Yes, Black people have been calling out racism since the beginning. However, 5 years ago you rarely saw things like viral videos of white people calling cops on people for being Black. It's not because the tech wasn't there and it's not like white people just started doing it yesterday. 5 years ago it also used to be somewhat acceptable for white people to use the N word in front of their Black friends so long as they used the soft R. Thankfully that's done with now. So is shouting out Trump or or any other white CEO on rap records. There are plenty of other examples, but those are the first ones to come to mind.
IMO it's because Trump's election and reign as president has woken people up to just how dangerous casually racist attitudes can be. People finally realize that the white boy who makes a throwaway comment one day is calling the police or filling the ballot box with something that can do real harm the next.
Now the question becomes how do you judge people like Omarosa who let shit slide back when? It's easy to call her a sellout or to take the piss out of anyone who says she has some admirable qualities, but in a way that ignores context. It's worth noting that she worked under president Clinton, never blatantly endorsed any of Trump's batshit policies and left the white house by choice. In my mind that puts her at least within the realm of redemption.
I'm excited to see what her book reveals.

5 years ago it was common to go public transit see a group of Black men with one white associate and everyone using the word.
