There doesn't need to be a spinoff.
Zombies are played out.
Vampires are overdone.
Ghosts are only good for a couple of jump scares.

Can we get some Chupacabaras up in this bitch or sumpthin'?!
Sirens?
Jhinns?
Bet you ain't never seen a Yenaldooshi tv series!
And I never get sick of a good Papa Legba story.
Let's bury these zombies!

‘The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln & Danai Gurira Make Surprise Comic-Con Appearance To Tout Upcoming Limited Series On Rick Grimes & Michonne; Grimes-Led Films Not Moving Forward
By Matt Grobar, Justin Kroll

AMC
Longtime The Walking Dead cast members Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira wowed fans at Comic-Con on Friday with a surprise appearance at Hall H—teasing an upcoming limited series that will wrap up story arcs for their respective characters of Rick Grimes and Michonne.
The latest TWD spinoff will present an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead? The Walking Dead Universe’s Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple will serve as showrunner for the series, with Lincoln and Gurira as EPs. The show is set to launch with six episodes next year.

Originally, the plan was to wrap up Rick’s story in a standalone film at Universal. Sources say the studio had been talking to Craig Zobel to direct. But Lincoln confirmed today that those plans have been shelved with the network now closing his story in this new series. “I can’t wait to get my cowboy boots back on,” he said.
Nearing the end of its eleventh and final season, The Walking Dead is the first series in a post-apocalyptic zombie franchise, based on Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard’s comic books of the same name, which watches as survivors of an apocalyptic event grapple with an almost constant threat of attacks from zombies referred to as “walkers,” amidst a collapsed civilization.
Lincoln’s character is a Sheriff who led the show’s pack of survivors for its first nine seasons. He’s presumed dead by members of his clan as of Season 9’s fifth episode “What Comes After,” after blowing up a bridge with dynamite to stave off hordes of walkers, and while he subsequently disappears, we learn that he has, in fact, survived, as he helicopters off with Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh) and her allies.
Gurira’s Michonne is a katana-wielding survivor first introduced in Season 3 who joins Grimes’ group and eventually falls for him, becoming a surrogate mother to his kids. The character last appeared in Season 10, setting off to find Rick after learning that he may have survived his near mortal Season 9 injury.

“This is a moment fans of The Walking Dead have been waiting for since Rick disappeared in the helicopter early in season nine, and Michonne journeyed away on a quest to find him the following season,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “What a great surprise for the fans at this final Comic-Con for the series that launched this universe and made television history. We couldn’t be more excited for a truly epic series finale later this year and to see Andy and Danai return in a new series they helped create, one of three new series coming in 2023 that continue the stories of so many iconic and fan-favorite TWD characters.”
“Rick and Michonne are two of my favorite people and Danai and Andy are two of my favorite people,” said Gimple in a statement. “Working with all of them continues to be a dream come true. The three of us, along with a terrific team of TWD all stars and incredible new voices, are crafting an insane love epic worth the long, long wait.”
Said Lincoln in his statement: “This has been the most extraordinary journey playing Rick Grimes for the best part of a decade. The friendships I’ve made along the way are deep and lasting, so it’s fitting that I finally get to complete the story with Danai and Scott and the rest of the TWD family. I’m so excited to be returning to the screen as Rick, reuniting with Danai as Michonne, and bringing the fans an epic love story to add to the Walking Dead Universe.”
Added Gurira: “Michonne and this TWD family has meant so much to me, and to continue the journey of these beloved characters, alongside Scott and Andy, both creatively and in front of the camera, and bringing The Walking Dead fans something truly special is just glorious. I can’t wait to pick up the katana again.”
Lincoln and Gurira were in San Diego today for the final Hall H bow of The Walking Dead, which returns for its final set of eight episodes this fall, after more than a decade on the air. Other projects in the works at present, as expansions of The Walking Dead Universe, include a Europe-set spinoff centered on Reedus’ Daryl, and the offshoot Isle of the Dead, which has Morgan and Lauren Cohan reprising their respective roles as Negan and Maggie. Both are scheduled to premiere in 2023.
Lincoln is repped by CAA, Range Media Partners and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Gurira by Suskin/Karshan Management, UTA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Definitely checking this out

It's a good series. Plenty of action and I like how they unravel the timelines of the characters.

I mentioned to my brother a few times he should check out this show and some of the Fargo seasons. They had filming locations in parts of Calgary ... his ex-gf is from there, and he's got friends there as well.

