Yeah, the $100 minimum is stupid. That's not going to curtail all the dumb shit going on.
What's to stop folks from ordering a bunch of shit to hit the minimum and then dipping out before the check comes?

Nothing at all

Fine dining in 2021 is a myth

The places are nice and upscale but the dress code is you just wear what you wore to work or decided to get dinner

You're gonna spend $100 especially as a couple
But per person naaah!

I get it. "Fine dining" includes an atmosphere of sophistication. Obviously, the dress code is targeting the "urban look" that primarily black folks use. That said, I don't see is as racist in that that might be a common look in their steakhouse that they are trying to avoid. If suddenly loud white folks in wife beaters and wranglers started coming in by the dozens, the steak house would likely add to the dress code to address them. If we are going to be honest, many people who dress in baggy jeans tend to be loud and obnoxious. I experience it often when going to steakhouses. Im not going to advocate for behavior that I don't agree with.

Shit...
If you can't afford the $100 fee. Then you can't afford what's on the menu any way.

Honestly I’d have a problem if I went to McDonald’s and they told me that I had to spend $10.

It’s the principle.

And I don’t go to McDonald’s but that’s not the point.

Who tells patrons that they have to spend a certain amount of money to eat there?

And before you say it, I’m not talking about drink minimums at places.

A local chain of fine dining reataurants in BMore, the Atlas Group, came out with a dress code that banned people in t shirts and baggy pants. Niggaz were complaining up the wazoo. Plus, a woman and her 15 year old son went to one of the joints with some baggy, saggy jeans and they wouldn't admit them. And, the righteous indignation from the preachers and politicians was something to behold. Personally, I don't want to be in a restaurant with no dress code either. Lo and behold, 3 of their restaurants are on the waterfront, side by side. They have now become the hangout place for the 20-50 black folks with enough for a few drinks. The chicks look like they save money so they can buy outfits with they tittays hanging out and take pictures with the water in the background for IG. And, because the hoes are in there, the local drug dealers drop by in their 3 wheeled vehicles to pick em up. All, in all, it looks like profits are being made and fashion is being displayed. No saggy pants, just tittays on he bar.
it's interesting in your post about the Baltimore restaurant, you left out the part about a white kid who was dressed similarly was allowed to eat in the restaurant with his parents. In fact, that was the black woman's main complaint.

If that is the event you are referring to, can you explain why you left that part out?

What happens if it’s only $98?

The things is this is a different level of business. They're catering to people who not only spend money (that's clear by the menu prices) but also tip as well.
Me personally I could afford the place but the restaurant aint geared towards a person like me who think that shit is overpriced.
Btw restaurants have thin margins and if people are just buying the lower priced items on the menu. Then that may be the reason (or one of the reasons) for the policy change

I went to Alexander’s steakhouse in San Francisco and ordered the Waygu. I didn’t know they priced that shit by the ounce . No damn prices on the menu. I ordered the 9 ounce Jawn because a 3 ounce steak ain’t shit. My god damn bill was over $1000 between me and my wife and drinks and appetizers . My steak alone was $625 . Never again

Let’s be honest, they don’t want niggas in there chillin getting appetizers and hanging out like it’s happy hour.

I get it that they want people to spend more money and weed out the people who are just chillin and not really spending.

But I just have an issue with any place telling people how much they have to spend. And it doesn’t matter the establishment.

Certain clubs or events are known to have drink minimums, I’ve never heard of a restaurant having a minimum that patrons have to spend to eat there.

I’ve explained it as best as I can and most seem to get it. I don’t care how much it is, I don’t want a restaurant telling me the minimum that I have to spend to eat there.

In the past I’d go to steak houses and order the porterhouse for two…

Just for me, so I’m not worried about a price. I just don’t want you telling me how much I have to spend to eat there.

I never understood this. I have zero issue with their policy because I'm not being forced to patronize their establishment. There are far too many other places that I can patronize.
