He says that he stole money when he was in the Eastern DEU.

please share during which episode he states this.

True dude, we know that he "acquired" some money during the time he was assigned there but we were never shown/told how he got it.

With the rank levels he was going to and with his estranged wife being a new politician ANY appearance of impropriety could hurt.

Doesn't matter, Avon was in jail, to get out they would've made a deal with the devil.

Bottom line, Butchie was about money and Avon/Stringer paid him very well, remember that Butchie was burning his own bridge setting up the security guard.

what were the "greeks"?

he spoke greek.

who/what uses those beads he left behind @ hotel?

The "Greeks" were that whole crew that hung out @ that diner that we were introduced to in season 2.

They were the ones Proposition Joe got his product from as well as the ones running the prostitution ring that those 13 dead women in the container were headed for.

"The Greek" himself was the older guy with the mustache who sat @ the counter while his right-hand guy Vondas made deals.

They weren't actually Greek either, they often changed identities by getting new passports and shit.

The older guy was "The Greek", we never got an actual name from him. Spiros aka Vondas was his partner, and The Greek would be his advisor/boss. Vondas would be the one to meet people, make the deals, the set-ups, the connections.

They brought drugs, guns and prostitutes from other countries to Baltimore through the Docks who were ran by their guy, Frank Sobotka. The shit was taken to a warehouse, ran by "Double G" George Glekas (the one Ziggy shot).

Prop Joe sold the drugs wholesale to the other dealers, that's why the Greeks liked him so much and one of the reason why he started the Co-Op. Because he would order drugs for all the other dealers and The Greeks wouldn't have to worry about meeting all the drug dealers and worry about who's cops and shit like that. Joe took that responsibility.

vondas was greek.

there is an excellent essay (speculative of course, but compelling arguments) that suggests "the greek" was from cyprus. for most americans, that's close enough to being greek.

Very well put. Fucking Cheese. Joe should have killed him. Funny that Prop Joe spared Cheese's life only to later be killed because Cheese got in with Marlo. Like Michael did Fredo, sometimes you have to take out your own trash...even if it is family.

i just recently rewatched entire series.

i also just got done reading through these 23 pages.

i have some questions & comments.

but, wtf cranrab its funny EVERYONE but YOU can see that you habor

some sort of ill feeling on the character of russell stringer bell.

djm posed & ask questions that you really never answer, make up

things that were not actual fact. you respond by saying i watched

you need to rewatch it. you may have made a few valid points,

but OVERALL off basis, mabey you need to rewatch it. these are

MY observations on these 23 pages of commentary. its so ironic

how you ride stringers incompetence & lack of understanding,

because you are displaying the same thing in this thread!
:smh::lol:

observation: i thought the purpose of having

a nickname on the street was so everyone especially police

couldnt readily identify you(ie.little kevins deceit).

no one ever called marlo "black", which was his alias.

bodie had the weakest crew of all on the show.

i would have taken mikes crew over his. kevin marlo spy,

lex killing over pussy, poot pussy crazed, damn who had their eye

on any $.

also i noticed mike was the ONLY one in the stanfield gang to be

both muscle & have his own corner.

i think marlo was supposed to be 22(someone asked his age).

marlos run as "crown" wearer only lasted a good two-three

years(correct me if im wrong).

stringer was correct about the bodies. that is what got the major

crimes squad back on their ass(war with stanfield), they were on

someone else(kintel). just like the 1st time it was the bodies(&

them beating the cases- hences mcnultys hard-on for

them(barksdales).

why did kima live in such a crime infested

neighborhood? her window view was of a police camera, with police

cars flying by sirens blasting. damn she was murder police, im

sure she could afford better. baltimore is not expensive

comparative to other places, ie. ny, sf, hawaii, la.

*yeah i know its a tv show, just wondering.

she was fearless, guess thats what they were showing.

i think stringer fell apart & was making bad

decisions because of the weight that was placed on his shoulders(multiple times you seen him get emotional).

he never had to deal with all of that(had avon to help him run

their business). he also cracked & snitched

on avon(wasnt right) beacuse he saw divines death as a result of

avons war with marlo(divine was his cousin, i believe).

that was his breaking point.

I just agreed to disagree and leave cranrab alone, it was acknowledged in sooo many different ways by the writers that Stringer was a smart individual that it's not funny yet cranrab still insists that he was an idiot from day one.

Avon, no matter how tight they were growing up as kids, would NOT have kept him in the position that he was in nor would they have climbed so high IF Stringer was that stupid from the outset.

I agree, it was partially that Stringer had much more weight on his shoulders but I still feel that to a greater extent he took his eye off the prize because his own dream of becoming a "legit real world businessman" clouded his judgement.

In other words his decisions became based on HIS goals and not Barksdale crew goals.

It was those decisions, along with Avon's lust for power, that brought them both down.

Observation: Season 1.

This is the scene where Weebay reminds Deangelo about the rule against talking in the car. Right before the music cuts off, Jay-Z's last words were "Vamoose motherfucker".....Were the writer's foretelling not only D's fate but also the NY drug dealers in the following seasons?
Was the writing/screenplay really that deep?

AGREED!

I think by saying that they were just acknowledging that his grandma was old school, that she goes back to the days when we were referred to as "colored".

why is it that no one talks about the baltimore-sun,

as a whole or apart? the media(season 5) was not discussed in this

While it is entirely possible, David Simon says in his DVD commentary that they weren't going to use musical clues in the series to tell the audience what was happening rather the music would only come from something that was part of the scene, in this case the song was coming from the car stereo.

Notice that in the scene after Wee-Bay shuts the SUV off another one passes playing the same some @ the same part which suggests that the song was just on the radio period.

What he and the director actually wanted us to notice was the fact that Wee-Bay, as the hardened criminal, was standing under the "burgers" sign and D'Angelo, who never really had the heart for the game, was standing under the "chicken" sign.

It's for the same reason why Season 2 was regarded by most to be the weakest, the paper really didn't have anything to do with Black people, just like the dockworkers.

Season 2 was good... although they weren't black people the are still mostly foreigners and people society left by the wayside... also it showed that the drugs weren't coming from the inner city streets... I also think it was the weakest.. but it is a Baltimore story and it would be unfair to make it just "black" folks

I enjoyed it.. but I ain't gonna lie was happy when they went back to the streets in season 3

yeah plus he would have just done it out of guilt... carver was a single guy in his thirties working policeman hours... would not have been ideal... but I think he did more than most people would have done for Randy... who is the new prop joe right?
