Agreed...

@HNIC it's not bad.

A little too fast and hot take but not bad.

I watched get up and let me tell you, no beadle makes a huge difference

It works better with Jalen and Greeny, Rose has a very tense TV relationship with Beadle.

She been coming off very right wing all of sudden, I don't know if she is joking or just doing it for the show...

But I don't like it and now I really don't like her much anymore.

But get up could work...

for Mike AND Jemele.
Thanks for the Tip, I'm watching the Get Up rerun now. Maybe it is the chick who is screwing up the vibe. :dunno:

You know I was thinking the exact same thing... like why not have Micheal and Jemele co-host on there.

I also thought that today’s show worked better without Beadle... but the show still seems unnecessary to me. There is nothing new that the show brings to the table. The only difference is that its on the main sports network.

Side note.... Jemele made an appearance on the Dan Lebatard show yesterday...
Its horseshit how ESPN has pushed two of its biggest black players to the sidelines. Like two years ago... Micheal and Jemele were everywhere .... doing amazing Parody videos and shit and now look at them..

Basically being punished because the network made a mistake.

I keep telling Kats.... Greeny works better as the unhip square white guy when he is next to a cool hip brother. That’s why I greatly enjoyed the Greeny and Chris Carter Mike & mike shows. But Beadle just adds this energy and since she has a longer history with Jalen... she tends to talk just to Jalen which looks extremely odd with Greeny in the middle. She also loves to talk over people and during the highlights which is the main thing that I fucking hate about this hot take shit. All of these new sports do it... and I guess that’s why I like the old mike & mike, Golic & Wingo, and Profootball talk. I need discussion. I need insight.

Like a couple weeks ago when Golic & Wingo we’re talking about the new offense targeting rule and how it could effect bruising running backs that dip their head.

With all that being said I'm liking the current lineup on today. Jalen, Greenberg and Ryan Clarke. I don't know if Booger McFarland is still on the show, but he doesn't move the needle for me.

I’m watching it now... Greeny just works so much better when he is the square white dude.

See I could watch this show with this lineup... if it wasn’t for the fact that it comes on the same time as Golic & Wingo.

Hahahahaha I didn’t even see your post and we posted the exact same thing. This lineup is the perfect lineup for them. I wouldn’t mind maybe a Jemele or Michael Smith Add. But it’s clear to
Me that Beadle is the problem with the show and it’s obvious.

Sports shows have to have people that played the sport or are insiders for it to work for me.

This lineup gives you the basketball guy, the football guy and the journalist...

This makes the show a unique show....

I heard she was good with Papi...
I gotta see that....

To me ESPN...just messed that whole thing up from jump. They don't allow them to OWN that spot...not really.

And get out been trying to use bull shit Schefter "updates" to grab viewers...

Because all those breaking news updates used to be a Mike and Mike thing. The show isn't necessary it isn't unique or smart or creative or different

Just expensive.

Jalen and Greeny and rotating guests from music movie and sports could be good....

Wait...wasn't that show called Mike and mike?

AMEN

But it's not JUST the football talk...
Yeah once in a while Golic goes old white man with the culture

But junior and Wingo really even him out in fact he sounds even MORE liberal without Greeny which stuns me, also i appreciate Golic more now

But I like how they discuss movies and music with the whole crew.

And remember how great the show was when the lineup Greeny plus his & hers?

Beadle was perfect for sportsnation...

Well maybe not because Cari the beautiful owns that show now!

Give Beadle sportscenter. Then she can just hot take smart Alec for 45 min. on old sports news of the day.

Booger is an acquired taste

I know that came out wrong.

He KNOWS his college football and he gives an interesting if Barkley was actually smart and didn't engage in tomcoonery southern point of view that I think is needed.

But he is only good in small doses. And not necessary every day.

Today on the Allen tweets...

the white power rhetoric is getting a pass too.

I was laughing out loud cause Greeny was PLEADING with Ryan clark and Jalen that these tweets are horrible

and white people and the NFL do care...

