See Hasbro's adorable new Baby Yoda animatronic toy in action

From the moment Baby Yoda first appeared on The Mandalorian, he was an instant pop culture superstar; by the end of 2019, The Hollywood Reporter had declared him the future of Hollywood. So it didn’t take long for Baby Yoda toys and dolls to start appearing on the market, but few of them were able to capture the multi-faceted appeal of the adorable space creature. It’s not just his big eyes or his little monkish robe, but also his puppet movements and his little noises; Baby Yoda on The Mandalorian is greater than the sum of his parts. But on Tuesday, Hasbro unveiled a new Baby Yoda animatronic that might be the closest yet to capturing his magical aura.
In the video above, you can see the new Baby Yoda animatronic move his arms and make his noises. It can even do an imitation of the character’s Force use: His eyes close, his hands lift, and epic music plays. Cutest of all, he even bears that pendant shaped like the symbol of the Mandalorians. That animatronic will be available at major retailers this fall.

Time for a disclaimer: Disney and Hasbro still insist the character’s official name is “The Child.” Anyway, alongside the Baby Yoda animatronic, Hasbro also unveiled other Baby Yoda products to come including a talking plush t oy, a 6.5-inch figure, a series of 2.2-inch collectibles, and a 1.12-inch collectible action figure. Those are due out in the spring.

The one good thing about “Rise Of Skywalker” is we have a idea on who wants Baby Yoda and why.

It’s obvious Sidious or Snope know about Baby Yoda and wants him.

Baby Yoda obviously has a special connection to the Force with the ability to heal people who are seriously wounded. We have not seen any Jedi or Sith have that ability.

There’s a good chance we might see Sidious or Snope in Season 2, and If so, hopefully get some insight on Snopes background.

She should have pitched the idea for a different show or maybe a movie that would go directly to Disney+. Possibly a mini-series with 3 or 4 episodes.

The part about Sidious and how he survived and built up his fleet would be interesting. But the Yoda re-incarnation would not make sense being we saw Yoda in spirit form in Episde 8.

It would have been too much to have the Sidious storyline in season one of the Mandalorian and do character development.

With Rosario Dawson As Ahsoka, The Dave Filoni-fication Of ‘The Mandalorian’ Is Complete

Sometimes, fan-castings do come true. That seems to be what’s just happened for The Mandalorian, where Slashfilm reported that actress Rosario Dawson will be taking on the role of Ahsoka Tano in season 2 this coming fall (or whenever it arrives, with production shutdown due to the pandemic).

The idea started with a tweet three full years ago, where Dawson responded to a fan-casting suggestion about Ahsoka with a “yes please.”

And as recently as this year, fans were still all about the concept, taking to fan art to render what Dawson would look like in the role:

display

Now, that dream will become a reality. It’s not clear how large a role Dawson’s Ahsoka will have in season 2 of The Mandalorian, but this development cements just how large Dave Filoni’s influence looms over the show, and possibly a lot of Disney Plus’s future Star Wars content in general.

Filoni, creator of animated series Clone Wars and Rebels, where Ahsoka was seen previously, has been intimately involved in The Mandalorian from the start as a writer and director, even if it has been Jon Favreau making most of the headlines. So far, we’ve gotten only cursory connections to his past series, like how (spoilers) it was Death Watch who saved young Mando as a boy, or how Moff Gideon wields the Darksaber at the end of the season, both pulled from Rebels plotlines.

I am willing to bet a large amount of money that Rosario Dawson appearing as Ahsoka will lead to a spin-off of the character. While yes, most of her story has been told through Clone Wars and Rebels, there’s certainly a lot of gap time that would allow her to star in new adventures. I mean, if they’re doing it with Obi-Wan, they can do it with her.

The last we saw Ahsoka she was off looking for Ezra with Sabine at the end of Rebels. Sabine, another Mandalorian, seems like she would be a good fit as a guest star in The Mandalorian as well, though no casting announcements have been made there.

Ahsoka even had a cameo in The Rise of Skywalker as one of the Jedi voices that aid Rey at the end of the film (many Clone Wars and Rebels characters did). I think Disney understands how beloved the character is and how good Dave Filoni is at crafting stories, that I would not be surprised to see them give him greater control over the franchise going forward, and again, I can see a live-action Ahsoka show in the cards, potentially.

We’ll see how all this shakes out, but I am fully on board with the Filoni takeover of Star Wars going forward, if that’s how it’s going to be.

Twitter Fans Say Rosario Dawson Is Transphobic, Asks for Recast of Ahsoka Tano

Posted on March 20, 2020 by Sean Sposato

https://insidethemagic.net/2020/03/rosario-dawson-called-transphobic-sp1/

Today, exciting news came to “Star Wars” fans everywhere when it was revealed that season 2 of Disney+’s hit TV series “The Mandalorian” will feature Ahsoka Tano played by “Men in Black II” star Rosario Dawson. However, with all the excitement of the inclusion of the Padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker was anger among some Twitter users who say Dawson is transphobic and are demanding for the role to be recast.