Told him he'd probably recognize some of the filming locales.

Melissa McBride talks future of Carol after The Walking Dead

"I feel like Carol has more story to tell,'" says McBride, while Norman Reedus insists "They will meet down the road. You can pretty much bet all your money."
By Dalton RossSeptember 06, 2022 at 01:15 PM EDT

AMC first announced back in September of 2020 that The Walking Dead would conclude at the end of a supersized season 11 in the fall of 2022. But there was a silver lining to that cloud in that it was also revealed that the two characters that had been on the show since season 1 would be continuing their journey. Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride were to star in a Daryl and Carol spin-off that would pick up with their on-screen alter egos for a new journey after the mothership was finally grounded.
"Of course, I've always enjoyed working so closely with Norman throughout these many seasons," said McBride in a statement at the time. "In playing Carol, and as a viewer of the show, I've also long been intrigued with 'Daryl and Carol,' and by what so early on between them, even then, felt somehow bound. Their shared history is long, and each's own personal fight to survive, even longer — the more obvious aspect of what has kept them close and loyal. But there is also a rather mysterious aspect to their fondness for one another that I enjoy, and their playfulness when the world permits. I'm very curious! [Showrunner Angela Kang] has a way of shaking things up in great and unexpected ways. She's like a kid playing with the dimmer switch! I'm very excited!"

Fans were equally excited. But then the news broke this April that McBride was no longer part of the show, and that it would instead focus just on Reedus' Daryl Dixon.
"Melissa McBride has given life to one of the most interesting, real, human and popular characters in The Walking Dead Universe," an AMC statement read. "Unfortunately, she is no longer able to participate in the previously announced spin-off focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe this summer and premiere next year. Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time. We know fans will be disappointed by this news, but The Walking Dead Universe continues to grow and expand in interesting ways and we very much hope to see Carol again in the near future."

Well, it would now appear that McBride would like to see Carol again in the near future as well. EW spoke to the actress as part of our upcoming Walking Dead Fall TV Preview cover story, and when asked about the possibility of more Peletier, a sly smile crosses McBride's face. "I feel like Carol has more story to tell," she responds before pausing. "I'll leave it at that." Another pause. "I think she's got some more story." Another sly grin.

With AMC handing out spin-offs to pretty much anyone ever associated with the show (See: Maggie and Negan taking New York in Dead City, Rick and Michonne returning for an "epic and insane love story", and even Samantha Morton's very much deceased Alpha showing up again in Tales of the Walking Dead), it's not surprising that there would also be something in the works for one of the most beloved characters in the franchise canon. But the question is, what?
If Reedus is to be believed, even if they are not sharing a screen right off the bat, the Daryl and Carol story is far from complete. "Their journey's not over," Reedus tells EW. "They will meet down the road. You can pretty much bet all your money. I read all these people whining about it, and I have to just keep my mouth shut, but there will be a lot of foots in a lot of mouths at some point."
If McBride is hinting that Carol will be back, and Reedus is flat-out promising it, what does Walking Dead chief content officer Scott M. Gimple have to say about all of this? "I mean, they both put it right," says Gimple. "There's just more story to tell. And I love both characters so much that we will be telling stories with each of them moving forward. And who knows beyond that? But I've never stopped talking to Melissa about this. I'm thrilled at the idea of it and I'm very optimistic for the future of telling some cool Carol stories."
Exactly when and where those stories happen remains to be seen, but it appears Carol has not baked her last batch of cookies after all.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan on almost walking away from The Walking Dead

The actor reveals why he "couldn't say no" to playing Negan again on Dead City.

Fans of The Walking Dead were surprised in March to learn there would be a new spin-off featuring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan as Negan and Maggie. But just as surprised were the actual Walking Dead cast and crew.
"We didn't know the exact timing of the release of information," says Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang, who was hoping for a little more mystery when it came to two characters' fates for the final run of episodes beginning Oct. 2 on AMC. "I assumed that wasn't going to be announced. So it does change the way certain things are going to play in the season compared to how we thought they would play."

"We were a little surprised," executive producer and finale director Greg Nicotero reveals of the early announcement. "Because we thought, 'Well, that could mean that certain characters are going to live, and now there's a little bit less jeopardy involved knowing that. I think even Jeffrey was a little like, 'Well, okay, I guess the cat's out of the bag and we don't have to worry about anything happening to Negan or Maggie because they've already announced a spin-off.'"

