Lakers pull out of Anthony Davis trade talks amid 'outrageous' requests by Pelicans

The Lakers have pulled out of conversations aimed at trying to acquire New Orleans All-Star forward Anthony Davis because of the Pelicans’ “outrageous” trade requests, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Magic Johnson, the Lakers’ president of basketball operations, told New Orleans general manager Dell Demps on Tuesday morning that the Lakers had made their best offer, were not willing to add anything else and were done with negotiations, said the person who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

The person said the Lakers were not willing to give up the six to eight draft picks the Pelicans sought for Davis.

The Lakers later Tuesday agreed in principle to acquire Reggie Bullock from Detroit for rookie Svi Mykhailiuk. The trade is expected to be completed Wednesday. The Lakers wanted Bullock because of his shooting — this season he’s making 38.4% of his three-pointers and 87.5% of his free throws.

Late Monday night, the Lakers had changed their offer at the request of the Pelicans, two people with knowledge of the situation said.

The Lakers agreed to send their entire young core of Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and Ivica Zubac to the Pelicans, as well as veteran guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the two people said.

The Lakers’ final offer did include two first-round draft picks, they said. Los Angeles also offered to give New Orleans the salary-cap relief it wanted by acquiring Solomon Hill, who has another year left on hiscontract after this season for $12.7 million.

Over the course of their talks, the Lakers made several changes to their proposals, one person said.

“They wanted more and more and more,” one person said. “There was no more to give. They had cap relief with Hill being in the deal. But the more they wanted, the more it became outrageous and unrealistic.”

One person said the Pelicans are hopeful Davis will want to play for New Orleans beyond this season if he isn’t traded by the NBA deadline at noon PST on Thursday.

“But that’s not going to happen,” the person said. “AD is not changing his mind.”

Time for Laker fans to watch stat paddington go to work and make 68 percent of his free throws while throwing the entire team under the bus. I hope we get AD cause then I don't want to hear another excuse from any Bron stan ever.

Point guard Kyle Lowry is not worried about the rumors on his future.
Lowry has been rumored being offered by the Toronto Raptors to the Memphis Grizzlies for Marc Gasol and Mike Conley.

Per ESPN, “I think they will make decisions for themselves, and they’ll do what’s best for them,” Lowry told ESPN after scoring 20 points to go with six assists and two steals in a 119-107 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. “I don’t think there’s one thing I can say or do [to change that], you know what I mean?

“I think that’s just how they work, and they operate. They make moves, and they make moves for the best of the organization. If they do something that will be their feeling to whatever the organization thinks is best for them.

REPORT: Knicks Were Anthony Davis' Top Choice Before Porzingis Refused Extension

Anthony Davis might have been a New York Knick by now if it wasn't for that rascally Kristaps Porzingis. On the day KP was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks, the Knicks were reportedly working on a trade with New Orleans with the knowledge that Madison Square Garden was Davis's top choice for a trade destination.

Unfortunately for Knicks fans, Porzingis refused to agree to an extension with the Pelicans and the deal fell apart. Fast-forwarding to today, Davis remains in New Orleans as the NBA trade deadline approaches.

"The New York Knicks were the No. 1 choice of Anthony Davis last week on the day that Kristaps Porzingis was traded to Dallas … but Porzingis’ unwillingness to commit to a long-term deal with New Orleans killed that deal."https://t.co/HxtmU38FRy

The Lakers had been considered the subsequent leading candidate to acquire Davis after the Knicks shipped Porzingis to Dallas, but the Pelicans' high demands for his services had kept any deal from being made up to this point.

Any deal to Los Angeles that does occur would have to be contingent on Davis signing a contract extension with the Lakers; otherwise, he could simply opt out and leave in free agency after next season. If no deal is made with the Lakers, the Knicks could have an outside chance to pull off a deal at the last minute since Davis hasn't played for the Pelicans since he requested to be traded.

With few assets remaining, the chances of Davis suiting up for the Knicks anytime soon are essentially zero, but the pipe dream can still exist for 2020. No action is the best action for Knicks fans at this point.

Anthony Davis available, but Pelicans will hold him out vs. Chicago

CHICAGO - Anthony Davis is fully healed from a left finger injury and has been cleared to play, but he will not make his return to the court for the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls.

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said the team was going to sit Davis, who asked for a trade on Jan. 28, but has not played since Jan. 18 because of a volar plate avulsion fracture in his left index finger.

“He (available to play) but we’re not going to play him until after the trading deadline,” Gentry said. “I think you can understand that.”

Gentry did not say if the Pelicans would play Davis after the trading deadline on Thursday if he is still a member of the organization.

Davis has maintained that he wants to play when healthy this season despite asking for a trade.

When asked on Monday about Davis playing after the deadline, Gentry said, “I don’t make those decisions.”

The Pelicans could get forward Julius Randle back on Wednesday night. Gentry said Randle is available to play but added “we’re going to figure that out before tonight” in regards to if he’ll take the floor.

“I don’t like sitting down, so it feels good,” Randle said about being available.

The 76ers getting Tobias is huge. He can get his own shot and has a good motor. If the 76ers can add Kemba Walker in the off season the East better look out.

Wtf are the Clippers doing? 76ers just raped these dudes.
Nah, I dont think they got raped; Sixers gave up 2 1st rounders for a player that the Clipper didnt really want to resign; and one of those picks should be a lottery pick...
