Ted Dibiase was scheduled to win the World Title at WM originally, but WWF changed their plans at the last minute. Literally, a few days before the show.

It all started from the Honky Tonk Man as he refused to lose the IC belt back to Savage(fearing they had nothing planned for him after which they didn't) and threaten to jump to the nwa with it

then Savage went nuts and was promised the title at mania

He was then gonna drop it to Dibiase who would then drop it back to Hogan at mania but the mega powers exploding became a better storyline

Dibiase got screwed by being the only professional

Honky Tonk Man also refused to put over Bret Hart and bad news brown until finally seeing dollar signs in the Ultimate Warrior

Yep. And Vince never let him even sniff another title in the WWF again.
Ted was the runner up to Ric Flair in 81 when the NWA selected a champion to replace Harley Race. Ted Dibiase, always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

Same here. I still vaguely remember Ric Flair and Blackjack Mulligan being NWA tag champs and when guys who are retired now just were breaking in, like Terry Taylor.

I grew up in AWA(Gagne, Bobwinkle) territory. Also the AWA was the umbrella promotion for the WWA World Wrestling Association which was an AWA satelite and saw guys like Bobo Brazil, Dick The Bruiser, The Crusher, Ray The Crippler Stevens, and Spike Huber So I grew up on the Gagne's, Nick Bobwinkle, Ken Patera, Baron Von Raske, Jesse Ventura, and Hulk Hogan before he blew up big in WWF in 1984. Speaking of WWF (pre Wrestlemania) I used to catch on WOR station based in Seacaucus NJ and thought they had a great product with the likes of Andre, Bob Backlund, Jimmy Snuka, Rocky Johnson, Don Muraco, Pedro Morales, the Wild Somoans, and the Strongbows. In the early 80's I was hooked on WTBS World Championship Wrestling(formerly Georgia Championship Wrestling) and was extremely geeked when Mid-South got on WTBS:yes:, then I used to love visiting my family in Mississippi just to watch Mid-South Wrestling, Also our local channels channels also carried World Class Championship Wrestling(ran by the Von Erich's who controlled east texas and Southwest Championship Wrestling(Jose Lothario) which controlled western texas. I used to buy Pro Wrestling Illustrated back in day as well as other wrestling mags. I used to love Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranking position esecially the Most Hated I was a huge Butch Reed fan and was impressed at how long he stayed # 1 on that list for a stretch of months in 1983 with his heel turn on JYD in Mid South. Easily the best heat for a black heel since Ernie Ladd turned heel in the late 1970's with famous heel turns on Cowboy Bob Ellis(1st heel turn I think) and Dusty Rhodes.

~Vince McMahon Says He Needs Smackdown To Be The Number 1 Brand~
1287605013.jpg

WrestleZone has exclusively learned that in more than one creative meeting over the past two weeks, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has informed the writers that he wants Smackdown to be "treated as the number one brand," including opening up the possibility of more trades in order to strengthen the brand.

McMahon feels that a sub-par rating for Smackdown on SyFy would injure WWE's standing with NBC-U, who McMahon is looking to for help in launching the proposed WWE Network. While some on the writing staff are actually trying to come up with scenarios that would include trades or Smackdown getting more exposure (like winning the battle royal tonight on Raw), others on the writing staff have not jumped at this latest "fire alarm" (as a creative team member described it tonight), saying "this is just how Vince reacts to pressure. He says this about all major groups and factions."

Its All About the Moneyyyyyyyyyyyy

So basically, Smackdown's going to win at Bragging Rights. I thought Raw's team looked kinda weak.

When I lived in Chicago it was the WWF and occasionally some NWA. When I moved to Atlanta it became the opposite. I remember there being a block from about 8 to around 2 or 3 in the morning every Saturday night of nothing but wrestling WWF,USWA,etc.

I'm not suprised by this. When Smackdown was on My Network tv and they were not going to keep it there and instead switch over to SyFy the higher ups basically pulled some of the A listers off Smackdown namely Edge and Jericho and put them on Raw basically giving Smackdown low ratings until the switch to SyFy and now Edge is back and once Jericho returns he will go back as well.If they want Smackdown to be the top show they should have more Raw superstars on there. The Nexus should invade Smackdown as well.If they had a tag-team division it could help Smackdown as well.Who is going to challenge Rhodes and McIntyre ????? Knowing the WWE writers they would probably bring Cryme Tyme back together to feud with them.

Well Dibiase is a former 3-time WWF World Tag Title holder with I.R.S as Money Inc.

Ah man, I used to get PWI every month. I actually had all the centerfolds on an entire wall in my room. I used to get PWI, Inside Wrestling, and The Wrestler.

Even if they have SD win again this year, they'll just do what they did last year, bring them over to Raw and job them out in singles and tag matches.

i must see this!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

I haven't seen any YT or WWE Classics video of it. It was the mid 70s and Crockett didn't always keep stuff on tape. But it was fucking classic. He took out three cards, said they were from some famous actresses of the time and threw away the rest.

Only beef I have with the Warrior was the behind the scenes stuff. Seems like he was too greedy. He wasn't the best wrestler, but he knew how to put on a show and he brought maaaaad energy to his matches. I wish money hadn't got in the way of that cause we missed out on a lot of shit cause he kept rollin out.

Warrior was also know to blow up (get tired) before the match even began because of all that energy. I play as warrior on legends of wrestling showdown for the xbox and that shit is classic, not the best gameplay but wrestling inside of texas stadium with the von erichs is priceless.

i'm not gonna lie but as a kid I wasn't as scared of Jake the Snake as I was of Damien. Whenever he pulled him out I had to cover my eyes but the funniest thing I saw was when the earthquake suashed Damien.

:lol:No shame in being scared of damien hell big bad andre hated that damn snake.

Hahahahhaha i remember that one. And 1989 was NWA best year with in ring action, Muta-Sting, Muta-Steamboat, Steamboat-Flair, Funk-Flair, Tedddy Long being the crooked ref, Luger having his best run as a heel.

89 was a great year for NWA wrestling. I think that's when I really started watching NWA. I watched it b4 that but I really didn't pay it that much attention.

89 was a hell of a year for NWA Wrestling. If I'm not mistaken that was the year of the first Halloween Havoc
