Are you just watching the episode.

I keep missing it I caught some stuff on the app...

So far it's just regular I don't like the mix

Beadle was good on sportsnation.

But that permanent smirk is just grating.

Greeny didn't want it like this you can tell...

He wants some type of Bob costas role

And this ain't it.

Jalen is Jalen.

Why is booger apparently on there every day?

And why is the show airing opposite other big name espn shows?

This should have been on in the afternoon.

Ok I watched almost a solid hour..

It's regular

To be fair it's new but why have a 4th host?

The 3 you got can't carry the show themselves?

And today was telling cause they decided to talk about the black jeopardy clowning white folk potato salad.

Jalen and d wood were visibly scared to say anything

Right there?

This show gonna suck, cause greeny was making his usual white guy using black slang schtick.

It reminds me of how they tried to do this on mike and Mike when they added the chairs aND molly.

And that voice is from the old I, Max show with Kellerman.

This is all well intentioned but unnecessary.

Just bring back his and hers attach it to sportsnation.

Make a daily sports game show

And a show concept I had where you actually TEACH the game. Each episode teaches you the basics of a sport like hockey... just the basics at first it would be great for kids women or just people unfamiliar with a particular sport, and episodes get more specific and deeper as the series continues with interviews and live action and computer demos.

See I think Greeny's White guy using Black guy schtick worked when he was paired with Chris Carter...

But yeah I agree with all of this...

I think it would work light years better as a 4:00 pm show. It would be perfect.. Maybe have it as your 4-5 pm Sport Center

and Bring Michael Smith and Jamele back on the air... It's killing me not to have His & Hers. It was so relevant and something that we as a people never saw before.. and now these two talented people are being wasted.

It’s impossible to spin ESPN’s ‘Get Up!’ ratings

@fonzerrillii

https://nypost.com/2018/04/11/its-impossible-to-spin-espns-get-up-ratings/

Former ESPN President John Skipper left the network with an expensive calamity amid a substance abuse issue, and critics have pounced on the early struggles of “Get Up!”

Skipper left ESPN last year when a drug dealer attempted to extort him by using his cocaine habit against him. But the wheels for his lavish program, “Get Up!,” were already in motion at the time of Skipper’s abrupt exit and the results haven’t been pretty.

“Get Up!” — which finally premiered on April 2 after months of buildup and delays — is hosted by Mike Greenberg, Michelle Beadle and former NBA star Jalen Rose. Skipper’s decision to build the morning show around Greenberg caused the breakup of the highly popular “Mike & Mike,” which was among the most successful programs in ESPN history and doubled as the face of ESPN Radio. The new morning show also replaced the morning edition of ESPN’s flagship “SportsCenter,” but “Get Up!” has failed to resonate with viewers thus far.

The first five episodes of “Get Up!” were down 15 percent compared to episodes of “SportsCenter” that ran in its timeslot the previous week, according to Nielsen. The highly promoted first episode averaged only 283,000 viewers and less than 200,000 tuned in by the third episode.

The first week finished with a dismal average viewership of 259,000 viewers. The first four episodes were down a whopping 24 percent compared to last year’s programming in the same time slot, according to media watchdog Awful Announcing.

“No matter how you measure it, ESPN’s new morning show ‘Get Up!’ is off to a poor start as far as ratings are concerned,” Philly.com’s Rob Tornoe wrote.

give the show a chance to succeed because of the massive investment, but “the numbers can’t be spun. They are low.”

“Get Up!” has also been panned in a variety of publications including The Daily Wire, Barstool Sports, The Big Lead, Sports Illustrated, Chicago Tribune and across social media.

“Get Up!” was in trouble before it even debuted, according to a feature in The Hollywood Reporter, headlined “ESPN Plans to Wake up Woke with New Morning Show.” The story not only implied that the show would dabble in politics but also revealed the salaries of the co-hosts. ESPN insiders were fuming at the story’s headline, and the network downplayed the role politics would play on the show.

ESPN has come under fire in recent years for a variety of situations that have left some viewers feeling that the network has a liberal bias. The show hasn’t taken a political stance thus far, but many critics feel that it’s only a matter of time.

Beadle and Rose have been outspoken about political and racial issues, while Greenberg typically sticks to sports. During a recent shareholder meeting for ESPN’s parent company, Disney, a frustrated investor told CEO Bob Iger that ESPN had become a “24/7 anti-Trump tirade channel.”