On Twitter, the hashtag #RecastAhsoka can be found circulating in between Tweets announcing the news of Dawson’s casting in the hit intergalactic series. All of which, making claims against the actress. One of which, specifically pointing to a lawsuit the actress and her boyfriend are currently intertwined in claiming both attacked a transgender employee in Los Angeles last year.

According to a suit filed in a Los Angeles court last October by transgender man Dedrek Finley, it alleges that Dawson and her family subjected him to transphobic harassment and violent abuse.

The suit states that Dawson and three members of her family violated Dedrek Finley’s (the plaintiff) civil rights by discriminating against him because of his transgender status. The suit seeks damages for discrimination as well as a list of other allegations, including battery, assault, emotional distress, and several others.

Finley claims in the suit that in April 2018, after the family attempted to evict Finley solely because of his transgender status, the family had got together to assault him, saying Rosario’s mother dragged Finley by his arm out of a window to attack him.

“Once Mr. Finley was lying helpless on the ground outside, Isabel, who is substantially larger than Mr. Finley, got on top of Mr. Finley’s body and began punching him,” the suit states. “While beating Mr. Finley, Isabel screamed, ‘You’re not so much of a man now,’ which was a clear and denigrating reference to Mr. Finley’s gender identity.”

The suit then goes on to specifically mention Rosario’s inclusion in the attack stating she assisted in the assault by sitting on top of Finley by “actively restraining him while he was on the ground to ensure that her mother could continue battering him.”

Isabel Dawson also allegedly threatened to kill Finley’s cat if he did not move out and stomped on his hand during the attack and stole his cellphone, which Finley alleges contains video of the previous threats made against him.

In the slew of Tweets calling for the recasting of Dawson, many users not only express their grievances with the casting decision by Disney but also their own ideas of who should be recast in the role.

Season Two of “The Mandalorian”is currently in production. Its release date on Disney+ is scheduled for this October.

Was looking for updates because of the Coronavirus.

Word going around is they had completed filming before Hollywood shutdown and the series is going thru post production SFX and VFX studio work right now.

Disney is contemplating on moving up the debut because the Marvel shows were still in production and have been shut down.

The Marvel shows were scheduled to debut after Black Widow and Agents of SHIELD because they were the lead ins to the show storywise.

Black Widow right now is scheduled for a November release which means the Marvel shows won’t debut until 2021 hopefully.

AoS right now is still scheduled for summer release. It is complete and ready to debut. No word yet at this time if it will debut on ABC or Disney+.

We May Finally Learn How Baby Yoda Was Born
By Rebecca Alter
This IKEA monkey-lookin’ lil cutie Photo: Disney+
It’s the question every parent dreads: “Where do Baby Yodas come from?” With kids home from school for the rest of the year, it’s not as simple as telling them to go ask their Galactic Republic Ed teacher. We all want to know how Baby Yoda came to be, and Disney+ just might have the answer, with its upcoming eight-episode documentary series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. In the series, executive producer Jon Favreau will host roundtable conversations, interviews, and show never-before-seen footage about the making of The Mandalorian. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an opportunity for fans of the show to take a look inside and get to see a different perspective, and perhaps a greater understanding, of how The Mandalorian came together and some of the incredibly talented contributors throughout season 1,” said Favreau in a statement. “We had a great experience making the show and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.”
Each episode will explore topics including the filmmaking, acting, and connections to the Star Wars films, as well as “the series’ groundbreaking technology, the artistry behind the show’s practical models, effects, and creatures.” While the press release doesn’t mention Baby Yoda (or “the child”) specifically, the little tyke is certainly The Mandalorian’s most beloved practical model/effect/creature. Another thing the press release doesn’t mention? Werner Herzog. We can only hope that we get an interview between him and the “heartbreakingly beautiful” puppet. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian premieres on Disney+ on Monday, May 4, obviously.

Are there any two words in filmic parlance sweeter than “practical effects“? That’s not rhetorical. The correct answer is yes, and the words are “Baby Yoda.” The trailer for the upcoming Disney+ docuseries Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian gives us both, like the world’s coolest DVD making-of featurette. The trailer shows footage of giant wraparound screens, extras in stormtrooper gear, and a rideable mechanical puppet so massive it makes War Horse look like a My Little Pony. All of this is framed by roundtable discussions between executive producer Jon Favreau and directors Deborah Chow, Dave Filoni and Rick Famuyiwa. There’s also footage of directors Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi on set, calling shots. Most thrilling, though, is footage of Baby Yoda in full puppet mode, surrounded by paparazzi-style by cameras in one shot, walking with the help of rods and pulleys in another. Rather than break the illusion of Baby Yoda’s lifelikeness, seeing the puppetry and practical effects up close somehow make the Child seem more real, tangible, and alive than ever, like a real, live 50-year-old child actor on set with Pedro and the gang. “One of the weirdest and best things that ever happened was Werner. He was acting against the baby and he started directing the baby directly,” says Deborah Chow in the trailer. “I’m trying to direct Werner, who’s now directing the puppet. He was telling us we needed to commit to the magic, use the puppet.” The series streams on Disney+ May 4.

