don't even know what you mean, but that slap being triggered by something his dad did back in the day sounds like a bullshit reach

not really...people can act on childhood traumas...stuff like abuse or witnessing abuse of a loved one that leave a feeling of powerlessness can affect a person long into their adult life. Not a reach at all.

Nah it's cause he was tired of people making fun of them. Jada was in no danger. Everyone had moved past the joke. When you really defend someone, you are protecting them from something bad that is about to happen to them. Whether it's physical or verbal. Even shielding them from an insult counts as defending someone. There was nothing to protect Jada from at that moment.

Ninjas are writing excuses for dudes now?

When you incels going to own up to what you did and stop making excuses.

Shit at least let the man come up with his own, smdh.

If he actually felt that way he would not have laughed. Regardless of how he felt or what triggered him going full neega is never the answer.

The trigger wasn't the joke it was his wife's reaction. She was not amused and looked like :rolleyes2: :smh: and in that moment he may have felt like heres another woman he loves hurt and he should do something about that. No one is excusing it... but cats on social media find it easier to believe that a cuckholded Will smith was manipulated by an evil Jada Pinkett...but the idea that Will watching yet ANOTHER woman he loves be hurt by a man (in this case in public fashion) and he's again standing by watching helplessly.....not THIS time. Was what he did excessive? YES..... but clearly he felt the need to DO something.

A powerful and tragic insight is provided by a searing passage in his memoir, Will, published last year. In talking about his complicated relationship with his father, an Air Force veteran and alcoholic who died in 2016, Will revealed an obviously traumatizing episode of his childhood. He described how, as a 9-year-old child, he witnessed a terrible episode of domestic violence:

“I watched my father punch my mother in the side of the head so hard that she collapsed…I saw her spit blood. That moment in the bedroom, probably more than any other moment in my life, has defined who I am.”

Will Smith went on to explain:

“Within everything that I have done since then — the awards and the accolades, the spotlights and attention, the characters and the laughs — there has been a subtle string of apologies to my mother for my inaction that day. For failing her in that moment. For failing to stand up to my father. For being a coward.”

He saw his wife hurt in the moment and decided to do something about it rather than have another shoulda coulda woulda...

Of all the theories why can't this one be a possibility??
This definitely has merit and could easily be a life-defining traumatic event.

This man has a million responses in the 125+ page Will slapped Chris Rock thread and made a WHOLE NEW thread about the same topic spewing the same male feminist rhetoric that Jada and black women are the victims here.

Bruh, we get it... You iron your cape for black women daily. How about you go back to the thread that you decided to branch off from and check the poll to see how people feel about the topic. Your point of view has been exhaustively made. Many disagree. Nothing you're saying here hasn't been said in the other thread, Sevin Kamuels.

Bruh I can make as many threads as I want on any topic...you don't like it or are tired of it....don't click that topic.. simple as that:dunno::giggle:

plus THIS thread is about Will's action being triggered by an event involving his FATHER not some affair his wife had. A possibility dudes on here don't even want to consider because why? its easier to blame the woman? What if it was something that had to do with how he father treated his mother the first important woman in his life...ya'll think he wouldn't be triggered by seeing the second important woman in his life and mother of his children made to feel a certain way by some man?? Thats too much of a reach??

Naw lets go with some convoluted thing about jada fucking some other guy somehow made Will slap Chris Rock..

Everyone moved past the joke. Chris didn't keep going at Jada. There was nothing to defend. That was not the action of a person who was protecting someone.

I ain't heard one single reasonable new take for quite awhile

Cause there isn't one.

thats not his explanation.. unless you know more about whats going on Will Smith's head... you can't say how Jada reacted to the joke (as lame as it was) didn't have a trigger effect for him in some way. The speculation is where THAT came from?

Because he's full of shit obviously. I'm saying that you need to be protecting someone from something, even if it's a potential insult, to actually be protecting someone. There was nothing to protect Jada from. There were no further insults coming.

It's like shooting someone in the back as they are walking away from you and you claiming self-defense.

Crazy what narratives folks come up with. Even with this one, we can only speculate because we're not in the Smiths home observing their off-camera lives close up. So, we don't know what all ingredients that went into that slap. Yet this theory sounds plausible because it's based on Will's own words. It's a theory though, not an excuse for what he did.

(CNN) - Will Smith will not be allowed to attend the Academy Awards for the next ten years, as a result of his slapping comedian Chris Rock on-stage during this year's Oscar ceremony, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences announced in a statement obtained by CNN.

"The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards," Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement on Friday.