Six months later, Morgan remains disappointed in the early reveal."That's not the way we should have gone about it," says the actor when talking to EW for our Walking Dead Fall TV Preview cover story. "But this is how it was chosen to play out. And who knows? Maybe we couldn't have kept the secret. But it seems to me we could have given it a shot. I would've tried to go about it in a different way, but look, that's above my pay grade."

Even as blindsiding as the announcement was, what was even more surprising to the man playing Negan was the fact that he even wanted to do the show in the first place. "If you had told me that a year ago that I would be doing it, I would've said, 'There's no way. I'm going to end this and walk away.'" says Morgan. "The new adventure awaits doing something else.'"
So what changed? The actor pauses and considers: "I think that The Walking Dead ending and walking away from it would've been a noble thing for us all to do. But the story was so good and so worth telling that it simply came down to, I couldn't say no. And I felt invigorated and wanted to continue it."

And continuing it they are. Recently rechristened as The Walking Dead: Dead City (from original working title Isle of the Dead), the new series will be set in New York City, and, according to AMC president Dan McDermott, follows "Negan and Maggie's journey onto the isle of Manhattan, where the bridges and tunnels were blown up at the onset of the pandemic, because the walker herd had just overrun the island and it's been left that way for 12 years. And so now it's a two million walker strong herd that is dominating the streets and making it treacherous and dangerous."
In what turned out to be very appropriate timing, filming on the series began in New Jersey back in July at pretty much the exact same time the rest of The Walking Dead cast was out celebrating the end of the original show at Comic-Con in San Diego. Morgan has felt that separation, even while playing such a familiar character. "Lauren and I are deep into this now. And we look around, and we're looking for our castmates. We're looking for their chairs. We're looking for the people we know, because as familiar as it all is, it is also very different. You look behind video village and It's not any of the same faces that you've known forever. We're actively looking for our castmates, and they're not there. It's weird."
Beyond just the new location and crew, Morgan has noticed another big difference between the old show and new — the workload. The Walking Dead has a main cast of over 20 people for its final season, plus other recurring characters, which meant plenty of time off so everyone's stories could be served. Not so on Dead City.
Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan on 'The Walking Dead'

| CREDIT: JOSH STRINGER/AMC
"The two of us are on set 24-7 every day," says Morgan. "And that's also odd. We've had such a big cast for so long. You work three days an episode and then you're working on the next one. And now I'm struggling to stay f---ing five seconds ahead of what we're doing tomorrow!"
But, alas, some things never change. "Negan's back to f---ing chatting up a storm," notes the actor about what we can expect from his character on the new show. "So it's been fun and it's very familiar, and yet it's different and it's new. What's really great is that Lauren and I are together, and that [showrunner Eli Jorné] wrote these stories that I think are f---ing outstanding. Trust me, I would not have continued this role otherwise."
Judging by the frenzy currently happening in the Garden State around filming, it would seem Morgan is not the only one enthused about the new take on the old character. "There's been 200 people out to watch us film, which reminds me very much of how it was when I first got on The Walking Dead," Morgan says. "It was that kind of excitement and fan mania. And so to have that again, it's super cool."

The Walking Dead premiere flashes back to the very beginning

Showrunner Angela Kang shares behind-the-scenes intel on opening flashback montages that will begin each of the remaining 11C episodes.

By Dalton RossOctober 03, 2022 at 08:00 AM EDT

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Walking Dead season 11C premiere, "Lockdown."
The end of The Walking Dead is going all the way back to the beginning. The Sunday night premiere for the last batch of TWD episodes ever kicked off in unconventional fashion with the voice of Judith (Cailey Fleming) telling viewers, "I've heard a lot of stories about when the world fell. There were more dead than living, and it started to look like the world would go cold."
As Judith kept speaking, we saw images from the very first ever episode of the series, with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) waking up in the hospital. Images then flashed from throughout the 11 seasons, including a montage of baddies like Shane, the Governor, Negan, Beta, Alpha, and Leah. What was the inspiration for this throwback? How was it put together? And will we see more of these scenes throughout the season?

We spoke to showrunner Angela Kang about this blast from the past, as well as everything else that went down in the 11C premiere — including Mercer (Michael James Shaw) giving a Commonwealth pass to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) sending out the goon squad, and Carol (Melissa McBride) making a risky deal.

