Texas police charged Keith James Cote, a 62-year-old from Austin, Texas, with soliciting to commit capital murder after he allegedly offered to pay a U.S. marine $25,000 if the veteran would shoot and kill Cote’s girlfriend.
Cote, arrested Monday, allegedly told the Marine he wanted his girlfriend dead “because she’s dating a black guy,” according to KXAN.
The Austin Statesman reported that the Texas man invited his acquaintance, who had two tours of duty in Iraq, over to his house to watch a Philadelphia Eagles football game on Oct. 7.
At first, Cote reportedly asked the veteran if he knew how to buy a gun silencer, KVUE reported.
Then Cote allegedly told the veteran he had a deal “right up his alley” because he knew the Marine had killed people before, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Statesman.
Police say Cote presented the veteran with $10,000 that he offered to give the Marine in exchange for killing his ex-girlfriend, according to the Associated Press. He added that he would give the Marine another $15,000 if he could “watch him put a bullet in her head.”
At first, the Iraq war veteran assumed Cote was joking, and said he thought nothing more of his alleged proposition, according to KVUE. But he said Cote kept calling, asking if the Marine was still interested in carrying out the deadly plot.
The concerned man then called Travis County police, telling them about the murderous offer, the Statesman reported. The police then equipped the veteran with a microphone, observing conversations between the two as Cote explained his plans for killing his ex-girlfriend.
Police located and reached out to Cote’s ex-girlfriend, who told authorities she broke up with him in 2011 after they dated for several years, KXAN wrote. According to an arrest affidavit, the woman told police “she was not surprised to learn of this plot.”
“When asked why she believed Mr. Cote would want her killed, she confirmed that Mr. Cote is a racist and confirmed that she is now dating a black man,” the Statesman reported the affidavit as saying. “She stated that the only thing Mr. Cote hates more than a black man was a white woman who is with a black man.”
Cote, who is in a wheelchair because of an accident, allegedly told the Marine he would kill his ex-girlfriend himself “if it were not for his accident,” according to KXAN.
He is currently in Travis County Jail with a bond of $1 million, according to the Patch.
But police said Cote’s ex told them she doesn’t feel safe, even if he is in jail, KXAN reported.
“She stated that even in jail or prison she will continue to live in fear,” the affidavit read, “because she believes that he will still have the ability to hire someone to kill her.”

An Ohio man accused in the rape and murder of a 13-month-old girl was captured early Friday in Pennsylvania after being on the run for three weeks.
Joshua Gurto was busted in the Pittsburgh area at approximately 1:30 a.m. and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
Little Sereniti Jazzlynn-Sky Blankenship-Sutley was found unresponsive at an apartment in Conneaut, Ohio, on Oct. 7. She had blunt-force injuries to her head and body, and died at a hospital.
The child was the daughter of Gurto's girlfriend, according to reports. Aggravated murder and rape charges were filed against the 37-year-old Gurto earlier this month.
Gurto was apprehended at a gas station in Franklin Park. He was wearing camouflage and had a backpack with him.
Gurto had been seen on surveillance video while on the loose.

The suspect had maps of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and was in possession of a knife when he was arrested, authorities said Friday.
The fugitive had been spotted in Ohio Township at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday,according to KDKA.

Andy Dick was fired from the independent movie “Raising Buchanan” following accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct on the set.
Dick’s inappropriate behavior allegedly included “groping people’s genitals, unwanted kissing/licking and sexual propositions of at least four members of the production,” according to theHollywood Reporter.
The 51-year-old comedian and actor has a well-documentedhistory of exposing himselfon stage as well as previous groping charges that haveled to his arrest. He told THR that he did make advances and may have licked people, but denied getting inappropriately handsy.
“My middle name is ‘misconduct,’” Dick told THR. “They know what they signed up for.”

A Long Island man has been arrested for having sexual contact with two horses, cops said Thursday.
Steven Errante was busted Wednesday after cops determined he allegedly had inappropriate contact with the horses on Aug. 25 and Sept. 4 at a stable in his home town of Dix Hills.
In 2013, Errante, 30, was arrested for beating his Labrador mix named Chantel Girl with a bat.
The dog suffered skull and facial fractures and broken front legs. She had to be euthanized.
Ark. woman arrested after allegedly shooting teen
In addition to beating the dog, Errante also broke his own father’s ribs with a baton in 2013, according to authorities.
He was ordered to add his name to Suffolk County’s Animal Abuse Offender Registry.
He failed to do so and cops opened an investigation. During the probe, they uncovered the alleged sexual abuse of the horses.
Errante is charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with animals and failure to register as an animal abuse offender.

A teacher at a Louisiana daycare was arrested for biting down on the face of one of her 2-year-old students.
Heather Marcotte, a 28-year-old teacher at Northlake Christian School, was taken into custody Wednesday after a parent made a complaint last week, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said.
The unidentified parent told officers that her young son had come home from school with a red mark on his cheek.
An administrator told the worried mother that Marcotte claimed she "left the mark on the child when her mouth accidentally hit his face," though the sheriff's office said the teacher later admitted to biting the child when she became frustrated with him.
Former teacher guilty of raping and killing 10-year-old girl
She was fired after the biting, and now faces a count of felony cruelty to a child, a charge that can carry up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
Northlake Christian's website says its Early Learning Center takes children as young as six-weeks old and charges $7,600 in tuition a year.
