Officer plotted to blackmail wife; she plotted his murder

STROUDSBURG, Pa. — A Pennsylvania police officer has pleaded guilty to a plot to blackmail his wife over having sex with a 14-year-old boy while she has pleaded guilty to plotting to kill her husband.

Keith Transue, a Bushkill Township officer, pleaded guilty last week to misdemeanor criminal coercion, and Robin Transue pleaded guilty to felony solicitation to commit aggravated assault and statutory sexual assault. The Mount Pocono residents, both 43, are scheduled for sentencing March 20.

Authorities in Monroe County said in court documents that Robin Transue told an informant her husband threatened to expose her 2010 relationship with the boy if she left him. Prosecutors say she suggested several ways to kill her husband, including a drug overdose or a hunting accident.

"Mrs. Transue freely talked about arranging for her husband's murder," District Attorney Michael Mancuso said. "All kinds of potential death scenarios were discussed."

Prosecutors said Keith Transue failed to report the abuse when he learned about it, as he was legally obligated to do as a police officer.

"Transue was using his wife's crime to keep her from leaving or divorcing him. This in turn was essentially the motive for Robin soliciting Keith's murder," Mancuso said.

The police department placed Keith Transue on leave after the charges were filed, and Police Chief Mike McLouth said Wednesday said the officer had submitted a resignation letter.

Mancuso praised an informant who came forward and cooperated with police, saying he "likely prevented a homicide and also brought to light a sordid history of sexual assault and criminal coercion."

Little Rock Police are investigating a report of a jogger who allegedly pooped near the cars of a number of residents in the area.

Tiffany Mattzela toldArkansas Mattersshe was going off to breakfast last Saturday when she found a not so pleasant surprise near her car.

She at first thought it was left behind by a dog, but when she reviewed security camera footage with her fiancé, they learned it was left by a person.

“When we did, we found it was not a dog,” Mattzela explained. “It was a person who had been jogging down the street, ran up between our two cars, defecated, and ran away.”

Woman jogger dubbed ‘The Mad Pooper’ wanted by police

Mattzela posted her story online, writing she wanted the “poop"-etrator” to come clean up what he left behind.

Instead, the jogger came back on Wednesday and left his mark a second time.

Mattzela said when she went outside that morning she found a soiled piece of paper towel tucked into the handle of her car door.

“I mean, it was vile,"Mattzela said. “The neighborhood’s calling him the S--- Bandit.”

Since posting the story on social media, Mattzela says a number of her Hillcrest neighbors have responded claiming they also have fallen victim to the same jogger.

Mattzela has since filed a criminal mischief report with police and she wants to see the pooper brought to justice.

"I hope they find him," she told Arkansas Matters. "And I hope he finds some help."

Leechburg Police Chief Arrested, Charged With Underage Solicitation

January 5, 2018 at 4:36 pm

Filed Under:Armstrong County, Leechburg, Local TV, Marty Griffin, Paul Martino, Police Chief Michael Diebold

Follow KDKA-TV: Facebook | Twitter

LEECHBURG (KDKA) — The police chief of Leechburg is being charged with felony counts of underage solicitation.

The state Attorney General’s Office is charging Chief Michael Diebold with unlawful contact with a minor and criminal attempt to commit involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

michael-diebold.jpg

(Source: Westmoreland County Prison)

“This is extremely startling,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said. “To arrest the chief of police of Leechburg for unlawful contact with a minor and criminal intent to commit involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, both of which are felonies, it’s incredibly troubling.”

According to the AG’s Office, Diebold had been communicating online under the name “KuteCop4You” with an undercover agent who was posing as a 14-year-old girl.

The criminal complaint says Diebold, 40, placed an ad on a social media app back in September titled “Dominate male police officer seeks fun, discreet, sub playmate.” That’s when investigators zeroed in on him. He’s accused of sending the agent inappropriate photos and asked to meet with the girl during their communications.

When he arrived at that meeting place, the Sheetz in Lower Burrell, on Friday afternoon, agents with the AG’s Child Predator Unit moved in and took him into custody.

“Understand that this man, this police chief was going there, to that location, with some hope of having a sexual relationship with a minor,” said Shapiro.

According to the criminal complaint, police say during questioning Diebold admitted to being the person who was communicating with the purported child. They also say he “admitted that he knew that sexual contact with a 14-year-old child was wrong and illegal and that his life was totally over.”

Agents with the Attorney General’s Office also raided Diebold’s property on Friday, and collected possible evidence.

