 hours .. might as well throw this on there as well.

He is a two seasons coach, glad they realize that.

Liverpool is the only big team in Europe that allow players and coaches to feel comfortable in their place when they are losing.

There goes that .. the Euros, World Cup, Copa America, and all other international tourneys are gonna be shy of quality now.

I wouldn’t even give him two seasons. He may end like a Roy Hodgson or Sam Allardyce at this rate.

He needs to pivot to a national team. He can recoup himself there.
Countries don't own players the way clubs do. You know he is a control freak, he even opposes player playing for their country - he felt that international football was burning out his players.

Btw I do not like this new idea of super league, it doesn't encourage any parity among the clubs in Europe. This will give smaller teams even less chance to retain their star player.

He’s also a pragmatist so I’m sure once he’s cut ties with club football, he’d be singing the same song on the national team level. “Oh the clubs eat up too much time from my players and we need more access to them.”

:hmm:

In Germany, there is the 50+1 rule, where owners can only own 51% of the club.

This is a travesty to football. No relegation for certain clubs. It seems that some managers and players won't be happy with this decision.

And why would they be? It’s a money grab. Simple as. These owners took zero account into how damaging this is too football on every level.

Travesty of the highest order.

Also shamefully, I hate that it’s the American business models that are spearheading this.

We stick our noses into everything and somehow have found a way to destroy football. :smh:

Some players would want to play for such clubs, some players will be unhappy in the way the club is going with this. Will be interesting to see how players and managers respond to this.

To be honest, in it's current state, My team (Spurs) and Woolwich definitely don't have no place in this league as of now.

Commenting on the plans to introduce a European Super League, FC Bayern München CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "FC Bayern has not been involved in the plans for creating a Super League. We are convinced that the current structure in football guarantees a reliable foundation. FC Bayern welcomes the reforms of the Champions League because we believe they are the right step to take for the development of European football. The modified group stage will contribute to an increase in excitement and the emotional experience in the competition."

I’ve heard this as well, but I think this is larger than current form on the pitch. For all the recent struggles, my side (United) included, this is about the profile of the clubs, and without a doubt Spurs and Arsenal have BIG profiles that are revenue generators worldwide.

If it were based strictly on merit on the pitch, then I could definitely see that.

And this is what it should’ve been. Reform the CL, but don’t abandon it outright.