They were like nope.

That white man was about to explode.

Beadle was interestingly silent.

Wonder if "quoted rap lyrics " with Bitch and white hoes....

If she would have been more vocal?

Get Up Had a Profoundly Disappointing First Month of Ratings, Also Hurt First Take

On the surface, it was a win for Get Up to average 434,000 viewers on Friday morning after the first round of the Draft. However, every silver lining has a touch of gray, as even though this was the most people who watched Get Up in its first month on ESPN, it was a drop of more than 20% versus the corresponding SportsCenter programs last year.

All told, the much-ballyhooed program with Mike Greenberg, Michelle Beadle, and Jalen Rose was down nearly 18% year-over-year versus SportsCenter for the month of April, while also dragging down the viewership for First Take, which had been making incremental gains for months but finished April down over 6% versus 2017.

With numbers from Showbuzz Daily (and @SportsTVRatings, who filled in the blank for last Weds), here is the chart for how the two programs performed in April:

screen-shot-2018-05-02-at-11-08-44-am1-e1525277496885.png

Some notes:

1) These numbers represent our counting of April as opposed to how Nielsen classifies the month; if you were going by Nielsen’s calendar, 2017 went from March 27-April 30, 2017, while 2018 went April 2 – April 29, which means last year measured an extra week. However, we just tabulated the days actually in April 2018 individually, and measured them against the corresponding days last year, which included Monday, May 1st to correspond with this past Monday, April 30th.

2) A large reason the post-Draft episodes were down so big, even though aggregate NFL Draft viewership was up this year when you count all networks, is that Fox picked up coverage of the Draft. That ate into ESPN’s market share. This year the first night of the Draft averaged 5.3 million viewers on ESPN while last year it drew 6.7 million.

3) Even though it is still early and Get Up should reasonably be expected to get through the Super Bowl to see if it can find its footing, it’s a very bad sign that it is posting these numbers at the start of the NBA playoffs. According to Austin Karp of the Sports Business Journal, aggregate NBA playoff ratings are up 2% versus last year. This should mean that discussion should not be seeing double-digit declines, especially on a program where two-thirds of the main panelists are directly connected with NBA bumper programming.

4) Beadle and Jalen are spending A LOT of time together between Get Up and Countdown, and some agitation is starting to bleed through the screen. Look at the 2:20-mark of this clip:

5) As we noted verbatim when we covered this topic a couple weeks ago, ESPN issued a press release at the beginning of April touting how strongly its studio shows had performed in March. With regard to First Take, it was noted that the month was up 2% year-over-year, that the show’s audience had grown for nine straight months, and that it was the most-viewed first quarter of the year ever for the program. For that quarter, First Take averaged 474,000 viewers a day and was up 4% year-over-year. Clearly, Get Up has negatively affected First Take’s audience, and ESPN is lucky in many regards that the show has such loyal viewers that the hemorrhaging of its lead-in hasn’t had worse consequences.

Even with the drop, First Take achieved the following (and is still in aggregate up 3% for the year vs. 2017):

6) While it may be true that Get Up didn’t get the borderline obscene promotion that past ESPN launches like SC6 received, don’t let anyone tell you this was a soft launch. If you watch ESPN every day, you have seen ads for Get Up featuring a talking baby or cup of coffee an agonizing amount of times. Greenberg, Beadle, and Rose are making nearly $15 million combined, the incremental New York studio and union production costs are not inexpensive, a cash cow radio show was broken up to make way for this program, and they are losing nearly a fifth of the viewers from a show that ESPN executives were evidently displeased with the performance of because they deemed that it needed dire upheaval.

Before it launched, the show’s producer Bill Wolff told the New York Times, “We need to try to increase the number of viewers that come to us. That’s measurable. That’s tangible.”

A month in, the decrease has been measurable and tangible.

