I agree, but you can't laugh at the joke first, and then go running up on the person. That's why, to me, that was some sucker shit he did.
These three have a long history together that goes back to the 1980s.
There must have been more drama between all 3 of them before the joke.

Man ya'll niggas are some of the greatest dermatologist in history. Quick, how many types of alopecia are there?
Did Chris Rock wait to talk about his wife behind closed doors? It hit different..when you slap a muffucka Infront of THEY people...I will slap a muffucka at a wedding...I slapped one dude at the State Fair. And knocked slushie out his mouf...in front of his whole fuckin family... brah

Well...I got a big head...and people have jokes and done me the same way... sometimes it take time to click... and when it does...I click my muffuckin knuckles somewhere on they cranium...brah
My understanding is that this was the first Grammy put together exclusively by black folk. And nobody will remember Will won best actor all they will remember is he smacked a mofokr that weigh 110 soaking wet but didn't tell August to keep his wife out his mouth....or to stay out of his wife mouth
I wonder how Will would have felt if Chris fell and never got up. It would have been said that misplaced emotion got the best of Will.
Things a white person would say for 100…
Protect your wife by not letting other niggas fuck her.
And by not letting other nighaz talk shit about her...in your presence...jackk
LOL
they got the memo, that if chris rock was chris prat or
other cac chris...
he wouldve left in handcuffs....
of course thats if this whole thing
wasnt staged..
yep.. nothing wrong with saying she could play the part.. she has a balled head.. hell it ain't even that balled it's just shaved.. women every where willing wear that style..What did Chris say that was fukkd up ?
He said she looked like GI Jane..Well Demi looked good in that movie so it ain't like he said she looked like Gabbey.
He said he didn't know she has the baldy disease so again what did he say that was fucked up ?
Don't say no shit like we heading out or we need a head count. So you get heated cause you got a big head....
What they say ? They call you blow pop ?
They make fun that you can't wear a pull over ?
Hmmm
He could sue him...Why all these lawsuit thirsty mofokrs ain't saying that ?
No, he didn't. He laughed at the joke. Will felt some kind of way and he dealt with it immediately.
That's the thing
We all love Chris.
A few years ago Rick Ross threatened Chris after a joke and the world clowned him.
That's different to me.
He supposed to a gangsta, we know he lied about his past, he had beef with 50, and the joke was directed at him personally.
Will is wrong period.
But I can understand what happened. Chris was an habitual line stepper. And he dealt with it right then and there.
@4 Dimensional point about silly humans.
If Will slaps him privately and no one sees but it leaks out?
Well why didn't Will do it publicly Chris dissed him publicly?
Will slaps him on stage.
It's an embarrassment to the academy and blacks everywhere.
But when white folk do sucker sh*t it's just actors being actors.
Black men don't defend black women...
So now Will is a hero
But Will can't take a joke.
Chris is disrespectful to black women and medical conditions and physical deformities
Chris is a comedian yall trying to cancel him.
There is no rhyme or reason with passion emotional response.
Will was wrong Chris was wrong too.
Will shouldn't have slapped him on stage
Chris shouldn't have went at his wife like that AGAIN.
There is no real RIGHT way to handle this
Here’s my thing and I’m sure we have differing opinions on this but I’m no fan of PC society. I hate it with everything in my being, personally. I feel like comedy is that last and final bastion where one can truly be whatever tf they want and say shit the way they see it and with as much truth or angst as they want.Well said, man.
A joker can joke and we can call it just a joke all we want to, but that night the joker got slapped for line stepping.
I told my daughter this one time where she said some shit and then tried to play it off as a joke. I told her one day the one you’re joking on isn’t going to be joking.
A joke doesn’t absolve a person from catching hands no matter who they are or what their profession is. That’s part of the reason I’m glad Will slapped him. Just so people to see that whatever code of conduct that you thought existed doesn’t really exist. It doesn’t have to be understood by everybody either.
Both of them crossed a line. And I’m glad it happened in front of the WORLD.
@keftaforgot the name of the og poster here on BGOL who used to say this all the time and rightfully so :
context of racism / white supremacy
true,
but either way in the long run will smith wins, his children
respect him more, sisters who already loved him,
loved him even more now...
Jada his wife you KNOW was feeling that shit!!!!
and is LOVING all the content she is going to have for her show,
in addition to new improved ratings...
that slap was an investment thats going to pay off nice for will
whether he gets sued or not...
the fucked up shit is like a tweet stated...
If it was brad cooper or brad pitt that slapped a dude,
in his wifes honor..
the whole cac world would be uplifting them talkin about what
a brave man he was to take up for his woman like that...
Its the hypocrisy that never fuckin fails bruh
It's understandable if you go to a comedy club/show or a roast but this was not that. I didn't think the joke was that serious but pushing the comedic line outside of those places is different. Here’s my thing and I’m sure we have differing opinions on this but I’m no fan of PC society. I hate it with everything in my being, personally. I feel like comedy is that last and final bastion where one can truly be whatever tf they want and say shit the way they see it and with as much truth or angst as they want.
I personally love when comedians flirt with that line. I own a shirt that says “Habitual line stepper…” cause that’s just how I am. That’s the game they signed up for and one I fully respect because it’s refreshing to me.
Now I’m not saying you’re free from repercussion at all.. no. That’s also part of the game. You run that risk of pissing off people at their expense and I completely understand that, but what I fear is that we’re gonna get to a place where comedy HAS to be censored and to a certain point, which it already is, is gonna get worse. How much more can they go if we allow it?
Today it’s Will defending baldies. Tomorrow it’s gonna be someone defending ugly or fat or goofy looking people or whatever. In the “era of inclusion” as I like to call it, it feels like a slippery slope to attack a comedian for telling a joke. One that, let’s be honest, wasn’t that bad to being with especially which I think he ain’t know nothing about. Seems like most didn’t, but I digress.
Agajn, I do get Jada felt some kinda way and Will peeped it and handled it, and I truly don’t think much is gonna come outta this, but I don’t like that the art of comedy was at its core here.
Imagine Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphy not being able to say the things they’ve said in Live and Smokin or Raw and Delirious.. the legendary shit we would’ve missed out on.
