I don't know what happened between Chris Rock and Jada but whatever it was he still not over it. And I have a weird feeling he hates Will Smith not just for that slap but because Will got Jada and Rock didn't.

Apparently, before the 2016 Oscars Jada wanted Chris not to host the Oscars because Will didn't get nominated for the movie Concussion. Chris turned her down and made a couple of jokes about her about the situation during the Oscars.

Nah it went longer than that. Seems Chris Rock tried to date Jada and she turned him down and he's never gotten over that. He's been going at her since 1997.

He was on SNL before ILC which I consider more of a white show. He was also in a few black films, so i don't know that black people knew him more for his comedy routines or not early on ( pre HBO SPECIALS). Given that he was on SNL for a few years, it wouldn't surprise me if he did initially have a stronger white audience during that time and before. What I do know is that it's been said that initially Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and Kevin Heart appealed more to white audiences in their early career. Even the comedians he seems to be coolest with ( some relationships from SNL) seem to be white to the point of allowing them to say N....

You're right. I don't care that Chris got smacked or Will hurt his own reputation. I do care that Chris would make a joke using Will's role in Emancipation. It's in poor taste and disrespectful to the real person's memory.

I saw the clip where Chris talked about how his parents raised him. Apparently, the advice he was given was don't fight in front of white people smh. Which has to be a joke considering he earlier stated he felt Will knew he could beat him. That statement implies that you were aware that you'd lose a fight and it had nothing to do with being professional or how he was raised. More importantly, it goes back to the opinion that he is more concerned with appeasing whites.

Truthfully he seemed more hurt than angry at Will. It didn't really come off as jokes as much as giving his perspective.

Dude I dont know how old you are but all being on SNL means is youre a WORKING COMEDIAN. Rock came up in the analog days of the 80s dude...Eddie Murphy put him on...he made his first movie appearance in Beverly Hills Cop 2 then got a job on SNL..like his idol Murphy...because those were the type of gigs ANY COMEDIAN black Asian, Indian, Martian wanted to get back then.

Quick black comic history of the last 50 YEARS. BILL COSBY was the hot young black comic of the late 60s...he was so good that a young Richard Pryor imitated him as he was coming up. Say what you wanna say about Cosby but NO ONE can question his blackness or his positive contributions to black america. After Pryor found his own voice he took off and Eddie Murphy patterned himself after Pryor.

Murphy took his place among stand up comedian legends like Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby before he was thirty. Today's generation really may not fully understand just how big Eddie was in the 80s. Take Will Smith, Jay Z and Chris Rock's fame and star power at the absolute height of their popularity and put that into one person in 1984 and you see what Eddie Murphy was dealing with back then. The leather suits and rock star swagger he embodied was something that was rarely seen in its full form in a black man in mainstream entertainment.

Chris Rock made the observation that before Eddie there was a sidekick way of acting in the past that other black actors did that Murphy never subscribed to. Make no mistake, 48hrs and Trading Places were Nick Nolte and Dan Akroyd lead films. Eddie just shined brighter. His star quality was so big by that time that when the third film he worked on, Best Defense, tanked at the box office people were saying it was his first bomb when in actuality it was a Dudley Moore film. His first leading role was in his fourth movie, Beverly Hills Cop.

and he did all of that with just 2 stand up specials under his belt. And Murphy had a large white audience appeal...NO ONE QUESTIONS HIS BLACKNESS. That was Chris Rocks mentor and the person he imitated. Do you see the pattern yet?

So when a black person today says "a white audience appeal" its because in the last 25 years..YOU HAVE MORE CHOICES. But that shouldn't matter. An ENTERTAINER SHOULD WANT TO APPEAL TO AS BIG AN AUDIENCE AS POSSIBLE. Thats the point. You get to CHOOSE who your audience is and how you can come out and develop youre entertainment career today because you STAND ON THE SHOULDERS of people who came before you who did what they had to do to thrive. And you look down your nose at them.

You're right. I don't care that Chris got smacked or Will hurt his own reputation. I do care that Chris would make a joke using Will's role in Emancipation. It's in poor taste and disrespectful to the real person's memory.
It was a joke aimed at will..period. YOU want to make it an issue of Peter the enslaved person life. If thats the case then do you agree that trans people have a legit beef with Chapelle because his jokes were in poor taste and disrespectful to real people's lives??? its a yes or no question.
Lighten up young buck..life gets waaay more complicated than this.