I've changed my mind. I think Get Up is going to make it, if they can leave it on the air long enough. Here lately I find myself needing a Break from Chris Carter (I Love Chris), so I've been turning to get Up to see what my boy Jalen is talking about and I'm kinda getting hooked.

I'm also catching Get Up in it's second replay, when I need a break from the first segment of Undisputed. That segment is reserved for Skip saying Lebron Aint shit and Shannon giving the I love LeBron angle. I also need a break from all Cowboys and NE Pats segments.

I wonder what Undisputed rating look like. :dunno:

Its getting better...

First thing First is Ok, but the other dude's voice is slightly irritating and something about him is off, didn't notice till I watched a few shows in a row...

but First Take and Undisputed...I can't believe its the SAME damn thing.

the issue here is Jalen and Beadle having a better relationship...

and Greeny taking lead. NOT Beadle.

The rotating 4th host to me is OK but then...aint this just Mike & Mike?

What EXACTLY is Greeny doing any different then he did on the radio show?

WTF?!?!??!?!

ESPN's new 'SportsCenter' hosts are Sage Steele and Kevin Negandhi
by Jill Disis @jdisisMay 11, 2018: 1:34 PM ET

ESPN names new president

announced Friday that longtime ESPN personalities Sage Steele and Kevin Negandhi will host the flagship program, which has been without a permanent anchor since early March. They start Monday.

Steele and Negandhi are already well familiar with the franchise. Both of them host different morning editions of the show, and Steele also hosts a traveling version called "SportsCenter on the Road."

They've also each been with the network for more than a decade. An ESPN blog post announcing the decision referred to them as the "veterans committee."

"For a new era, they're going old school," said James Andrew Miller, the journalist and ESPN biographer. "This is not trying to reinvent the wheel."

The choices represent a significant departure from ESPN's most recent attempt to remake the show. It was a little more than a year ago that Michael Smith and Jemele Hill were tapped to host a rebranded "SportsCenter" called "SC6."

Related: ESPN's Michael Smith leaves 'SportsCenter'

At the time, Smith and Hill were better known for the opinionated banter and commentary that shaped their discussion show on ESPN2, "His & Hers."

ESPN billed the revamp as a "format geared to fit Smith and Hill's personalities" — an indication that the network saw them as a means to stay relevant in an era of cord cutting.

But the experiment was short lived. While the network emphasized the hosts' personalities at the outset, Miller said that concept soon clashed with what many at ESPN wanted of "SportsCenter."

Hill was reprimanded and later suspended by ESPN over incidents involving her Twitter feed that were emblematic of the high-wire act she attempted to perform. Once, after Hill called President Donald Trump a "white supremacist," the network released a statement: "Jemele has a right to her personal opinions, but not to publicly share them on a platform that implies that she was in any way speaking on behalf of ESPN."

Hill left the show in January. Smith stayed on for another month and a half.

Related: Jemele Hill leaving SportsCenter to move to ESPN's 'The Undefeated'

Steele and Negandhi haven't started yet, but ESPN has telegraphed a desire to return to a more traditional broadcast. In recent months, the show has swung back to focus on highlights and game previews.

Negandhi emphasized that point in a video announcing his role.

"We know that this show all going to be about highlights, of course, interviews, getting you set up for everything that you're gonna watch at night," he said.

Even so, the Steele pick will likely raise a few eyebrows. Like Hill, Steele is a polarizing personality, albeit with views that have won her favor among conservatives.

For example, she criticized a kneeling NFL player on Twitter and sounded off on Instagram about how travel ban protests forced her to miss a flight.

When Steele was replaced as the host of ESPN's "NBA Countdown" last year, it renewed scrutiny of her social media posts and invited speculation about the reason for her departure. Eventually, ESPN released a statement in her defense, according to USA Today.

Steele has in the past dismissed criticisms about her political leanings, and told the Washington Post last May that "it has nothing to do with me being a sportscaster."