Your Chances of Seeing Timothy Olyphant Holding Baby Yoda Have Just Skyrocketed
By Halle Kiefer@hallekiefer
Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images
256c75e19cdde1828c2faf8af037173739-15-Timothy-Olyphant.rsquare.w330.jpg

Chances are the makers of The Mandalorian wanted Timothy Olyphant for his Deadwood and Justified-confirmed Western swagger, but that doesn’t mean he won’t end up snuggling America’s freakishly strong sweetheart Baby Yoda on the Disney+ show at some point. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Santa Clarita Diet actor will be joining Temuera Morrison and the returning Mandalorian cast for the second season of the series, which will reportedly premiere in October.
It’s currently unknown whether Olyphant will portray a brand-new character, a returning character or some Star Wars universe freaky-leaky deep-cut, so, yes, hypothetically, it’s just as likely Timothy Olyphant will get to carry Baby Yoda in a Baby Bjorn as it is he’ll have to assassinate him under orders from Werner Herzog, but we pray it’s the former. We don’t want to see what happens when some gunslinger goes toe-to-toe with Baby Yoda and thinks he’ll make it out alive.

Pedro Pascal Breaks, and Breaks Hard, During the Community Virtual Table Read Reunion
By Halle Kiefer@hallekiefer

The cast of Community reunited for a very special virtual table read of season five, episode four “Cooperative Polygraphy” Monday, a benefit to raise funds for World Central Kitchen and Frontline Foods, and by far the standout castmember had to be The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal. What’s that? Pedro Pascal isn’t in that episode of Community? Okay, true, but Walter Goggins was unavailable to reprise his role as Mr. Stone, so Pascal was happy to fill it. Very happy and giggly. The substitution really enhanced the table read, since Walter Goggins probably knew how much his character had to talk about liquid nitrogen-cooled cylinders of hyper-virile sperm, and boy, Pedro Pascal really did not.
During the cast’s post-read Q&A with Variety’s Michael Schneider, Donald Glover and Danny Pudi ruminated on a possible plot for the ever-rumored Community movie, which they suggest should focus on Abed’s search for his bestie Troy, who disappeared while sailing around the world. “I feel like Abed’s got to find him. I like movies like that,” Glover mused. Added Pudi, “I love the idea of Troy being lost and Abed’s mission is to go find him, try to track someone down. That could be kind of fun,” all while creator Dan Harmon excitedly pretended to scribble down their ideas.

Jon Favreau Gives the World a Much-Needed Update on ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2
BY ALLIE GEMMILL JUNE 6, 2020

SHARE TWEET

Jon Favreau has given us a much-needed update on where The Mandalorian Season 2 is at in its production timeline. We’ve been getting fun Mandalorian casting updates by the metric ton in recent months, including news Timothy Olyphant, Temuera Morrison, and Katee Sackhoff would all be joining the Season 2 cast. But, even amidst all of this casting news, fans are (most likely) champing at the bit to know if The Mandalorian Season 2 is still on schedule to debut later this year amidst production shutdowns due to coronavirus concerns.

Image via Disney+
Favreau, an executive producer on The Mandalorian, was able to give some insight to those concerns during a jam-packed virtual panel at the ATX Television Festival (via The Hollywood Reporter). In response to where in the production timeline the show was, Favreau offered up: “We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lock down. Thanks to how technology-forward Lucasfilm and ILM are, we have been able to do all of our visual effects and editing and postproduction remotely through systems that had been set up by those companies for us.”
Favreau’s comments seem to confirm The Mandalorian Season 2 is indeed on track to premiere in October. In addition to confirming the Disney+ show’s production schedule, Favreau also shared a vague (but still intriguing!) tease on the vibe of the new season, telling Mandalorian virtual panel host Anthony Breznican Season 2 will feel more like a continuation of Season 1, mostly due to the rigors of the TV schedule.
The Mandalorian executive producer was also joined by a handful of Season 1’s episode directors, including Rick Famuyiwa, Taika Waititi, Deborah Chow, and Bryce Dallas Howard. At one point, Waititi quipped his Star Wars movie was “all finished, I’m done,” and was then followed up with Chow giving an update on the Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spinoff series she’s helming: “We have a little more to do than that, but we are in development still.”
The Mandalorian Season 2 will arrive later this year. Get even more Star Wars updates here.
