Man this revisionist history kills me. Let y'all tell it Biggie and Nas were some of the biggest artist ever when they came out and Dave Chappelle was the greatest black comedian ever in the 90's and early 2000's. What Faizon is saying is correct, he just exaggerated some shit because he don't like Dave. How do I know this because I was there. I worked in the entertainment industry. What Faizon is talking about when he says Dave was not funny to niggas is the black comedy audience. The Comedy shit used to be set up like the rap industry. Shit was sectioned off. The Major cities were New York, LA, Atlanta, Chicago and DC. Most comedians went to one of those cities to try to make it. There were white clubs and black clubs. Most of the black comedians were relegated to performing at black comedy clubs which had black audiences. Earthquake who was (At the time) way funnier than Dave, had one of the biggest black comedy clubs in the US (Uptown Comedy Club on Peachtree). All of the top black comedians lived at Uptown. We (people in the entertainment industry) used to go to Uptown every Friday night. I have seen every funny black comedian of that time 3 or 4 times. Some of them were, Martin Lawrence, Joe Torre, Ricky Harris, George Wallace, Bernie Mack, Cedric, DL, Earthquake, Corey Holcomb, Mike Epps, DC Curry, Steve Harvey, Ricky Smiley, Tony Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Griffin, Chris Tucker, Bruce Bruce, Daman Wayans, Arnez J....... I think I seen Dave once there and he was ok. All the other comedians listed became famous because of black audiences. Dave and probably Patrice O'Neal were some of the only black comedians on the white circuit, and were made by white audiences. Dave was on star search and performing in Montreal and other shit where there were all white audiences. Dude is speaking from his perspective coming up in black clubs where Dave was not.

Faizon is tripping on this one saying he wasn't that great. He was. That's why he kept getting pilots to do sitcoms even after all of them kept falling thru. That's why he got his specials. That's why he got his 1st special before he had the Chapelle Show. That's why he was in those movies with bit parts until he carved out his lane. That's why Chapelle show broke records the 1st season, before the charlie murphy sketch even existed. I and a ton of other people were excited that Dave got his own show. We had been waiting forever to see this man be funny on TV. He talking about he getting money because they like him... yes they like him because it is a popularity contest. Also that contest judges whether you're a legend or not. Comics praise Dave and the people do. Just Not Faizon which is FINE just don't pass it off as fact when it's just opinion

I’ve liked Dave since Killing Me Softly. I’m not a big fan of sketch comedy, so his show wasn’t really for me. It was funny. I’ve watched all of specials since and they’re good to me. I don’t understand why people are expecting everything single special is supposed to be a classic, that’s impossible. To me, 2/4 of the last Netflix specials he did are classic materials. I was at the last Netflix special he taped, the D.C one, the house was backed with 90% black people and he killed it. To me, Dave is special along with Chris Rock. They can talked about stupid hood shit and intelligent shit and make it funny. They can talk about any subject and not too people can do that.

Daves biggest flaw in the eyes of the chitlin circuit black comedian hater coalition is he didnt have to play shit clubs and slum for 15-20 years... Dave started stand up in his teens and was doing film shortly thereafter. Meanwhile, the Faizons and Epps started in the their 20s and with the exception of bit parts here and there were relegated to that same circuit as their bread and butter for most of their careers. Daves talents and scope allowed him to bypass alot of the shit... They are literally mad at the guy for being better than them. Moved to LA to pursue comedy, got a white high powered agent because the dude went to college with him, the agent linked him with Lorne Michaels, and he was on Saturday Night live within a year, and he had not put in any work. He is not a great comedian, but has made a career out of it simply because he is plugged with the right agency and has worked on his craft. Dave was no more talented back then than the Jamie Foxx's, Earthquake's, Martin Lawrence's........... He just got plugged with them white folks at an early age.