In a press release, Shapiro said: “This case is particularly heinous because the perpetrator is a public official, sworn to serve and protect the community. We have a zero tolerance policy for the sexual abuse of children and my office will prosecute any offender to the fullest extent of the law, no matter who they are.”

Last summer, Diebold lost part of his arm in a fireworks accident. He was in the hospital for several weeks before being released in July.

The community rallied around him and raised thousands of dollars for his medical expenses.

He and the borough had just reached an agreement last month for his return to duty.

Diebold was arraigned Friday night on both felony charges.

An all-girls Catholic school in Kensington has fired a substitute teacher after learning of his activity in the white nationalist movement.

Greg Conte, a former substitute teacher and field hockey coach at Academy of the Holy Cross, is the full-time director of operations for a think tank led by white nationalist Richard Spencer, according to a Splinter article. He has joined Spencer during demonstrations in Charlottsville, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., the article stated.

Conte had been using the pseudonym “Greg Ritter” in his white nationalist activities. The academy learned in late October about of his ties with the movement, the school’s president wrote Thursday in a message to parents. Kathleen Ryan Prebble, the academy’s president and CEO, didn’t immediately notify parents of the situation and wrote Thursday that students had started hearing about the incident over social media.

“The information they are receiving is accurate, including his admission that he was fired from Holy Cross immediately after his affiliation with the ‘alt-right’ came to my attention,” she wrote.

She told parents she’d investigated Conte’s interactions with students and found no evidence that he’d tried to push his philosophy while at the academy.

“It appears that at the time he was focused on maintaining an appropriate persona for our school environment,” Prebble wrote.

Conte did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.

White nationalists generally believe in white supremacy and support enforced racial segregation. Prebble said the academy sees white nationalism as a racist movement that is in conflict with the school’s values.

The National Policy Institute, the think tank where Conte reportedly works, appears on a Southern Poverty Law Center list of hate groups.

In a phone interview Friday, Prebble said the allegations about Conte’s involvement with white nationalism came to her attention in late October when a few, concerned people contacted the school. The school looked into the allegations and fired Conte a couple of days later when Prebble found the claims were legitimate.

“Before his alternate identity was brought to my attention, we had absolutely no reason to think he was affiliated with a movement that was in direct opposition to our mission,” she said.

Prebble said Conte did not deny his affiliations when she confronted him.

Since Conte’s firing, he’s dropped the pseudonym in many cases and has spoken about his departure from the academy on a podcast he hosts with Spencer, according to Prebble. Recent articles by Splinter and Fortune detail Conte’s involvement with the National Policy Institute and the website Altright.com.

Prebble said Conte started coaching at the academy in August 2014 and later began substitute teaching. He received a small stipend for serving as a junior varsity field hockey coach and cross-country assistant coach, she said.

Asked why the school didn’t contact parents at the time of Conte’s firing, Prebble said that she believed her email Thursday “covered sufficiently this very sensitive matter” and that she would continue to answer questions from students and family members.

The school held a roughly 30-minute meeting Friday to talk about the situation and give students a chance to discuss their concerns. Prebble said she explained to students that the school’s decision to dismiss Conte had nothing to do with intolerance for varying political views.

“This is not about being conservative versus liberal. This is not about right-wing politics versus left-wing politics. It is a movement that embraces implicit or explicit racism,” she said. “It’s about extremism and hate, and that’s not who we are.”

She declined to describe how the school concluded that Conte’s views didn’t affect students.

The academy, founded 150 years ago by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, teaches about 470 students in grade 9 through 12. Prebble said the academy has a diverse student body, with about 43 percent self-identifying as non-white.

Police in Massachusetts allege a woman ditched her own mother’s funeral on Friday to break into her home and steal a safe filled with items worth $90,000.

Alyce Davenport, 30, and Diron Conyers, 27, both appeared in court Monday and faced seven counts related to the alleged robbery, the Telegram & Gazette reported.

Charges were filed against the two after Thomas Baillet, Davenport’s mother’s fiancé told police someone broke into his house during the funeral of Audra Johnson – Davenport’s mother – and stole the safe from a locked bedroom.

Court documents reportedly state Davenport had been suspected of the theft, and was recently kicked out of the house due to her drug habits.

Police found a car linked to Davenport on the side of a road with the safe in the trunk, which Davenport allegedly slammed shut when officers tried to peek inside.

Legal documents, $5,000 in coins, a bag of knives and jewelry were found elsewhere in the car.

