I'm surprised nobody has pointed out that this new line-up is more diverse. That is clearly part of it-- they are (somewhat) de-whitemaning the lineup.

glad for Chiney
but one thing i noticed with WNBA players they quick as hell to punt on WBNA seasons.

Mya Moore effectively gave up her career to help exonnerate the brother who was wrongly convicted? A few are punting on this season because of health issues/COVID? And they regularly skip the WNBA season to take a break after their overseas season. I couldnt imagine an athelete in the Big 4 sports who is healthy and decided to skip a season and not get paid.

I dont blame em cause with WNBA they barely get paid/treated like professional athletes.
Chiney might be one of the most famous chicks in the WNBA (at least to me because she is heavily featured on ESPN) and she aint even the best ball player on her team or family

Chiney really don't need the WNBA at this point.
She got that ESPN and endorsement money from Adidas.
She was probably barely making six figures in the WNBA.
This year especially with them playing in the "bubble" with all the shit going on.
Some of the WNBA players are already complaining about the accommodations in the bubble.
Ain't worth it.

Same here. I've never watched a WNBA game in my life.
Maybe the very first game they had when it was first formed, just out of curiosity.
Their fan base (the little they have) seems to be primarily younger girls that play ball and the LGBTQ crowd.

Mike Greenberg returns, 'Golic & Wingo' out of morning show slot amid ESPN Radio shakeups

Longtime ESPN Radio host Mike Greenberg is returning to the airwaves as part of a revamped lineup of sports talk programming at the "Worldwide Leader" beginning next month.

Greenberg, who co-hosted ESPN Radio's flagship morning show for 18 years, will have his own show from noon to 2 p.m. ET as part of the new lineup that debuts Aug.17. Greenberg will continue his role on ESPN's mid-morning TV show, "Get Up."

“In radio there is an intimacy in the relationship with the audience that is different from any other medium,” Greenberg said. “I have always enjoyed that and am really looking forward to rediscovering it.”

Meanwhile, Mike Golic – Greenberg's former partner on the "Mike & Mike" show – will leave the morning timeslot as his "Golic & Wingo" show with Trey Wingo makes way for a new program featuring former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, NBA analyst Jay Williams and "SportsCenter” anchor Zubin Mehenti, weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. ET.

The show will be simulcast on ESPN2 from 6-8 a.m. and ESPNEWS from 6-10 a.m.

Also joining the radio lineup is ESPN TV host Max Kellerman ("First Take"), who will make his radio debut with "The Max Kellerman Show" from 2-4 p.m ET.

Two-time WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike will be joined by ESPN Radio’s Mike Golic Jr. in the afternoons.

Sarah Spain and Jason Fitz return to the air in the evenings and ESPN Radio veteran Freddie Coleman will team with football sideline reporter Ian Fitzsimmons at night.

“Our new lineup will provide sports fans informative and engaging content throughout the week from hosts who all have radio experience,” said ESPN executive vice president Norby Williamson. “They know how to connect with fans and keep them invested in the programming."

Mike Greenberg, who co-hosted one of the most successful sports talk radio shows in history for 18 years, will return to host The Mike Greenberg Show from noon-2 p.m. ET.

“In radio there is an intimacy in the relationship with the audience that is different from any other medium,” Greenberg said. “I have always enjoyed that and am really looking forward to rediscovering it.”

All hosts will also appear across ESPN’s TV and digital shows, podcasts and more to further compelling, informative and entertaining discussions on key topics for fans throughout the day. All ESPN Radio shows will feature newsmakers and topical sports and celebrity guests in addition to fan interaction via calls and on social media.

Our listeners will hear diverse perspectives on key topics from some of the most talented, knowledgeable and contemporary voices in the industry.”

