Demonstration in downtown Anchorage targets Ferguson grand jury decision
Alaska Dispatch News
A small, peaceful protest unfolded in downtown Anchorage on Wednesday evening in response to a St. Louis grand jury’s decision to not indict a white police officer in the Ferguson, Mo., shooting death of an unarmed black teenager.
The protesters gathered in front of the federal courthouse. Some stood on a nearby corner with signs reading “Black Lives Matter” and “His name was Michael Brown,” for the 18-year-old shot by police officer Darren Wilson.
Protests have occurred across the country since Monday's decision. “The fact that the world is talking about Ferguson means we’re being loud enough,” said Brandon Hill, a 28-year-old Anchorage resident.
