Dems and most republicans always release their tax returns. Trump was the only one in modern times who didn't. I don't think congress is looking for crimes tho. If I recall they wanted them to determine if laws need to be written regarding tax returns and running for office.

The IRS has had his returns for a while, if something was there taxwise they would have moved on it. The returns are being used as evidence for federal crimes - like manipulating property values.
Those IRS hires are to look at the people who routinely escape taxes (eg. the 1%) because the IRS simply didn't have the manpower to follow up all the ins and outs they use to evade taxes. Now they do. Watch those rich boys start to scream.