David Roberts, ESPN senior vice president, production, added, “This lineup and approach underscores our commitment to expanding the scope and impact of some of our industry’s most versatile voices throughout the day and night”

Keyshawn, Jay and Zubin: 6 – 10 a.m.
The schedule begins with the premiere of ESPN Radio’s new morning show, Keyshawn, Jay and Zubin, from 6-10 a.m. NFL Live analyst and Super Bowl Champion Keyshawn Johnson will co-host, alongside NBA and college basketball analyst Jay Williams and SportsCenter anchor Zubin Mehenti. The trio will discuss the morning’s top stories and overnight developments with their own perspective and analysis. Johnson – who has headlined a morning show for 710AM ESPN in Los Angeles since 2016 – will regularly appear on Get Up and First Take. Williams – who is regularly heard as a guest across ESPN Radio’s studio show lineup – will continue his role on NBA Countdown and appear across the network’s TV studio programming. Mehenti has been a consistent weekend voice on ESPN Radio in recent months and will also continue to host select editions of SportsCenter going forward.

The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz: 10 a.m. – Noon
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz will follow from 10 a.m.-noon. The show has been part of the national ESPN Radio weekday lineup since 2015 and features Dan Le Batard – host of Highly Questionable and the South Beach Sessions podcast – and Jon “Stugotz” Weiner – host of the Stupodity podcast – connecting with listeners through their unique blend of self-deprecating humor, insightful guests, and thoughtful conversation. Given the show also has a very engaged digital following, Le Batard will continue to expand his reach in the podcast space through the Le Batard and Friends Network.

The Mike Greenberg Show: Noon – 2 p.m.
Host of ESPN’s morning show Get Up, Mike Greenberg makes his highly anticipated return to ESPN Radio. The show will regularly feature his unique take on many of the trending topics from that morning’s Get Up. Greenberg previously co-hosted Mike & Mike for almost two decades and was inducted in to the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2018.

The Max Kellerman Show: 2 – 4 p.m.
Featured commentator on ESPN’s marquee morning debate show First Take and host of Max on Boxing Max Kellerman will make his national ESPN Radio debut with The Max Kellerman Show from 2-4 p.m. Kellerman will regularly expand on the most-timely debates from that day’s edition of First Take from his point of view, further discussions on the latest boxing news and much more. Kellerman previously hosted shows for ESPN Radio in both the Los Angeles and New York markets.

Chiney and Golic Jr.: 4 – 7 p.m.
Two-time WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike will be joined by ESPN Radio’s Mike Golic Jr. from 4-7 p.m. for Chiney and Golic Jr. The duo – who regularly contribute to ESPN’s digital shows surrounding major events and the network’s additional studio programming – will engage with fans while discussing topics of the day and looking ahead at the night’s events. Ogwumike will also regularly appear on SportsCenter, Get Up, First Take, WNBA and NBA programming and provide analysis for men’s college basketball.

Ogwumike said, “I cherish this moment and opportunity, now more than ever. To co-host a daily, national platform is a reflection of ESPN’s understanding that voices like mine matter. I am thrilled to represent this rising generation alongside my new teammate Golic Jr., a close friend and exceptional talent.”

Spain and Fitz: 7 – 9 p.m.

From 7-9 p.m., award-winning writer for espnW and ESPN Radio host Sarah Spain – who also appears on the network’s Highly Questionable and Around the Horn – will be reunited with former co-host Jason Fitz – who will also continue as a leading commentator for ESPN’s digital shows and special event programming. Spain and Fitz – which the duo previously hosted together from January 2018-May 2019 – will pick up where it left off, entertaining listeners with insightful conversation on the day’s trending topics and under-the-radar stories.

Freddie and Fitzsimmons: 9 p.m. – 1 a.m.

ESPN Radio Reshuffle: ‘Golic & Wingo’ Out, Mike Greenberg Makes Return

By Brian Steinberg

Joe Faraoni / ESPN Images
ESPN said it would cancel its flagship morning radio program, “Golic & WIngo,” while bringing Mike Greenberg, half of the team that helped the Disney sports-media giant carve a bigger business in the audio world, back to the medium as part of a reworking of its national lineup.
Greenberg, who spent 17 years with co-host Mike Golic on the morning radio program “Mike & Mike,” will keep his duties on the ESPN mid-morning TV program, “Get Up,” which he has helped anchor since the Spring of 2018. But he will also lead a new two-hour radio show that airs between noon and 2 p.m. weekdays. His former partner, Mike Golic will leave mornings along with Trey Wingo. The pair has hosted their program since November of 2017.

