About 17 years ago I went to see his house in Soweto. Before white people went there much. They had to build a concrete wall down the middle of the living room because the South African police used to have fun by going up on the hill opposite and taking pot shots at them though the window. Then about 5 years ago I went to Robben Island and saw the tiny cell in which he spent all those years. You wouldn't keep a dog in it.
He had so many reasons to hate, but never did. A truly great man. Sadly, there aren't any more great men following behind.
