Church girls from Jamaica Queens were not outside back in the 80's. The key words in her post are "Church Girl and I think". She wasn't outside. At her age she would have known Puerto Ricans were outside at USA skating rink in Queens, which was a safe space for people from Queens/Jamaica. Anyone talking in this post that wasn't outside late 70's early 80's is speculating. I was outside late 80's Eric B. & Rakim, Juice Crew days and remember Puerto Ricans being part of the culture till the Club Music faze, Noel, India all the way to K7.
As far as Kool Herc I was outside early 2000's when, RIP Justo had his mixtape awards show at the Apollo Theatre. Every Thug, Hip Hop head, drug dealer, pimp and prostitute was up in there when; Kool Herc walked up in there and stopped the show. He checked Justo and everyone in the house for not inviting or recognizing him as the founding father of the mixtape. Not only was the hole theatre quiet as he gave a brief history, he also got a standing ovation. If Herc could claim the mixtape and no one challenged him that day, no one here can say anything different about his contribution to Hip Hop.
