Regular people have been concerned with Biden's age for a long time. The number one word voters associate with him is old. Especially low information voters.

^^^ This is one of my favorite podcasts, I listen to it every weekend. Focus groups are a good way to learn from particular groups all across the country.

The big problem for Biden is that this was not the start, it was the boiling point. Regular people have been concerned about his age for hi entire presidency and the debate put it front and center for everyone.

This is a smart move from Biden's team. It will be his first opportunity to speak and act as a president without having every sentence scrutinized. Not much press is going to be willing to (publicly) look at this from a political competence and horserace angle. And Biden will probably do a good job with something like this.
