Mbappe had them chasing shadows for 40+ minutes so as soon as a bit of fatigue kicks in you start making mental mistakes. Like you say, the same thing happened to the US. Think back to some of those Mourinho teams that defended like that (the inter squad that beat Barcelona is a great example) and you see why players love him or hate him.
