So basically one of Putin's desires was to put Trump in command so that he could use his connections to lean Trump into insuring that the Magnitsky Act would be repealed. Mainly because if you look at the names of the 18 people listed on the Magnisky Act... they all have direct ties to Putin. I wonder if Putin used third party intermediaries have some of his personal assets laundered through these individuals.. and when the US froze these people's assets... it directly hit Putin. We all know he is one of the richest people in the world.. but he is also extremely smart.
The Russians likely desired to attempt to Hack into our Election network not just to ensure that Trump was elected but to ensure that the Repubs controlled the house and the senate.. all three things needs to likely get these sanctions removed and free up the assets.
That meeting itself was likely a straight test the waters meeting... Chick didn't know Trump Jr from a hole in the wall.. You dont come to that meeting with all your cards in the deck. You bring a nibble that doesn't implicate you. She probably mentioned the Magnitsky Act to see what his fathers position would be on it. Using the pretext of the Magnitsky Act is just a test to see 'how receptive' Team Trump is to removing sanctions.
It's like a scientific test, so to speak.
They can't start with the biggest whale.
They gotta start with smaller fish... and use those to catch the big whale.