Andrew Lincoln on 'The Walking Dead'

| CREDIT: AMC
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Let's talk about the very start of the episode. We hear this narration from Judith and see this montage of images going all the way back to Rick waking up in the hospital. Where did this idea come from?
ANGELA KANG:
When we were working on this last block, we were looking for things that would give us a sense of history, because the Commonwealth thematically has so much to do with who were you before, and you're stuck being that. And I think the story for our characters is, can we grow from who we were before? I was talking to [Walking Dead chief content officer Scott M. Gimple] and he pitched this great idea of "What if you do these opening montages in some kind of way?" The concept for it was a little different, but then we kind of landed on this particular way that the narration works.

And when we pitched that idea to AMC, they really loved it too and felt that it kind of added something to the season and still felt organically integrated with the particular community we were telling a story about. So it was something that we had a lot of fun writing, and that the editors really had a great time pulling together these pieces. It's one of those things that just kind of seem to work for the story we were telling.
So these are going to continue throughout the rest of the season?
These continue. There's a bit of a concept to these.
Are these modeled or inspired by the end of the Walking Dead comic with Carl reading to his kid?
Once we kind of took that baton from Scott, there was some talk of "How do we tie the feel to some of the comic stuff?" And so that is one of the pieces of inspiration that goes into this, without being literal.
How are you going to thematically organize them? In this one, we saw some big villains. Will other opening montages focus on other things?
Yeah, each opening montage will have some sort of tie to what's going on in the episode, either thematically or a character that we're exploring in that episode. And so you'll have to watch and see how it all plays out. But also, if you listen to the voice-overs, it's telling a story, too.

Jon Bernthal on 'The Walking Dead'

| CREDIT: SCOTT GARFIELD/AMC
Lord knows you had plenty of options to choose from. What is it like putting these together and deciding what are those most impactful and emotional images to use?
These montages were actually really, really hard to cut. Every version of them started with writers writing them. And so a lot of times the writers picked certain shots to include that felt maybe thematically appropriate. But then, of course, it has to work as a picture. So then the editors did their pass. They would use what the writers gave, the directors would weigh in, I would weigh in, but the editors really went to town by going, "Here's how we would fill out with lots of options." And every single version of the editor's initial pass was too long.
I wish we could make of a movie of what all of those were, because I'm sure it's an interesting trip down memory lane, but within the episode themselves… (A) We didn't have enough run time for it, and (B) they end up feeling too long. You want to get into the story. But it gave us a wealth of options to choose from. And honestly, it was hard, because a lot of times I'd be like, "Yeah, I understand why you picked all of these images, but let's do a trim-down." And I really like to empower the editors as much as possible to do some of their own creative choices. And I love when directors come in with a vision for some of this stuff. So I think it's truly a collaboration.
And by the time you see the end product, it's like all the main creatives that have worked on this have a bit of a hand in it, but I take the final pass. And a lot of it is just, "I think that these images stand out the most," or feel like it supports the story piece the most. Sometimes there's even just stuff like clearance issues that are going on behind the scenes. But for the most part, we're always just going for what feels like it fits what Judith is narrating, but also what is a nice kind of trip down memory lane.
Okay, let's get into a few other things: Why does Mercer let Negan into the Commonwealth?
With Mercer, he's been on kind of a journey throughout the season too. You see that he really has very mixed feelings about the things that happen in the Commonwealth. But he's a person who is very rules-oriented, and he feels like he has taken a job of service and he's a patriot to his community. And so he's at this crossroads, but he's kind of moving to a mindset of what is the letter of the law, and what is just or right? He's kind of in that headspace. And by him letting Negan through the gates, that's just saying something about where Mercer is in his own journey, as deciding what is the right thing to do.

What can you say about these Hornsby goons that Carol and the kids are hiding from?
We've always considered Hornsby as having his hands in a lot of pots, and this is his own little squad of people that are pulling missions. And we've seen both of them before. This is the fake Stephanie that sort of duped Eugene, and it's Calhoun that was in on things, and they're still out there pulling high jinks for Hornsby. But the thing with Hornsby is, he can present sometimes as genial, and there is that side of him that's earnest. But he can also be scary and an operator. So the fact that these people are roaming around looking to nab children and our people is not a good sign.
Carol comes up with this plan to pin everything on Lance Hornsby so he can't keep coming after her friends, but should she trust Pamela Milton (Laila Robins)?
I think that the calculus that Carol is making is, there are certain things that are so important to Pamela that she may be a willing participant in a deal, if that helps clean up her bad press and helps save her son. And what do our people care? They're going to head out of here. And I don't think that that calculation is necessarily wrong on Carol's part.