Chris was sitting his dressing room scribbling notes furiously saying "OH, THIS IS REALLY GONNA PISS WILL OFF!! (maniacal laughter)....again...come on dude.:rolleyes2::rolleyes2::rolleyes2:

2nd youre connecting waaay too many dots to come up with a theory....NONE of it confirmed

ya'll are working too hard to try to wrap this back around to Chris. Literally blaming the victim.

Chris was right back then too. Will Smith did not deserve a nomination for Concussion. So her boycotting the Oscars for that was stupid.

I get it.

But it's all subjective

We really want to go on about how many black actors were robbed of wins and nominations?

And wasn't this right before Oscar's so white?

She has the right to do that and she wasn't even wrong its her husband, she is an actress herself, part of the industry.

But I do get that Chris didn't have to go so extra on her during his monologue...

(Notice Sofia V. Clapping EXTRA hard, wonder if he made a joke about her having all tits no talent if she would laugh the same. Cause joking on YOURSRLF and having a pro do it don't feel the same)

Especially if they were "friends"

Comedy or not everyone has feelings.

Doesn't excuse what Will did AT ALL.

but I get it.

Cause I remember when Chris killed Jude Law. Supposedly that crushed him to the point that powerful folk actually stepped to Chris to chill.

I think Jude even changed management and took a break.

This is all a sh*t show. Chris got some good payback. Wish they could all peace up but I doubt it.

Funny as soon as one of them drop dead watch all the tears hugs and forgiveness come when it's too late.

Or did have to give Chris a bonus?

Especially as their FIRST live?

Chris wasn't talking about all the black actors. He specifically said Will Smith for Concussion. Of course Jada should root for her husband. But to not go to a show because her undeserving husband wasn't nominated is crazy.
Maybe she was boycotting on behalf of all black actors. That's fine and she has a point. But Chris Rock was joking on her about Conclusion. Maybe it was scripted, and Chris Rock was used to take the focus away from "Oscars So White" and turn it into Will Smith. If that's the case then that is a justifiable reason for Jada and Will to be pissed off. I'd be pissed of at Rock too.

I am trying to remember the "Black" movies that came out around that time that would have been Oscar worthy and I can only remember Concussion and THAT was not worthy, but Rock didn't go into it being a garbage movie or that Will Smith and Halle Berry had the same African dialect coach and that person should be shot. I mean if he were REALLY a dyck he could have went in on that film.

As a comedian I can tell you when Chris and Dave started comedy there wasn't any outlets for "black" comedy then. Keenen Ivory Wayans started doing white comedy clubs. Any good comedian will have jokes for wjite crowds and black crowds. Black folks didn't like Dave until he had the Chappelle show. IT'S NOT AN INSULT THAT THEY BOTH DO WHITE CROWDS! Black folks are only 13% of the country so why wouldn't you do white comedy? You get $3,00 a weekend at a white comedy club and you get less than half of that at black rooms If you are lucky. Hell, you're lucky if you get paid at all with all the scams that bookers do to try not to pay you. Chris does masterful job of doing white and black crowds at the same time. it has been my experience that you can only do certain jokes in black rooms. sex, roaches, bad credit, white folks do this & black folks do that type of comedy. If you can find old Comic View shows when they did topic shows. They would edit every joke a comedian did on a subject. Look at all the comedians from Def Comedy Jam, how many of them are doing as well as Chris and Dave are doing? Chris got $40mil from nextflix and Dave got $60mil from them.

Working with Eddie Murphy does not mean Chris's initial audience was black. Their is a difference in attempting to appeas whites vs gaining a diverse audience. No one has an issue with the latter. Eddie Murphy has been accused of offensive jokes due to the current climate, but to your own point I don't recall anyone accusing him of trying to appease Whites like Chris. You are not your mentor. Bill Cosby didn't fuck with Eddie Murphy or Richard Pryors brand of comedy. Paving a way does not mean matching steps.

Dave Chappelle didn't use a Trans person who was severely beaten as the butt of a joke. When he did name an actual Trans person, it was done so respectfully. There is a difference between a generic reference vs using a person. Hence my comparison to the Wayne line using Emmett Till that most people claimed to be offended by. Now its somehow different because Chris was a victim?now if you weren't offended by the Wayne line then it's clear why you wouldn't be offended.

More importantly some members of their community were offended by Dave's jokes. You can't tell people what they should or should not be offended by. You also can't control how people react to something you say or do. It doesn't matter who the community is if they are offended by the action that is their right just like our community.

When Joe Rogen made the comment comparing black people to planet of the apes and claimed it was a joke, didn't black people take offense to it? Not only that some people questioned black celebrities and friends who went on the podcast.

