Will the ‘Inhumans’ Movie Cross Over With ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’?

Although the Inhumans movie isn’t due in theaters for another three and a half years, Marvel seemed to belaying some early groundwork with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The Inhumans were introduced on the show at the end of last season and have continued to play a major part in the show this season. But according Clark Gregg, that doesn’t necessarily mean we can expect a crossover between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Inhumans movie.

Gregg shared his thoughts on a potential SHIELD Inhumans crossover with Digital Spy:

The Inhumans movie I suspect will be its own cinematic version. That writer and director will have free reign to do what they want to do with the Inhumans. But hopefully there’ll be some way that our Inhumans connect to that. It’d be too bad if that was wasted.

We’d definitely advise taking this one with a grain of salt. All Gregg’s quote really tells us that he, personally, does not know of any crossover plans in the works at the moment. (And maybe not even that, since Marvel’s stars are well trained in the art of keeping secrets from the press.) So it’s possible that Marvel does want a crossover, but just hasn’t gotten around to informing Gregg yet. Regardless of what Marvel’s thinking right now, a lot can change between now and 2019, even in a franchise as meticulously mapped out as the MCU.

But it’s also worth noting that Marvel’s TV and movie divisions are, well, a little more divided now than they used to be. Over the summer, Marvel Studios underwent some major corporate restructuring that ended with Kevin Feige in charge of Marvel’s films, and reporting to Disney’s Alan Horn, while Feige’s old boss Ike Perlmutter remained in control of Marvel’s TV shows. Even if the original plan was for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to set up Inhumans, that may not be the case anymore.

And that might not be such a bad thing. As Gregg points out, S.H.I.E.L.D. can and should be able to stand on its own.

What’s kind of necessary for the show to work is that it is its own thing and it’s not dependent upon those crossovers. They’re just fun stuff that happens once in a while. They destroy the organization our show is named after and we have to deal with that! I’ll be interested to see how it evolves, that crossover stuff.

We’d be interested to see how it evolves, too. As of now, Inhumans is perhaps the most mysterious of the Phase Three films, mostly because it’s the last one. It’s slated to land in theaters July 12, 2019, which is far enough away that it doesn’t have a director, writer, or cast yet (although Vin Diesel is certainly trying his hardest to keep the rumor mill churning). There were some recent rumors that the Inhumans movie could get cancelled completely, but so far we’ve seen no confirmation of that.

It will be stupid,if they don't connect the TV show with the movie :smh:

When Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns next week, it will feature an altered version of Brett Dalton’s Grant Ward, as seen in the mid-season finale, and speaking to Nerdist, series Executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen revealed he has become a version of comic book villain Hive.

“As we saw in the midseason finale episode, Ward is back on Earth, but he’s definitely not the same Ward who went through the portal to the alien world….Our version of Hive is going to have its own unique twist and be very different from what fans have seen so far. We will see similarities that pay homage to the original character, but fans will see that Hive is taking an exciting new direction in the world of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.IE.L.D. Grant Ward has been one of the most compelling characters and captivating villains to write for and Brett Dalton has taken on every challenge with ease and a presence that is unmatched. Ward has evolved in every season of ‘SHIELD’ and we are so excited for fans to see our take (and Brett’s take!) on this well-known character.”

You can check out a new image of Ward’s Hive, a little less tentacle-y than his comic book counter part, below!

Airing on Tuesday, March 8,the mid-season premiere of the series is titled “Bouncing Back” and described as follows: “Their enemy has evolved. Their greatest threat has returned. Can SHIELD reunite the secret warriors to combat a danger unlike any the world has ever seen?”

The Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast includes Clark Gregg as Director Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Agent Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Nick Blood as Agent Lance Hunter, Adrianne Palicki as Agent Bobbi Morse, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie and Luke Mitchell as Lincoln Campbell.