"Nobody has asked" about her politics, she said at the time. "I wouldn't answer, anyway, because it's no one's business."

Miller, the journalist, said he'd be "very surprised" if Steele used the 6 p.m. hour to boost her own personal views.

"I think that there is going to be very little individual political discourse," he said. "I think that what they've figured out now is that they have a formula. They have a recipe that they are going to stick with."

i been watching Mike & Mike for damn near 14/15 years
once i graduated, got a real job and had to get up early they were my go to

i would wake turn them up on tv as I got ready and listen to them in the car

i still think its fucked up that ESPN effectively cannibalized themselves by seperating them and having them compete against each other. they had the perfect partnership. Ex Jock & Metrosexual. 'Dumb' guy & 'Smart' guy, hardcore fan & professional

nowadays i try to fuck with both
i wake up to Golic & Wingo...but as soon as its 7 its straight to Get Up...cause Jalen is my dude (WHAT UP THOUGH)
its Golic & Wingo in the shower & the car by default

as far as the mornig debate shows Get Up wins by default its just fucked up that ESPN put themselves in this situation but I aint mad and I hope everyone keeps getting them checks

I don’t see how Get up can make it ... the problem is that it’s costing ESPN millions and the show isn’t getting any buzz.. Nothing about the show standouts to me. And because of its format.. I think it’s going to be extremely tough to watch after the Nba finals.
They don’t have any football guys in the group.. so they are going to sound stupid during NFL minicamp and training camp time and I’ve got no clue what they are going to talk about in July..

I see them moving it to later in the day if it doesn’t pick up during football season.

It’s just going to be odd to watch a group of basketball people talking football.. which is probably why the network didn’t launch the show during the NFL playoffs.

I like Get up. I can't deal with Wingo's voice so golic and Wingo is out. First Take is also annoying cause of the new guy so i go to undisputed. Basically Jalen and Shannon 's personalities have drawn me to those shows. I like Beadle in this format as well.

man forget basketball..

how they gonna talk almost ONLY baseball for 8 weeks.

cause I don't NBA off season mini camps gonna be enough for these specific individuals

and they HAVE improved to be fair

and I do NOT want Jalen or Greeny to fail...

but to me?

Get Up SHOULD have been Greeny Mike and Jemle (if they HAD to break up Mike & Mike)

Wingo & Golic with the same set up with Jr and add Jalen

To me you either need to have played it or grew up reporting to know how to talk about it... that’s why I like Golic.. cause as a former lineman I get the things Golic talks about like looking at the whites on knuckles of offense lineman to see how they are blocking or having some spit on you while in the bottom of a pile.. that’s the type of insight that I like to hear and that’s why I like the addition of Wingo cause Wingo has been covering NFL for Espn as long as I remember.

Side note... did anyone else know that Jalen and Beadle also do Nba Coutdown and Jalen still does his Jalen & Jacoby Show... basically ESPN is all in on Jalen Rose. But Jalen makes less then Greeny.... just let that set in.

As for him and Beadle... that’s alot of time to working with someone... twice a day for five days a week

let us ALL not forget that Sports Nation is now the BLACKEST and one of the BEST shows on ESPN

I saw a panel of Jemelle Cari Marselles and LZ

it was AMAZING sports talk TV...

Lol I was about to say that... cause I was watching it right now. It’s pure Fucking Black. Which means soon Espn is going to break it up like His & hers.

Jalen is the main reason i ride with Get Up
I rember him from the FX Sport show

been a big fave 5 fan and was fucking with him from Grantland to Jalen & Jacoby...what up though

but GET UP was Greenberg's vehcile from the jump. I am happy Jalen got put on and doing his thing. Real talk he might be the most successful player to transition to media outside the Rock. Radio show/Podcast, NBA show, Morning Show. Dude even got a pilot for a TV show. Dude is s a success. Only thing that needs to be addressed is the Webber/Rose situation.