Sports Illustrated. The staffers let go included on-air talent, in addition to producers, executives and tech workers.

Author James Andrew Miller wrote “Those guys have all the fun: Inside the world of ESPN” and has continued to serve as an ESPN insider on various platforms. Skipper even selected Miller for a candid conversation in which he detailed the alleged extortion plot that resulted in the end of his tenure as president of the network. Miller recently appeared on The Athletic’s sports media podcast to discuss how new ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro should handle Skipper’s morning show.

“I think they need to get their act together by the beginning of football season,” Miller said. “It’s interesting to see what Pitaro’s patience level is going to be with it versus Skipper’s because Skipper gave birth to this.”

Miller predicted that changes won’t be made until next year’s Super Bowl “no matter what the ratings are,” and said that Skipper would have given “Get Up!” more room for error in the show’s early stages. Miller also said if the show fails, it could be a major roadblock the next time ESPN wants to lure talent from rival networks because executives won’t be able to promise success.

“I think there’s a lot at stake just in terms of the world of ESPN. This network needs to be able to deliver a successful show. It’s just as simple as that,” Miller said. “If you fail at doing this show, the ramifications are serious.”

There have been signs that “Get Up!” is still tinkering with its formula. The show only had one anticipated moment in its first week, when UFC President Dana White was in-studio for an interview regarding Conor McGregor’s recent outburst.

Some industry insiders feel ESPN will eventually blame Skipper for the show’s demise, as he would make an easy scapegoat who is no longer with the company.

ESPN did not immediately respond to request for comment.

The network's 'Get Up!' — hosted by Mike Greenberg, Michelle Beadle and Jalen Rose — will stick to sports (mostly).

Like many legacy media brands, ESPN is in the throes of a digital reinvention. It has a new president — Jimmy Pitaro, the former head of Disney's interactive media division — and a soon-to-launch OTT service. But on April 2, it will unveil a most traditional TV staple: a morning show.

Get Up!, which will air weekdays from 7 to 10 a.m., is hosted by Mike Greenberg (aka Greeny, the erstwhile partner of Mike Golic on ESPN Radio's long-running Mike & Mike), Michelle Beadle (outspoken feminist and sports/culture observer) and Jalen Rose (NBA journeyman turned sports media star). Its executive producer, Bill Wolff, returned to ESPN in 2017 after stints with the likes of Rachel Maddow and The View.

It's a big, costly swing for the network, including leasing a 21,000-square-foot studio and office complex in Manhattan's South Street Seaport and nearly $15 million in talent salaries ($6.5 million for Greenberg, 50; $5 million for Beadle, 42; and $3 million for Rose, 45, sources say).

:eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2:

Greenberg has worked with Rose on various ESPN platforms but never with Beadle, who returned to the network in 2014 after less than two years at NBC.

With the NYC studio under construction, the team has been rehearsing at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. "From the first second she started talking," says Greenberg, "the only thought going through my mind was, I better step up my game because she is ready."

Adds Wolff: "From the first time they sat down on a set it was like ok, we got it. Alright, it was a good calculation. But it’s nothing but a theory until you do it. But the casting, which is the most important thing, is right."

Get Up!'s NYC locale should widen its booking pool, and its six-seat anchor desk will make room for guests including regular appearances from ESPN NFL analysts Booger McFarland and Damien Woody. And the plan is to eventually have several additional shows and personalities based there including NBA Countdown, First Take, Around the Horn and Pablo Torre and Bomani Jones’ High Noon. Katie Nolan, who recently joined the network from Fox Sports.

Wolff and the show's hosts stress that the show's top mandate is to cover sports as the network pivots away from a broader cultural focus cultivated by former president John Skipper.

"What we need to be is flexible," says Greenberg. "Fans of sports have different needs on different days and we need to be all things to all people. There are days when we need to be the best news and information sports broadcast that there is; to cover a big story with the resources of ESPN. And then there are days that will lend themselves more to being stronger on analysis; the day after a particularly big game."

Still, "when players take a knee, then it deserves coverage and conversation," notes Wolff, referring to NFL players' national anthem protests. "If something political makes itself part of our world, we are dishonest and inauthentic if we don't discuss it."

Rose notes that he has "never been muzzled in any way" during his decade at ESPN, he says: "I appreciate the fact that I'm able to talk about more than what happened in last night's NBA game. And I think fans appreciate that. When our president tweets about sports, now he's fair game."

