“During one long break, Gene [Simmons] and Donald engaged in language so profane, it would have raised eyebrows in prison,” Omarosa wrote. “Donald asked Gene, ‘What do you think of Ivanka? How’s she doing?’ ”
“What followed was a vile exchange, right in front of Ivanka, with Gene Simmons talking about her in a room full of people. While leering openly at her breasts, he said, ‘She’s a very, very sexy, desirable young woman who I’m looking forward to getting to know much better if you know what I mean, with all due respect.’”
According to Manigualt, Ivanka protested to her dad but to no avail.
“Everyone else in the room was shocked, not by Gene’s language (we knew he was a disgusting pig), but by Donald’s obvious delight in hearing it. He had complete control of the boardroom. He could have shut it down at any point. But he didn’t,” she recalled.
“I saw him briefly as he was walking up the aisle to leave the auditorium, and he was livid. ‘We were robbed! They cheated us!’ he said in full voice. ‘I’m so pissed, Omarosa. They cheated us!’ and then he was gone,” she wrote.

Lets be brutally honest. Trump's racism has been common knowledge since at least the 90's. You have the Central Park 5 editorial in the 1990's, the birther movement in 2012, etc. Despite this, Trump was so incredibly charismatic and successful that dozens of Black celebrities took still took pictures with him and called him a friend. Dozens of Black rappers still shouted him out in their songs. When The Apprentice was on the air BGOL had multiple page threads where members praised Trump's business acumen and blamed contestants for getting themselves fired. I'll admit to reading "The Art Of the Deal" several times hoping that some of that Trump magic would rub off on me too.
It wasn't until 2016 that people really started to accept just how horrible this guy actually is. Even then there were many people who shrugged off Trump's racism as a ploy to win over some of the more gullible hillbilly voters. Not only did Omerosa fall into this trap, she had already invested considerable time, energy and reputation into Trump so there was a sunken cost factor as well.
In that same spirit of honesty lets admit that almost no one, myself included, checked racism nearly as hard five years ago as we do now.