Inside of a motel room Davenport and Conyers were staying at, police discovered cocaine, in addition to “jewelry, keys, cellphones, a real estate contract relating to the address from which the safe had been stolen, and a checkbook reported stolen from a home” in Connecticut, the Gazette reported.

Police reportedly knew who Davenport was, as she’s “also a suspect in the theft of life insurance checks paid to her brother after their father’s death.”

Davenport, with a history of larceny, identity theft and forgery, was held on $15,000 bail, according to the Gazette. Conyers, who has a criminal history that includes armed robbery, was held without bail due to another court warrant.

Both are scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on Feb. 6.

A Manhattan criminal defense lawyer landed behind bars over accusations he swiped a bag full of cash from a traveler at Newark Liberty Airport, police said Saturday.

Henry Weil, 62, allegedly snagged the unattended bag from a checkpoint screening area at Terminal C inside the New Jersey airport about 9:15 a.m. Friday.

After taking $700 cash and a Visa gift card valued at $130, he crumpled the bag into a ball and threw it in a corner, according to Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

Weil, who practices criminal defense and immigration law out of his office on Broadway in Chinatown, claims he intended to find the property’s rightful owner.

Louise Anna Turpin, left, and David Allen Turpin Credit Riverside County Sheriff's Department

17-year-old girl who said she was being held captive by her parents in her home about two hours southeast of Los Angeles escaped on Sunday and alerted the authorities, who then rescued her 12 siblings — several of whom were found shackled to their beds and malnourished — the authorities said on Monday.

The 17-year-old used a cellphone she found in the home to call the police with her startling claim about her siblings being held against their will, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said. Officers found the girl’s 12 siblings — who range in age from 2 to 29 — in the foul-smelling house in Perris, Calif., living in the dark without access to adequate food or water, the department said.

Some of the children were restrained with chains and padlocks. “The parents were unable to immediately provide a logical reason why their children were restrained in that manner,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

The officers did not immediately recognize that seven of the 13 siblings were adults because they were emaciated. The sheriff’s office said that the 17-year-old girl who called 911 looked to be 10 years old.

Their parents, David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49, were both arrested on nine counts each of torture and child endangerment. They were being held in jail with bail set at $9 million each, the authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Department did not say how long the siblings may have been held captive.

Sheriff’s deputies provided food and water to the siblings, who claimed they were starving. They were later transported to hospitals for treatment. Their conditions were not released.

California records show that Mr. Turpin had received state approval to run a private school, the Sandcastle Day School, at the family’s home, a one-story stucco house in a subdivision built in recent years. The school enrolled six students this year, in grades six through 12, and Mr. Turpin was listed as the principal.
16xp-captive2-master675-v3.jpg

In a neighborhood where residents often walk outside and children run around a nearby playground, the Turpins stood out for never being seen, neighbors said. Dennis Cooke, who lives two blocks from their home, said he saw Mr. Turpin once but never the siblings.

Roberto Gomez, who lives in the house behind the Turpins, said the family kept lights on inside the house at all hours but never seemed to come outside. Another neighbor, Julio Reyes, said that last year he saw teenagers mowing the family’s yard and helping put up Christmas decorations.

“They look pretty normal,” Mr. Reyes said. “Pretty normal house, they have nice cars. It’s just an appearance.”
Perris, about 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles, is one of the largest cities in Riverside County, which became an emblem of bankruptcy and foreclosure during the depths of the recent recession. Known as the Inland Empire, the region has rebounded in recent years.

The couple filed for bankruptcy in California in 2011, stating in court documents that they owed between $100,000 and $500,000 in debt. At that time, Mr. Turpin worked as an engineer at Northrop Grumman, the defense contractor, and earned $140,000 annually, records show. Ms. Turpin’s occupation was listed as a homemaker.

Their bankruptcy lawyer, Ivan Trahan, said in a phone interview on Monday night that the parents spoke often about their children. They had 12 at the time of their bankruptcy, Mr. Trahan said, adding that the children never visited his law office.

“They spoke about them highly,” Mr. Trahan said.

He said Ms. Turpin told him that the family loved Disneyland in Southern California and visited often.

“We remember them as a very nice couple,” he said. “This is shocking.”

The Turpins moved to California from Texas around 2010, the parents wrote on Facebook, after Mr. Turpin returned to work for Northrop Grumman. On a family photo of the parents and 12 children (the youngest had not yet been born) posted on their Facebook page in 2011, a friend asked if all the children pictured were theirs.

“Yes all 12 are our children and we are very proud of them,” the Turpins replied.