I REALLY did not want to talk about that

First I happy for Jalen

because he is being treated as respected and valued commodity

cause he is (he did have that DUI but he stepped up like a man)

and lets not forget he ethered Skip Bayliss

OK my reasoning is THIS...

first Greeny and Beadle BEEN making major bank off ESPN

they aint taking pay cuts.

because Jalen technically on paper has the LEAST amount of experience of the 3

(he NEVER did print or real radio and only did Another Damn Sports Show before all this)

was never the LEAD of a TV show and the podcast didn't do well on actual radio

BUT he has done respectfully on TV and still gets great podcast numbers

I UNDERSTAND.

(and the fact that he owes everything to Bill Simmons and Simmons CONTINUED to champion him even after he was fired)

still think it is unfair...but again I can make a solid case.

I like Get up. I can't deal with Wingo's voice so golic and Wingo is out. First Take is also annoying cause of the new guy so i go to undisputed. Basically Jalen and Shannon 's personalities have drawn me to those shows. I like Beadle in this format as well.

I'm with you

I actually like the show

WTF is ESPN doing?????

Why is ESPN paying Katie Nolan seven figures?

Katie Nolan is paid more than a million dollars per year by ESPN, according to sources, but it is hard to figure out exactly why.

She has talent, but, like a top prospect, you wonder when it is going to translate into big hits.

In October, ESPN, under then-president John Skipper, felt the need to poach Nolan from Fox Sports, where she was not really on the air much.

The company paid her seven figures, believing Nolan, 31, has a large social media following, which her more than 400,000 Twitter followers suggest is true.

As of right now, she does “SportsCenter” Snapchats two or three times a week. The segments are approximately 3 to 5 minutes long. She also does a weekly podcast. Those are her current regular assignments.

Nolan also occasionally appears on Dan Le Batard’s show “Highly Questionable” and some other TV talk shows as a guest. She was part of ESPN’s “Cool Room” for one of its alternative broadcasts of the college football national championship.

In development, she has what will be a weekly show that is expected to appear on social media. Even when you add it all up, her per-hour rate is pretty livable.

ESPN pays plenty of big salaries, but as the network gets leaner and leaner in terms of workforce — it has laid off hundreds over the last few years — it seems there needs to be a payoff with the highest salaries.

While ESPN declined an interview request with Nolan, it did provide a statement.

“When Katie joined ESPN, we announced that she would bring her perspective, authenticity and sense of humor across multiple platforms in a variety of projects, and that is exactly what is happening,” said Ryan Spoon, ESPN senior vice president of social media, as part of the statement. “Yes, she is most prominent on digital. That’s not a flaw; it’s by design. Building invested fans today requires that you reach them in a variety of ways and not be limited by past conventions.”

ESPN argues it is grabbing a younger demo with its “SportsCenter” Snapchat. It says it reaches 2 million people daily. It could not break down whether Nolan’s spots do better than the lesser-known or -paid hosts’ ones.

From what we have seen, Nolan has some skills, flashing some humor as she tries to be edgy. But working at a Disney-owned company, like ESPN, in the social media age, there are rules at the edges. There are limitations for someone who is supposed to be very irreverent.

The biggest headline Nolan has made since arriving at ESPN is when she called President Trump a “f–king stupid person” on a Vice show. It came at a time when ESPN was trying to lose a perception from some of a liberal bias.

As it turns out, Nolan’s best skill may be “developing projects.” At FS1, she hosted a weekly show called “Garbage Time,” which didn’t get much of a rating but did win a Sports Emmy for “Outstanding Social TV Experience.” After “Garbage Time” ended, she never really did much at FS1, though there always seemed to be talk about a next project.

Now, at ESPN, she is developing a digital show. It sounds as if it will happen, though there is no timetable for exactly when.

Either way, in ESPN’s eyes, it is getting its money’s worth with Nolan.

I think she should be the permanent replacement for Bomani on Highly Questionable. Her, Dan, and Papi have good chemistry. But seven figures already, Iono about that.
