The Knicks have agreed to a two-year deal with stud rookie Allonzo Trier that will force them to release reserve guard Ron Baker, an NBA source confirmed.
Trier’s two-way G League contract has been converted into a two-year, estimated $6.8 million deal in which the Knicks will use their biannual exception and could cost them cap space for next season. According to an NBA source, the second year, worth $3.5 million, is a team option. The Knicks will have to make a decision before July 1 free agency begins.
If the Knicks exercise Trier’s option it would leave them with $30 million in cap space. That factors in Kristaps Porzingis’ cap hold and waiving Damyean Dotson’s final non-guaranteed year.

“Ron is a true professional and we thank him for all of his contributions during his time with the Knicks,” Knicks president Steve Mills said. “His dedication and passion for the game are unquestioned and have been truly appreciated by our fans and organization. We wish him all the best.”

The Athletic first reported Baker was to be waived.
