Sweet Home
2020

6.5/10

This is a horror series that plays out more like a character drama.

It debuted around December of last year and I been watching about a episode a week.

This is a slow series. It's why I been watching about a episode a week.

It does have action and suspense in each episode, but it's not enough to hold you. This is not a series if you suffer from TV ADHD, if you suffer from it, you will not make it past episode one for sure.

The SFX and VFX is done well with the monsters and violence. The series looks godd and clean visually. The premise is interesting and it does play out well.

For the Thirsty, there are a couple of cuties in the series. No nudity or sexy outfits are worn, so don't get yourself excited.

If you looking for something to watch to stretch out over some time, this should do. There are 10 episodes that run for about 45min.

The series is from Korea and Netflix has it dubbed in English. Subtitles are used when signage is shown.

Synopsis

As humans turn into savage monsters, one troubled teenager and his neighbours fight to survive and to hold onto their humanity.

Sweet Home
Season 2

5/10

The 2nd season debuted this past New Years weekend and I finished it up this morning at home.

The season picks up directly after the events of season one, the main change is the characters are out of the apartment complex and out in the world.

The season is a slow burn like the first. The season doesn’t hold up as the first mainly due to the fact in the first season the characters were stuck in a apartment complex not knowing what was going on along with trying to figure out how to fight the monsters with hand made weapons. This season the military is involved using heavy weapons which takes away from the suspense.

We get a good amount of information on the monsters and how the government/private sector is involved. New characters are introduced.

The seasons last two episodes tried to go the same direction as first season but fell flat. The final scene sets it up for a 3rd season along with taking it too a different direction than seasons 1/2.

Season 3 has been completed and Netflix plans on releasing it later this year. Like I pointed out, it’s a slow burn series. I pretty much watched one episode a week to allow me to soak it in. It’s not a binge watching series, especially if you suffer from TV ADHD.

Season 3
Final Season
8 Episodes

4.5/10

The final season debuted last summer and I finally got around to watching it this past week on the road.

The series originally debuted on Netflix back in 2020 during the pandemic. When production went down during the shutdown, Netflix pulled series from various Netflix’s from around the world to American Netflix to fill in the shortage. This was one of the series I got into that came from Korean Netflix.

The first season was heavy with monsters and their interactions with humans. The 2nd season went into a different direction introducing new characters and continued with monster/human interactions. Season 3 mainly focuses on bringing the surviving characters together to close out series.

The first 2 seasons had action/suspense with slow parts. The final season falls flat with no monster action and just lots of talking.

The series ends closing out all the characters storylines. It somewhat ends for a spinoff series. But I doubt that will happen.

Overall, the series plays out like a live action Anime series. The recent LA fires has delayed productions, so there is a high chance later this year that new releases will be delayed into 2026.

If you looking for something to fill in the gap later this year, this series will do.

Joko Anwar's Nightmares and Daydreams
2024
7 Episodes

4.5/10

This series debuted last summer and I watched it this week on the road. The mini-preview Netflix has for it caught my attention, so that’s why I watched it.

It’s an Sci-Fi anthology series from Indonesia. It has a vibe like the classic “Twilight Zone” and “Outer Limits”.

The episodes are a real slow burn, some are better than others. I was close to giving up on it around episode 3 until I noticed that there was a common theme on what was going on. Without spoiling it, the series episodes are are connected which is revealed in the last 2 episodes.

The finale leads off to go directly into a season 2. No word at this time if Netflix plans on renewing it.

Not much for VFX/SFX. What is shown is on the level of what you see in “Arrowverse” shows.

Indonesia has strict censorship standards, so no graphic violence or nudity. Netflix has the series dubbed in English, subtitles used for signage.

Being Hollywood productions have been stalled due to the LA fires, this is an interesting series to fill in the gap until your regular shows return.

Synopsis

Tales of supernatural sci-fi phenomena unfold in this collection of seven mind-bending stories imagined by writer-director Joko Anwar.

The Recruit
2022

7.5/10

This series debuted this past December. It is a comedy, thriller series. I sat on it cuz as you know Netflix loves canceling series.

I was doing my monthly check going thru my stored list earlier this month to get status on series, and surprisingly this series got renewed for a 2nd season. So that’s why I decided to watch it. I started watching it last week on the road and finished this morning.