“Our new lineup will provide sports fans informative and engaging content throughout the week from hosts who all have radio experience,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN’s executive vice president and executive editor, production, in a statement. “They know how to connect with fans and keep them invested in the programming. Our listeners will hear diverse perspectives on key topics from some of the most talented, knowledgeable and contemporary voices in the industry.”

The new weekday schedule, which kicks off Monday, August 17, can be heard on SiriusXM, and ESPN venues. Many of the programs will be simulcast on either ESPN2 or ESPNEWS. The hosts are expected to make appearances regularly on programs made for ESPN’s TV and digital outlets, as well as on podcasts. The radio programs, ESPN said, will feature newsmakers and topical sports and celebrity guests as well as exchanges with fans via calls and social media.

Former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson; NBA analyst Jay Williams; and “SportsCenter” anchor Zubin Mehenti will replace “Golic & Wingo” as the lead-off to ESPN’s morning audio schedule. “Keyshawn, Jay and Rubin” will between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. discuss the top stories of the morning and overnight. Johnson, an analyst on ESPN’s “NFL Live” who was part of a championship Tampa Bay Buccaneers team, will also make appearances on “Get Up” and “First Take.” He has hosted a Los Angeles radio program for ESPN since 2016.

Dan Le Batard and Jon “Stugotz” Weiner will continue the program they have anchored since 2015 between 10 a.m. and noon. After Greenberg’s show, Max Kellerman from “First Take” will make his national radio debut with “The Max Kellerman Show” at 2 p.m. He is expected to revisit some of the best debates from the TV show on which he appears in late morning and also examine the world of boxing.

Two-time WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike will be joined by ESPN Radio’s Mike Golic Jr. between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., when they will examine the events of the coming evening. Sarah Spain and Jason Fitz will revive “Spain & Fitz,” which previously aired between January 2018 and May 2019, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Freddie Coleman and football sideline reporter and analyst Ian Fitzsimmons will end the day with “Freddie and Fitzsimmons” between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.

i fucks we Greeny and think he can pretty much co-host/lead any show.
but he a pass 1st pg to use a sports analogy. He can make others better, set the table and put ppl in the best position to succeed. But i dont see him carrying a weekly 2 radio slot by himself. Doing radio everyday with no one to bounce off is fucking tough. Its even tougher if your persona is as bland as Greeny's. What made Mike & Mike great was how different they were. What makes Get-Up great is how the show goes from subject to subject/guest to guest with Greeny stirring the ship. How does that make for great radio?

i have also been critical of Simmons and his staff but the bolded is a stretch to say the least. I've never heard anyone mention anything about the players background or parents. Usually they shitting on dumb GMs and my Knicks

i do find it very problematic how he loves black sports, black entertainment and black celebs but all his key contributors and friends are white guys.
They bent over backwards patting themselves on the back regarding their diversity when almost everyone that works there looks like him, thinks like him and comes from a similar background.

shit i never noticed that but thats true
almost every basketball podcast features white middle aged men

i think this goes back to the issue in sports in general. Black ppl are good to play & dominate but outside of the lines everyone is usually a white man (owners, gm, coaches, journalist, etc). But isnt that representative of America.
Read some of his old draft day diaries, full of CAC rhetoric about black mothers and young men from impoverished backgrounds, Simmons is ok on some stuff but he can be kinda slick sometimes too with the rhetoric, people just like him more

I'll defer to you then. I only started following him right before Grantland kicked off. I dont recall him saying egregious since then

to me he simply a dude that talks the talk but doesn't walk it (which is true for so many white 'allies'). I would bet a week's salary he doesn't have black friends outside of work colleagues or celebs. To be far I dont have any friends outside of an acquaintance and a few work colleagues

Yesterday's Ringer NBA Show:

Bakari is joined by former NBA players Vince Carter and Antawn Jamison to talk about their respective NBA careers (8:15 ), Black fatherhood (22:29 ), Vince’s recent retirement (35:06 ), and player activism (46:07 ).