Ive been yelling this shit from the rooftops for years. No one fucks with Greenie like that. Espn desperately wants him to be the next bob costas but in reality he's just a radio guy. Then you add in beadle's ass who nobody likes and the early morning time slot and this shit was a failure to begin with. Now theyre hoping the nfl will save it. They sabatoged their own show, downgraded golic as if he's a nobody, while this show flops. I just want to see what they do with Greeny next. Theyre paying him all this dough and even when mike and mike wasnt a ratings hit.

I've watched a few episodes now...

there is a REAL tension between Beadle and Jalen...

I have no idea why but its obvious to me at least.

but WEIRD because I don't' notice it on the NBA show.

The chemistry is off.

I mean I predicted this shit and now they are stuck.....

The thing about morning sports shows is that people watch what they want to watch... you just can’t create viewers and the market is already thin..

Like Mike & mike fans... want shit like mike and mike... they don’t want bombastic shit. So when I wake up I turn to Golic & Wingo and then I flip to PFt for my football fix. I don’t want loud shit like Good morning football.

Yea Bro you are right. I gave it another shot and it just aint happening. too fuckin busy. I've settled into First Things first with Chris and Nick. Chris can be an ass, he has a personal relationship with every dam body , but I like Nick Wright he comes at shit from a different angle.

Yeap... that’s what ESPN doesn’t get. There is a reason why Mike & Mike worked and a reason why all of these shows are basically mike and mike and First Take ripoffs.

Now you have a market full of the same thing.. so why do you need to add another show.. especially if that show is a worse byproduct of a show that’s on ESPN news. And if you don’t have ESPNnews then you will find a show that suits you.

Like in the beginning I was all into sports center before you would watch clips online.... then I started mike and mike because I hated listening to sportscenter when Football and Basketball are over. Then it just became Mike & mike... then when mike and mike ended but Golic & Wingo immediately started after.. then I just kept my same routine. ESPN doesn’t get that dudes don’t like to change shit. Hell I don’t even like having to keep my channel on ESPNnews.

Like Cold Pizza tried to be a full on sports talk show and it was a failure. The only thing that came out of cold pizza was First Take.

But the afternoon... sports talk landscape is still barren. You have Around the Horn and a couple other shows... but I really think that Get up would be perfect in that 4 to 6 slot for the people that get off of work and want to hear just sports talk .. without the gimmicks.

Yeah ESPN deserves this for the shit they did to Michael and Jemele basically sabotaged them. They doubled up the fuck ups, splitting up Mike and Mike which was their headline morning program and now they lost that along with a failing morning show like Get Up.

Grenney was cool with Golic, that setup worked, but they're trying to push him as a headliner along with Beadle (who nobody likes) and that's a sinking ship. I don't even watch ESPN morning time anymore it's all first things first followed by Skip and Shannon cause I like Shannon Sharpe personality.

ESPN blew up their morning show presence and FS1 has a better morning debate product than First Take cause I'm tired of Stephen A.

I would assume because she has more years on TV and experience (that chick aint young, I don't believe the age posted)

and remember that power move to NBC she did tat damn near destroyed her career..

NBC gave her a TON of cash.

So I guess all that factored in

ESPN is stupid. It would have been much cheaper to just have a live AM Sportscenter. They shed all that salary last year to pay 3 people 14 million plus not including the price to lease the space they are using? Pure stupidity.

The Michael and Jemele shit can not be forgiven.... they had one of ESPNs most popular afternoon shows and the ESPN fucked them. The fact that ESPN isn’t willing to admit this is telling. Cause as soon as their contracts are up.... they are going to get scooped up with the quickness. My bet is going to be on bleacherreport since bleacherreport is going live now. They need headline talent and they can let them be themselves.

@playahaitian smart to rename the thread.

So @HNIC with Golic&wingo not showing today.. I’m taking the time to watch First things first.

It’s not bad.. I can see why you like it.

I guess my thing is that I prefer longer discussion topics. It seems like this show prefers the hot take style. But it’s not bad...

It appears that Get up actually stole a lot from First things first with the three person panel style.

Agreed...

@HNIC it's not bad.

A little too fast and hot take but not bad.

I watched get up and let me tell you, no beadle makes a huge difference

It works better with Jalen and Greeny, Rose has a very tense TV relationship with Beadle.

She been coming off very right wing all of sudden, I don't know if she is joking or just doing it for the show...

But I don't like it and now I really don't like her much anymore.

But get up could work...

for Mike AND Jemele.