Laila Robins and Teo Rapp-Olsson on 'The Walking Dead'

| CREDIT: JACE DOWNS/AMC
What can you say about what's coming up next?
We've got two sides that are entrenched, but actually there's even a third side, because there's the Hornsby piece because he's out there doing his own thing. And all parties need to figure out, is there a way forward? Is this all going to explode into war? What's going to happen next? And I don't think any of them know what the next step is. And so there's going to be some great action and turns, and hopefully the audience will be surprised by the fun that ensues.

Watched the first two episodes of the final season last night.

They somewhat took it back to the first season in tone bringing in the Walkers and having them do their thing. We haven’t seen the Walkers actually do anything for about the last 4 seasons.

They got really graphic in showing the Walkers take down folks. Haven’t seen that in a long time in this series.

Right now things are calming down from the last 2 seasons and they are getting ready to bring all the characters back to end the season.

Along with setting up the 3 new spin-off seasons to debut next year.

The Rick/Michonne series I’m interested in the most. The last we saw him was getting hauled off in the Circle Republic helicopter. So I’m wondering where the series is going to start, pre-helicopter or after?

The next interesting one is Daryl. The series was supposed to with him and Carol. But the actress playing Carol came out that she couldn’t do the series cuz it’s filming on location in Europe. The big question is how the Fuck does Daryl get his Ass to Europe from the US. I suspect it may have something to do with the after credit scene in “The World Beyond”.

Negan and Maggie. I suspect with them together, they gonna be a couple and start Fuckin’. But Hershel has made it clear to Negan he ain’t forgiving him for killing his Daddy. And he ain’t going for Negan Fuckin’ his mother for sure. So that will be a interesting sub-plot of that series.

Fear of the Walking Dead looks to be moving up as the Flagship show.

Looking forward to the new series.

Gonna let a few episodes stack up before watching again.

Episodes 19 and 20

Just watched these two earlier.

Governor Pamela is kicking it up after her son got killed. She got her hands on Lance.

Episode 19 went slow until the end introducing a new type of Walker. That mofo caught Aaron and the group off guard cuz they thought it was a Whisperer.

That was the highlight of that episode.

Episode 20 was a slow burn until the end.

Nice scene with Carol going against walkers on her own. Had a video game first person feel to it. Good gory graphics with the walkers.

Daryl and Carol went in on Lance’s dumbass. He had a interesting reveal we will see in the next episode.

Episode ended with suspense which will lead into this week’s episode.

The final episodes are moving ok so far.

Will let a couple more episodes stack up.

It's still watchable, but it's not must see tv anymore. There was a time when I'd refuse to go to sleep without watching the ep I dvr'd, but now sometimes I'm rushing to watch an episode that I taped a week ago before watching the current ep.

I just been wishing that they'd hurry up and link up to the Rick storyline, but now it looks like they won't

.
man, they really milked this for 10 plus years

and you guys are still watching

Episode 21

Picked up directly after E20.

Maggie, Gabriel and Rosita got separated from their kids. They managed to escape and later found out along with Maggie, Daryl and Carol where the convoy and train was headed.

Ezekiel, Kelly, Neagan and Annie have been separated from the others in their group and sent to Outpost 22.

Finally got to see to see Daryl do a motorcycle cycle chase in this episode.

Episode felt more like a filler to lead into the next 3 episodes.

Proceeding onto Episode 22….

Episode 22

Ezekiel and Neagan at Outpost 22 hesitantly decided to team up to leader a labor revolt against the Warden.

Aaron and his group received bad news about Oceanside from 2 cast mates we have not seen for a couple of seasons.

Eugene stood trial for killing the Governor’s dumbass son, but it’s looking like things are going to go in a new direction with Mercer siding with Eugene.

Getting ready for episode 23…

Episode 23

All characters in this episode and from the series, slowly start to get together to take on Outpost 22.

And the episode ended the way the Walking Dead used to be with full blown action and suspense.

Never expected what happened to Judith to happen in this series. Curious to see if she makes it too the end.

Neagan and the Commonwealth’s Guard’s response to the new Walker’s was good.

Series Finale is looking to be full blown action from start to finish.

And it looks like some or a majority of characters are not gonna make it.

Looking forward to the Series Finale tonight!!!
