Second story I've seen like this in 3 months. The other guy couldn't use his time off b4 it expired. He left and they called his family and emergency contacts to try to get him back b/c they were getting fined like crazy for being down

He offered to fix the issue for 10k

They declined and racked up millions(?) in fines and fees
Wow at that last 2 sentences
I was just watching Pulp Fiction last night and the conversation between Marsellus Wallace and Butch comes to mind

"Pride...it only hurts...it never helps."

That company was willing to lose Millions rather than admit they fucked up and pay the guy 10,000 he was asking to right the ship. Ego

American workers are starting to wake up to the fact that the boss needs them more than they need the boss.

In fact, every boss wants to hold their title in 5 years needs to sit down with a pen and paper, right every employee's name down on the page, and seriously ask themselves "what would happen if this person quit?"
I'll try to find the story, but I was reading something about 8 months ago about this dude being the only one at his gig that could do what he does, so he BEGGED his boss to let him train a back-up, and he was turned down, because his boss didn't want to spare an employee for training. Well, the guy's dad dies and he has to leave town for the funeral and to help his mom settle some affairs. He's getting ready to deliver the eulogy, and his boss calls to ask him how to do the thing what he refused to let him train someone to do. He told him that he's getting ready to deliver his dad's eulogy and that he couldn't talk right now. The boss says, "Yeah, yeah, I know, but I need to ask you a few questions.", and he said he hung up on his boss and put his phone on vibrate.

He said his boss called about 5 more times, thrice during the eulogy! He said he finally talked to his boss hours later and reminded him of how he refused to let him train someone to be his back-up. He said his boss didn't even acknowledge what he said to him, but instead asked him to cut his trip short because they need him. Dude he said cut the trip short, went into the office to quit, explained why he was quitting to HR, and left town again to finish helping his mom.

Their whole race is running on auto pilot.

Reminds me of the meme where the worker tells the ceo "Nice car"

And he replies if u continue to work hard I'll have another one next year

MF'rs getting paid and don't even know what the pple below him do sometimes
You don't think they know? It's why they hate the glass door website, unions, and employees talking about wages. It's probably why lunchroom's always had the news on -- to keep you busy and you won't be able to focus on the exploitation.

Nice story...but it sounds like some parts have been left out and other parts are over exaggerated bullshit to me. No multi-national company with multi-billion dollar revenues on book who has a product line so crucial that it would lose that much money in a matter for minutes because a fucking printer or workstation went down, is not going to be dependent on a a single point of failure such as (1) IT Specialist for (3) production plants. And I don't care how far out in BFE the place he was working is located, that shit ain't happening.

Second.. Even though he worked in "right to work" state, just as I do.. A company making that kind of revenue is not going to set themselves up for a lawsuit like that by initiating retaliatory actions like writing you up AFTER you've submitted your resignation. If you are working 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, they already know they are in serious violation of multi labor laws already and are not going to pour gas on that fire like that.

It all very well maybe true, as crazier things have happened...but to me it sounds like bullshit.
Bro, two things:

1) You forget that most people in most jobs do not know their rights, so they're not going for the lawsuit they probably could have and would likely win.

Most jobs know this and do whatever the fuck they want knowing that nine out of ten people aren't going to pursue it farther than whining and complaining

2) you also forget that arrogance, ignorance, and spite that Jobs have towards someone leaving.

I'll give you three instances that are absolutely true, two of which I witnessed personally.

2A)
the Environmental Management Services secretary Marsha took a day off one day but I happened to see her in the hallway on the other side of the hospital. She told me not to tell anyone she was here.

She was dressed up and I asked her why and she said she had an interview to be the secretary for another department

She ended up getting the job and the department head Roger Katon, a racist George W. Bush-type veteran (his parents had money, so instead of going to Nam, he got stationed stateside while middle and lower class people had to go to Vietnam.

The day she gave her two week notice, Roger walking to the office, gave her one of his fake Smiles with no teeth, you know that white people smile, went into his office slammed the door and called up Marsha's new boss and said very loudly so she could hear "How dare you fucking hire that lazy fucking bitch"

***

2B) I got a promotion to a different area and tried to give my 2 week notice. Roger told my new boss that he couldn't afford to spare me so they could keep me for two pay periods instead of one.

During that last month I was harassed constantly. I typically had the freedom in my job to work as I saw fit.

I chose to work really hard early so the last part of the day was lax. Management HATED to see me chilling for the last part of the day but there was literally nothing that needed to be done.

I didn't come in at exactly 6am everyday as I was supposed to. I knew it was wrong, but I I knew needed to be done and the time that it needed to be done by. All of my customers were always happy because I overstocked them so they weren't out of supplies by at 6 a.m.

