NEVER EXCESSIVE? I don't know about that! But it it is used well to move the story FORWARD and show the conflict within the lead character.
In the show, Aaron is shown having sex with men, sneaking glances at men's genitals and looking at other men while the Florida Gators fuck a slew of groupies in a dorm room.
This is used effectively to establish the fact that Aaron is gay and is struggling with his sexuality which is one of the root causes of his violent behavior. Along with a scene that alludes to CSA.
They didn't go overboard and show Aaron banging some twink in an alleyway in Boston or giving a married closet case a blowjob in a public park at night, just because they can because the show is being streamed (as well as broadcasted).
