Here is a little history for individuals that are fans of the movies Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick.

The first Top Gun competition was held in 1949. The white pilots competed with the latest state of art aircraft while the African-American pilots were forced to compete with older obsolete planes. After 3 days of competition The Tuskegee Airmen team of : Captain Alva Temple, 1st Lieutenant Harry Stewart, 1st Lieutenant James Harvey, and 1st Lieutenant Halbert Alexander (alternate) were announced the winners.

There was dead silence in the room. Not one of their colleagues applauded this accomplishment. The victory was swept under the rug and the trophy was not seen by the public for 55 years. Introducing the real Top Guns.

Good flick but eh? Totally unrealistic. Saw the movie on Friday. This should have been named MI Top Gun cause shit was mad ridiculous in it. Gimme a second and I’ll chop it up. Looked like Su-57s which aren’t true 5th Gen fighters and aren’t operational but man….an F14 beating them….only in dreams.

I was in the Air Force. Before that I was in Air Force jr ROTC in High School which basically discussed Air Force history and this was not in those books.

They barely had anything in the literature when I came in about them or the 99th Pursuit Squadron.

The kid, and adult in me, loved the aircraft scenes and the combat strategy talk.

All that other shit was super corny and formulated bullshit. I just started FF through anything that wasn't flight related.

Gonna watch it again and just watch the flight scenes.

Still haven’t seen it.

Will watch it on Paramount+ next month.

'Top Gun: Maverick' Release Date Revealed for Paramount Plus

Philiana Ng*
November 22, 2022

Top Gun: Maverick is headed to Paramount+. The Tom Cruise blockbuster, which earned nearly $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, will hit the streaming service in the U.S. starting Thursday, Dec. 22, it was announced Tuesday.

The Top Gun sequel, originally released in theaters in May, will also be streamed that day in Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy, as well as previously announced territories, the U.K. and Latin America. The movie will be available in South Korea and France next year.

Top Gun: Maverick finds Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise) where he belongs, after more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators. He's pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.” Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Greg Tarzan Davis, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer also star in the film.

Watch the promo announcement below.

Teller spoke with ET's Kevin Frazier at a celebrity golf tournament, American Century Championship presented by American Century Investments, in July, where the actor revealed he's spoken to Cruise about a potential third Top Gun movie.

"That would be great, but that's all up to TC," he said of Cruise, who starred in the 1986 original film. "It's all up to Tom. I've been having some conversations with him about it. We'll see."

Jesus christ. I haven't even seen the first one. Might check both out since everything else getting too damn weird. This movie did numbers off word of mouth strength that it wasn't on modern hollyweird shit. Lesson in there somewhere for all the studios.

Me, the wife and my two sons watched this flick last night on Paramount+ for the first time while eating dinner.

We watched the first one a few months ago to get up to speed.

The movie was enjoyable to watch and the story was presented well.

As a military vet, I immediately saw it followed the same tone as the first movie being completely inaccurate In basically everything. It had to be in order to be believable.

The first is no way Maverick would have made it past 4 years in the NAVY after the first flick with his crazy shenanigans. During that time period the Navy was on a warpath cleaning itself up after the infamous Tailhook scandal. The Government would have stripped his pilots license and he would have been a manager working at Walmart by 1990. We wouldn’t have a story if that happened.

The planned attack was pure comedy. No way would the Pentagon send in 4 F-18s on a mission like that. A couple of B-2 Stealth bombers or Stealth drones with Smart bombs would have been sent in and carpet bomb that mountain to a pile of rocks. We wouldn’t have a story if that had happened.

The comedy with the attack, which I’m surprised nobody has pointed out was that they completely stole the whole thing from Episode 4 of Star Wars with Luke Skywalker going in on the Death Star. The shit played out exactly like the movie. When the laser guidance system went out for the bombs, I was waiting for Obi Won to say “Rooster, Use The Force!”.

HaHa!!!

Overall it was an enjoyable film for what it was. They left it off easily for sequels/franchise without using Tom Cruise (Maverick) as the main character being no way his Ass can be continuously flying these planes at his age in the Navy.

I give the movie a 7.5/10.

Finally finished it. Family refused to join me

I was thoroughly entertained

Yelled at the screen and completely understand the multiple viewing

Great Easter eggs fun ride looked and sounded great.

Almost family friendly besides the one f word

Shout out Val Kilmer

If this doesn't get sound, editing, cinematography Academy Award nomination? Oscar's still slipping

One of the biggest Easter Eggs in the whole film is Jennifer Connelly’s character. Lot of folks today still have not caught it.

She was in the first “Top Gun” film. But was not seen.

She was only mentioned.

Not gonna spoil it if you haven’t caught it by now.