Once you see it, you can't unsee it. Deviations stand out like a Pride parade. Somehow it is rare to have three black people on one of these podcasts, even with two ex-players.

Today is Golic's last day on ESPN radio. They're having a whole family sendoff right now.

I'm going to miss Golic. on the radio, but according to USA Today:

"Golic will return to work as a college football analyst with the network. The 57-year-old held that role in his first 10 years at ESPN. Golic's contract was set to expire this year. Details of his role were not immediately provided by the network."

Hopefully his next Radio gig will work out better.

Yeah, I just found out today he's going to do college football (if there is a season).
I wonder if he'll stay past this year though.
I like him too, but everything has to come to an end eventually.
I think him and his son might be doing a podcast together.

ESPN NY radio adds Mike Greenberg, Max Kellerman in major lineup shift
By Andrew Marchand
August 3, 2020 | 6:47pm | Updated

In its competition with WFAN, ESPN New York has a new lineup, sliced up all day that adds big names, but crushes the continuity it had built in recent years that has helped its afternoon show become No. 1 in the market.

ESPN New York will add Mike Greenberg and Max Kellerman to its daily programming in the middle of this month, but, like when Mike Francesa returned to WFAN after his faux retirement, it now has too many hosts on-air and too many shows, which makes little radio sense in the long run.
The merry-go-round has 98.7 FM taking ESPN’s new national morning show of Keyshawn Johnson, Jay Williams and Zubin Mehenti from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., forgoing its final hour.

Rick DiPietro, Chris Canty and Dave Rothenberg will move up their time slot to 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., losing an hour. They will be followed by Bart Scott and Alan Hahn, who will be on from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., up two hours from their old slot.

For the second time, Scott has been involved in the joys of the radio business as he was part of the afternoon earthquake when Francesa un-retired at WFAN.

After Scott and Hahn, ESPN New York will air the second hour of Greenberg’s national show from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. before Kellerman’s first hour from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The aforementioned “The Michael Kay Show,” which supplanted Francesa atop the New York ratings with the help of a more locally focused lineup, will remain from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by Chris Carlin at night.

Greenberg and Kellerman both have New York roots, but their shows will be national, which may help the FAN as it builds post-Francesa.

big dummies
NY sports radio wanna hear local guys talk about local sports
the morning show always gets its ass kicked (national show) while the Kay show put an end to Francesa (local)
all the local programming is coming togther and top to bottom they have better shows than the WFAN

why mess a good thing up
why add names for the sake of adding names
history has shown that one man talk shows dont work outside of Mike's & Stephen A's later run.
why 2 big names like Greenie & Kellerman. Greenie has never been a local NY radio guy especially

Stephen A had a good run a radio but its tough to replicate that sucess

I aint even a Stephen A fan like that...

but I listened to that show when he FIRST cae on even got invited to a focus group (and then stopped for a long time cause he was cooning too much and between him and Mike I couldn't do it anymore)

I STILL don;t understand how WFAN gets away with basically a ALL WHITE ALL MALE damn near borderline clam rally 24/7

I mean Max had a show awhile back and it was kinda successful I think he will be better now as long as he doesn't do the hot take stiff

NY radio don't like that.

real talk?

I'd rather OG Mike & Mike than Greeny solo.

the WFAN has a woman on their midday show with someone called Moose.
when i turn it on she barely gets a word in

to be far ESPN NY doesnt have any women other than Anita Marks (not really a fan) and she is basically a super-sub
ESPN radio has more black on air talent but almost all of their on air talent are former athletes

yeah I know her

she had a major dust up with Dolan a few months ago when she had that show with Carlin and Bart Scott

and there is ONE other female voice always at night

WFAN gets a MAJOR pass for its no Black voices

ESPN NY is much better but to go and add TWO white guys? WTF?

I actually like Anita just cause she is DIFFERENT and actually KNOWS football.

Yeah I think putting the "fan" with the athlete thing is played the f*ck out.

And I actually LIKE most of the voices on there

but DAMN they can't have maybe a black woman and Black man show?

Or even 2 women or like a 2 Live Stus type show on there?

Latino Asian SOMETHING?