I was curious on why this series got such a quick renewal and discovered that Netflix got slammed with requests from viewers to renew the series ASAP. The series was in the top 10 for over a week, which is typical for new series. I doubt this series registered high on Netflix’s algorithms for viewership. I suspect Netflix went into panic mode after the recent blowback they been getting for abruptly cancelling good series before they had a chance to develop and gather a large audience thru word of mouth.

The main plot of the series has been done on a number of series/movies since the 1960s, so nothing new. The comedy is with the main character who is a recent Georgetown law graduate hired onto the CIA’s General Counsel. He is not a trained CIA operative and has no espionage training. The comedy is with him bumbling his way and getting himself deeper into the world of espionage. That sub-plot is similar to “Breaking Bad” Walter White’s character. In this series his law training helps him out.

Character and story development is spread thru-out the series. The opening scene is actually a Fast-Forward scene that happens in the season finale. After that the series starts from the beginning leading up to that opening scene.

The series is full of supporting characters from well known Netflix series/films that have debuted on the service for the past 10+ years. They all do a good job in their roles.

For the Thirsty, actress Kaylah Zander co-stars. This broad is 100% SMASH material in every scene she is in. This bird kills in every outfit they have her in. There is no nudity or sex scene with her, but there is a few shots showing that body in full glory fully clothed. There is one scene with her walking away down the hallway and you can tell they intentionally filmed it that way.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, there is an openly gay BM, all that is shown is him hopping into the bed with the main character (who is not gay) showing they have a close friendship. There is one scene with the gay BM laying in bed with a WM.

Like I pointed out, this is a comedy series. The comedy is not LOL comedy but done in a subtle way. Like I said the comedy is watching the main character bumble his way thru the series.

The series gives homage to the CIA in certain ways that they operate in the world of espionage. The titles of each episode deals with that on how the CIA speaks in code in abbreviations, cryptonyms, and codewords. The acronyms in the titles are based on dialogue spoken in that episode. Below is what they mean. Try to see if you hear them repeated in their episode.

• Episode 1: "I.N.A.S.I.A.L." = "I’m Not a Spy, I’m a Lawyer"
• Episode 2: "N.L.T.S.Y.P." = "Never Let Them See You Pucker"
• Episode 3: "Y.D.E.K.W.Y.D." = "You Don’t Even Know What You Do"
• Episode 4: "I.Y.D.I.A.A.C." = "If You Do It as Anderson Cooper"
• Episode 5: "T.S.L.A.Y.P." = "That Sounds Like a You Problem"
• Episode 6: "I.C.I.N.C." = "I’m Clenching, I’m Not Clenching"
• Episode 7: "I.M.F.T.B.S." = "It’s My First Time Being Sexpionaged"
• Episode 8: "W.T.F.I.O.H." = "Who the F—k Is Owen Hendricks?"

If you watch the series, pay close attention to what it is going on, even the slow, minor parts cuz the series takes a turn in the final episode. The final scene is what will hook you into wanting a season 2 ASAP.

Synopsis

A fledgling CIA lawyer gets caught up in a dangerous game of international politics when a former asset threatens to expose the nature of her relationship with the agency unless they clear her name.

The Recruit
Season 2
6 Episodes

6/10

I started watching the new season this morning at home and finished this afternoon.

It picked up immediately after the events of the season 1 finale. All the major surviving supporting characters return.

Owen gets involved with a new case in Korea.

There is still some sexual tension between Lester and Violet. Amelia still looking Smashable. Nichka is running around like the “Black Widow”.

General Counsel Nyland and CIA Operative Dawn are still driving themselves crazy dealing with Owen.

There is some interesting “Conspiracy” stuff involving Cryptocurrency that will have you thinking twice about getting involved with it.

Like the first season, you have to watch with disbelief as Owen engages in hand to hand combat with experienced fighters and manages to get out of trouble. He does it again this season a few times.

Also like the first season. Episode titles are acronyms that are spoken fully in the episode.

The season is two episodes shorter than season one. It has the same flow/pace as the first.

The season closed out the main plot line and did not introduce anything new. The series is ranked in Netflix top 10, so good chance it’s getting high viewership.

No word on a 3rd season renewal.

I loved that first season completely unexpected fun ride.

Rumor is the numbers were SUPER SOLID and they definitely locked in for a season 3

But this is Netflix so there is NEVER a definite.

The new season of MO was a surprising emotional roller coaster. Definitely turned a mirror towards the current climate of the world.
A couple of characters were obnoxious but they hit it out of the park in so many ways when it came to family, and relationships and truly embracing your familial roots