My last month the night shift supervisor was in my office at at 6 a.m. specifically to write me up if I was late

My last day I was written up 3 times for bullshit, and one of the supervisors told me later that Roger told her to write me up or he was going to write her up and suspend her

They were trying to fire me before I could get promoted to the other department. This is the same job that try to take my position away when I got back from deployment and make me a janitor.

I had to go to the Department of Labor to get my position back. The Department of Labor told them to give me back my job by the end of the day or else.

( imagine that, a veteran at a government job having to fight for his position back when he got back from deployment from the war)
***

2C) Do you remember the story of the auto body shop who paid his employee in pennies

A Georgia auto repair shop owner is accused of retaliating against a former employee by paying the worker's final wages, $915, in the form of more than 91,000 oil-soaked pennies.

These are all examples of spiteful, retaliatory tactics jobs do when a person is leaving. And often the people don't sue, they just want to leave

Too bad actual workers don't stick together and fight for fair wages. But this outcome was far worse. There's more than enough money around where everybody can be winners. Losing 40 mil proves management's hard line stances on salaries helps no one.

Losing 40 mil verses a raise for one person just didn''t make good financial since. They're now paying for that asinine decision.

Proof this it's not even about smart business decisions and more so just wanting to dictate what people make.

I mean he should have known that he was not going to get paid the SAME as the boss.
He didn't even need to ask them shit. He needed to MOVE. Which he did.

My point is don't even waste your time in a no win scenario.

He also explained how he was taken advantage of and didn't know any better.

It was his first contract job...only I.T. work he could find in a small town. Other work was fast food, retail cashier etc paying 7.50 an hour or whatever.

His boss used to be his coworker and made 93k a year while he made 29k doing the same job.

He asked for the same money and noted he was tech for 3 factories while the boss (his old coworker) made 93 to service 1 factory at the time.

They came back with an 800.00 a year raise and said they couldn't afford any more.

I work in IT and had my boss tell my company that she didnt want me onsite anymore. I have found four new jobs this week that give me a bump in pay. This is why I got into IT. Please dont treat IT workers like shit, you will pay. There is a shortage of good workers.
What certs do you have?

They hooked him in with the ole...accept this paltry salary to prove yourself and then we will hire you on full time for real money.
You can't assign all of the blame to the employer. The employee sometimes remain in situations that isn't good for them.

I used to get upset at nurses who only worked at one place. I learned pretty early in my career that switching employers was like giving yourself a raise. Some years I switched employers more than 5 times. And when you run into these nurses you sometimes wonder if they're getting underpaid. Sometimes I feel like a free man talking to someone who couldn't even fathom Juneteeth.

I remember being a student nurse at a local hospital and the registered nurse couldn't even put in a catheter. I remember running into her at a whole foods and shorty had the big body benz. Little 4’10 white girl driving a $100k car and couldn't even do her job.

I can't copy and paste. You gotta click to read. Helluva story

Redditor u/slw_motion_trainwrck opened up about how he quit his low-paying, exhausting IT job at a major multinational company… and how the day after he left work, the business lost $40 million. In three very extensive posts on r/antiwork, the redditor detailed exactly how this happened, and the read is absolutely riveting.

I enjoyed the part when everyone was calling him and he just sat back, watched and laughed. Karma is a bitch, and he got them back with, how you say..."NO VASELINE."

The fact he accepted a $29K a year IT job sounds like a bunch of:bullshit:

He explains. Small town in the south where most people made minimum wage and it was his first IT job. $14 an hour (if he was working normal hours) would actually be pretty good as the cost of living is totally different.

I grew up in a similar place and just looked up the cost of apartments. I'm paying $1400 for a 1br in a older joint made in the 80s I can almost get 3 different apartments of the same quality for that at home.

We had some old heads at me company when I first started that were bring the company down not paying people a fare wage. The then owner and his son tasked me with get the company organized and trouble changes needed. Put Military and yellow belt training to work got rid of the dead weight got people paid like their suppose to be paid my reward went from SR System Admin to Executive Assistant. That right to work shit is straight up :bullshit: greedy companies use that shit to fuck employees over while they stay rich.

As a senior supervisor in my Healthcare organization I am real big on overlap and cross training. For example, I pay my nurses to get trained in all of the programs we have so that no one nurse can ever hold me hostage or hinder a program. The training is not optional. It's a part of on-board and continued workforce improvement."

Regarding pay, I offer what I can without breaking the bank. My job requires that I maintain a healthy DCOH. I tell all my employees, if you find a higher paying job, I encourage you to consider it. But, be sure to weigh the options. I offer 12 paid holidays, 10 sick days, and 10 vacation days. But, you will have to be efficient and productive as long as you stay.
