Unsure of travel plans at the moment. Going to plan in the next few months. Have 7 weeks of vacation, and a week or two in lieu days earned by the next few months.

Talked to a friend of mine from another work location ... he's leaving for the Bahamas on Saturday morning.

I was out in Madrid this past November, my first Euro trip but I'm looking fwd to getting back across the pond in the warmer months to see what it do.

..I've never been on a cruise, but this chick I'm seeing right now has been talking them up so I may try one out.
I've always wanted to hit up Mexico and heard good things about Belize so visiting both in the same cruise might be the move

Have a good time fam, let us know how it was

Headed to Orlando in March then Barcelona in April. Can't wait!

Change of plans, headed to Madrid. Airbnb'ing it with the wife. I'll make sure to exchange for some euro at the bank before I fly out.

@Madrox how was the city? Food? Any thing I should look out for?

You probably know all this, but:

I thought getting some Euros beforehand was the move too, but did some research and ended up hitting up an ATM after I checked into my hotel (Santander) and paid no fees (ATM OR exchange/transaction fees) using my CapitalOne 360 Checking Debit Card. CC-wise I used my Chase Sapphire Reserve, also no foreign transaction fees. Purchases were definitely WAY cleaner compared to last time I travelled abroad pre-pandemic.

Also, they don't have Uber there, but they do have Lyft. So make sure your app is updated or you d/l it if you need it.

Moving on: The city was cool to me. I didn't see a ton of other black folk (chopped it up for a sec with some Africans outside of San Miguel Market), otherwise I just did my thing minded my own biz and no one really gave me eyes or came off any type of way. This being my first trip out there everything was new to me so it was cool to just try to vibe out. I stayed at the Hard Rock (Atocha), did a lot of walking in that area, hit up the big park over there (Retiro) and took the subway to other neighborhoods to visit some spots that I bookmarked on Google Maps or IG.

Food was decent. Had tapas a few times, did a Wine and Tapas Tour one of the last nights, ate a lot of fast food too though. Here are some links:

El Retiro Park
Mas Al Sur
San Miguel Market
Burnout Burgers
Takos Al Pastor

Wine & Tapas Tour - this is that tour I mentioned, and here are the spots included if you wanted to do them on your own:
Plaza Mayor
La Casa De Abuelo
Casa Toni
Mesón del Champiñón
Casa Labra

Royal Armoury - I wanted to go here but it was closed for a special event the day that I went (my last day there). But it's at the Royal Palace and I think the grounds themselves are still always open to the public.

Finally: the chicks weren't all that to me. At all. Everyone kind of looked the same and I didn't find myself breakin' my neck anywhere close to a regular day here in NYC. And I do be reckless-eyeballing HARD AF. But I def felt like Madrid was lacking or maybe I was in the wrong spots.

Just touched down in Nassau. We're staying at the Riu Paradise palace. Its an all inclusive spot so the drinks and food are covered which is cool but..... I need to get some smoke. Any suggestions? Help a brother out

A friend just got back from there a week ago Saturday. Stayed at an Airbnb with some friends & enjoyed it. Sorry - they don't smoke / can't help you on that.

Man I appreciate the advice especially the CC suggestion. Just came back from Madrid. Stayed at an Airbnb in the Las Letras neighborhood (not far from Atocha, I think) which was near city center. Really nice top floor apartment with walking distance to a ton of restaurants and metro.

We visited Retiro Park, Plaza Mayor, Anton Martin market, saw the Royal Palace, did a food tour, took a high speed train out to Valencia for the birthday, got out to the beach, did wine tour/event where we ate tapas and dranked wine on the rooftop of this high ass building allowing you to see all of Valencia.

The one thing about Spain is people believe in that work life balance. The US should take a few cues. Other things I learned:

  1. Wine is cheap. Like €3 a glass cheap. Beer was cheap (€1-2) too but the spots I went to, the beer glasses were small compared to US standards. 4 glasses of decent wine for the price of 1 US glass of house wine.
  2. Tipping isn't expected and 10% is the max. I fucked up and gave a waiter 20% early on in the vacation and dude acted like he hit the lottery. Came back and gave me and the wife 2 free shots of liquor.
  3. When you order food, you get additional small appetizers at no cost. Shit still blows my mind. And, croquetas with that Iberico were ordered everytime I had a chance.
  4. 2nd breakfast is a lifestyle. Basically, a 2nd breakfast break where folks leave work and go eat breakfast. Went to this spot called Chocolat where they were known for making Porras (giant churros; no powdered sugar or cinnamon) which were dipped in a cup of this dark chocolate ganache.
  5. Spain gets a lot of fucking sunlight. Sun was up at 6-7 and setting at like 9 something. And it gets hot. Was like 90s for a bit then finally cooled off.

That's what's up! Glad to hear that some of my feedback helped.

Ya'll definitely did a LOT more than me, so I'm taking notes for next time. Valencia sounds cool, I def want to hit multiple cities in the next trip for sure. I did notice that wine is cheap and I like Spanish wine to begin with (Rioja specifically) which was one of the draws in the first. I forgot about the tipping situation, but you right about that too. Oh and I had those churros with the warm chocolate dip at San Miguel which was awesome.

Your trip sounded dope maaaan ... I'ma gone ahead and do some research this weekend now