I know Key and Jay taking over the mornings so I should chill I guess.

Mike Greenberg delivers heartfelt speech in tribute to Mike Golic's ESPN Radio career
Charles Curtis

July 29, 2020 3:00 pm
The tributes continue to pour in to Mike Golic, who’s in his final week on ESPN Radio after spending over two decades on the air (again, I’ll remind you: he’ll still be with ESPN as a college football analyst).
His former partner on Mike and Mike, Mike Greenberg, used a couple of minutes on his show, Get Up!, to deliver his own tribute and it was terrific.
Greenberg split it into two parts, starting with Golic the father.
“In the earliest days of our partnership,” he said, I saw up close and personal what it looks like when you really put your family first. Every parent I know says their kids are their first priority, but not all of them live that way. Mike does. He lived that way every single day.”
Greenberg went on to say that made him a better father.
Then, he spoke about how Golic broke though as a broadcaster by first being an athlete.
“As a result, he didn’t just open a door for others, he built one,” he said. “There was no door before he came along. So Mike Golic changed the game for the hundreds of athletes who have followed in his footsteps, as well as the millions of sports fans who have enjoyed his company all these years.”

What Life Will Be Like Inside the NHL Bubbles

For nearly 18 years, Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg teamed up to host the wildly popular sports morning drive show "Mike & Mike." The show was a perfect mix of opinion and information, stuff that wasn't too heavy as you woke up to start your day. Golic, who spent eight years as a defensive lineman in the NFL, was a great contrast with Greenberg, who, well, was an accomplished journalist that didn't appear as though he ever stepped near a football field.
The contrast in life experiences and future goals, though, perhaps contributed to an ugly end to the show, with the two reportedly not on speaking terms - other than when broadcast to millions of listeners - in the waning months of the show.

Nearly three years after the show ended, have the two made up?

"It did not end well, that's pretty much been public," Golic said on Pardon My Take. "I was surprised it ended. The guy who was running ESPN at that time, John Skipper, ended it, and Greeny wanted to go do his own thing. So I was surprised it ended, and obviously it's been pretty documented that I didn't like the way that it ended. I would say, Greeny and I, we've seen each other since, but he does the morning show with "Get Up" and I was doing the morning show, so we would have really no interaction in the morning. We always lived far away from one another, and outside of Mike & Mike, we never really hung out. His kids weren't even born when we started the show, so we never really had a lot in common, and I think that's one of the things that helped make Mike & Mike work a little bit, is that we were so different. We have seen each other at Super Bowls - we're cordial, but that's pretty much it. In all honesty, there really isn't much of a relationship anymore. It's a shame, but that's just the way it goes sometimes and that's where it is now. Who knows what the future holds, but right now, that's pretty much where it is."

Mike & Mike ended November of 2017, with Greenberg departing to host ESPN's new morning studio show "Get Up." Golic stayed behind to continue hosting mornings with Trey Wingo, which ran through July of 2020. Golic, though he continues to hint at a desire to eventually return to morning radio, is returning to a role as a studio analyst for ESPN's coverage of college football. Greenberg continues to host "Get Up," and began a new radio program earlier this month that airs from 12-2 on ESPN Radio.

Golic's wife, Christine, says that Golic offered to be Greenberg's co-host again, but ESPN chose not to go in that direction.

Of the many reactions to Mike Golic no longer having a show on ESPN Radio after over two decades on the air with the Worldwide Leader (he’s still reportedly under contract with ESPN), there were many who called for Golic to be reunited with Mike Greenberg to bring back the legendary Mike & Mike.
According to Golic’s wife Christine, that was proposed by her husband.
A fan on Twitter replied to her tweet congratulating her son Mike Golic Jr. on his new show with Chiney Ogwumike, saying that Greenberg — who has a new show of his own in the revamped lineup — could use a cohost: “You know anyone?”
Here’s what Christine Golic said:

When Outkick the Coverage asked ESPN about the tweets, “a spokesperson declined to comment.”
It would have been amazing for fans to have the two Mikes back together again, but with Greenberg hosting Get Up! and now his own radio show, it seems like that ship has sailed.
