Jack Reacher To Compete For Jack Series Dominance At Amazon

There’s about to be some Jack versus Jack action in the stable of Amazon shows. The studio announced today that it is going forward with a series adaptation of the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child, making it the company’s second Jack-based action program after Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Tom Cruise has starred in two movies about the rogue former military man who travels the land serving vigilante justice where he’s needed, but the Amazon series will be a totally new endeavor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scorpion creator Nick Santora is leading development for the project, and will serve as showrunner. There will almost certainly be no Tom Cruise, but Christopher McQuarrie, who directed the first Reacher movie, will executive produce the show.

Cruise was considerably smaller than the textual version of Jack Reacher, who is described as quite huge, so perhaps the next Jack will have a longer reach. At the very least he should be big enough to take down John Krasinski (aka Amazon’s Jack Ryan), because there can only be one supreme Jack around these parts. The Rock is known to have had his eyes on the character in the past, and it would definitely be the right decision for Santora, McQuarrie, and whoever at Amazon it takes to convince Rock to take another series onto his formidable shoulders.

The first one did BETTER overseas than it did in the USA.
But there is a good reason...

2012 - Jack Reacher (Rated PG-13)
Budget: $ 60 Million
US Box-office: $80 Million
Worldwide: $218 Million

The first Jack Reacher movie had some very heavy competition back in 2012  ...
because these 3 movies were all DOMINATING the box-office when it came out...

- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: $1.1 Billion Worldwide
- Django: $425 million worldwide
- Monster Inc (3D): $293 million worldwide

--------------------------------------------
2016 - Jack Reacher 2 (Not Yet Rated :dunno:)
Budget: $96 million

I think some of the success of this sequel might depend on the actual 'MPAA rating' they give it....
because when this next one comes out, the BIGGEST competition at the box-office will be coming from…

- Doctor Strange
- The Magnificent Seven

- Kevin Hart: What Now? :dunno:
- Underworld: Blood Wars :dunno:
- A Madea Halloween

^^ This. Exactly.
The second one did not do as well as the first. Don't know if It was the competition or the material

All Releases
DOMESTIC (36.2%)
$58,697,076
INTERNATIONAL (63.8%)
$103,449,000
WORLDWIDE
$162,146,076

Either way, I'm watching the Amazon Prime show right now and 18 minutes into it I'm loving the dialogue

It says the show runner is Christopher McQuarrie who was the writer for Usual Suspects a couple of the Mission Impossible movies and also the Mummy (Cruise)

If any of you have seen the mummy could you please tell me what is good and bad with that movie and if it's even worth the watch. There are a lot of movies that did not get a lot of Pub or didn't make a lot of money but were still quality movies

I'm a half hour in and this Reacher show definitely has my attention

it was trash....
fucking studios ruined it
It's a difficult thing with sequels. You want to add enough of what people loved about the first movie with some new shit and most people never figure out the balance

Motherfukers like Star Wars just keep on redoing the same movie after the same movie after the same fucking movie and the people are too dumb to recognize that is the same fucking movie except this time it's in a microwave (that bitch's force just magically appeared strong - fuck outta here)

I demand more from my movies being a cinephile. I can't wait to start intro to film in April for my degree.

I gave the second Jack Reacher 6 out of 10 and I was being generous

I was skeptical based on the trailers, the lead actor seemed dry and lacking personality.

But reading some of the reviews in this thread I might have to check it out.

Still, I fucked with the first movie but was disappointed by the second like most.

I think Cruise did a damn good job but wasn't given a chance by the audiences since he didn't match the description of the character in the books.

This is some perfect casting right here from top to bottom.

That men fills the screen and you never know exactly what he is going to do but you always now it seething just below a thin surface.

That woman holding her own against him in every scene.

EVERYONE looks so small next to Jack

That being said....

I actually liked Cruise and it was a testament to his acting and confidence that he pulled off that performance especially vs. the source material.

Cruise brought a cold menace to Reacher that complimented the way the screenplay was written, first movie was different from the books but good

this version is a less calculating less menacing version but angrier...

The Tom Cruise version is horrible. It was so bad, Paramount canceled a future monster series in which Cruise's Mummy was to be start of it (think Godzilla and King Kong type of series).

Do you know how bad a Cruise film has to be that a studio was willing to kill off a franchise?

It was bad but I think it wasn't horrible. It didn't make sense and the acting was questionable and some of the action scenes were a tad disorganized but aside from that?

It was OK.

When he says NO...

just says NO.

or when he just stands there in complete silence and you see him assessing exactly how he will completely annihilate everyone and everything in front of him.

OK in fact I will say this..

the opening scene off the bus episode one

in front of the diner

when he looks at the asshole threatening his wife in front of the trunk?

Might be one of the BEST character introductions with absolutely no dialogue from the main character ever on TV.

You're right. Tom Cruise is a big little guy. I can't see anybody else besides pulling it off. Jeremy Renner, no. I can't see nobody else pulling it off better than Tom Cruise. He played that role big as hell