Yes, my statements imply that he wrote jokes for Will and is clearly still hurt about the event. His body language and him confusing the two movies is evidence of that.

What theory am I coming up with?
Chris didn't leave it at my parents raised me to behave in public. He didn't even say my parents raised me to behave in front of black people. His statement was around knowing how to behave in front of white people. His own words reinforced the thoughts that some people have about him wanting to appease Whites. An opinion that existed before Will Smith smacked him.

A rape victim is not comparable to Chris. You know what was? The situation with Manio and the youtuber. The prevailing attitude was youtubers need to stop fucking with people and Manio did him a favor. Few people said, the guy was just joking and Manio was doing too much. At best the attitude was he should have known better and of course the it was a skit line. Now it could be a skit, but it's been said the guy didn't post the video. Point is there was a clear size difference, it's all over the net and the guy was joking. Did you have a bleeding heart for him or was he not famous enough for you.

Having certain jokes for a certain crowds is not the same as attempting to appease another group. When I hear Chris say his parents said not to fight in front of whites, that comes off like pandering for approval or attempting to appease. I didn't put the whipping joke in that category. I believe its disrespectful in general to joke about that event regardless of the audience.

no paving a way doesnt necessarily mean matching steps but it does mean influence and in the case of the 80s the avenues to fame and work were the same for each.

What exactly in his professional work produced would you say that rock was "appeasing" whites? Chris makes fun of everyone black or white just because whites laff loud about it doesn't mean its appeasing. Ya'll use that word too much.

Dave Chappelle didn't use a Trans person who was severely beaten as the butt of a joke. When he did name an actual Trans person, it was done so respectfully. youre gonna have top post clips of these people...the emmitt till thing and the manio thing cuz I have know I have idea who these people are.

but in any case will smith and jada are well known celebrities and as such subject to ribbing and roasting as is the tradition of award show hosts. Will betrayed his own position by LAFFING at the worlds lamest joke in the first place. And trying to connect chris saying a joke about will and jada in one oscar show then making another joke YEARS LATER at another oscar show as if Chris has been hounding and harassing these people constantly is a huge ridiculous jump. Dude all youve been doing is tryning to connect dots that Will and Jada themselves can't or refuse to explain. IF one of then would just come out and say "yeah that motherfucker has been raggin on me for years and I'm fed up with it" THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING. But all you have is theory and conjecture to support your offence to a stand up act.

Chris if nothing else has kept it in the realm of stand up comedy. He didnt go on podcasts or news shows like the View to discuss his real feelings.

If you wanna be offended that's your right and boy does this generation exercise that right about EVERYTHING but to act like chris crossed a line compared to THE ASSUALT that happened to him is mind blowing.

I don't want to intrude in your debate but I wanted to say something if that is cool.

I have struggled with THIS specific part of this fiasco since day one

but now based on what Chris HIMSELF said in the special?

Jada DID (allegedly) complain or ask him him NOT to host the Oscars

and his response?

Was that bit were he KILLED her about the boycott.

If what CHRIS himself is saying is true?

it DOES add a very interesting layer to all this.

no but it does mean influence.
What exactly in his professional work produced would you say that rock was "appeasing" whites? Chris makes fun of everyone black or white just because whites laff loud about it doesn't mean its appeasing. Ya'll use that word too much.

youre gonna have top post clips of these people...the emmitt till thing and the manio thing cuz I have know I have idea who these people are.

but in any case will smith and jada are well known celebrities and as such subject to ribbing and roasting as is the tradition of award show hosts. Are you saying you don't know who Emmett Till is or you don't know the Lil Wayne verse/song? In the AK video, start from around the 8:30 mark.

Public figures are human like everyone else. You're right a person can say whatever they want but that doesn't mean the person can't react just because they are famous and should be use to it. A few comedians said they mad jokes about Mike Tyson and he didn't find it funny. They didn't mention getting hit, but we saw what happened to the guy on the airplane so we can assume they got lucky. Would Chris joke about Tyson's wife in his face.

You are basically saying the world has gone soft to the point jokes can't be told. Name a time in history where it was ok to joke about a man's family or wife? If the man took offense to the joke, he would check the man who said it.

I thought she did that publicly, but I could be wrong.

I agree on his overall mindset for that though. I think they were trying to say Chris shouldn't do it on some black unity thing. If Chris felt it was more about Will and didn't want to turn down the check/opportunity, that was his decision to make and I see how it would be wrong for Jada to ask that of him.

That being said, I can see how him joking about her and doing the show they are saying isn't respecting black talent looks away. Especially if they had talks behind the scenes one on one.
