Sleep Apnea Will Ruin Your Life!/ FDA has approved weight-loss drug Zepbound to treat obstructive sleep apnea

Yeah my doc told me some shit like that. If I don't use it enough within the first 90 days I get it, they prolly won't pay for it.
Awww shit he's right? You mean to tell me you got the machine and didn't use it? :fuckyousay: Damn man, they can take it back. :smh:

The soccer one was intense. Went in to challenge a defender clearing their zone and they toe-punted it. The ball caught me under the nose and drove it upward. It was one of those late-year games ... playing on a gravel field. Falling on gravel added insult to injury.

:roflmao3:
Man that shit sounds painful as fuck. :smh:

Yeah ... surprising all those years of basketball and soccer ... never had any major knee/leg injuries. Same for track & field (100m, 200m, 4x100m). No issues. A toe-punted soccer ball in the grill though? Yeah! As for the basketball elbow. I would have knocked the person out (Barkley-Rodman elbow clearing the rebound) but they were my friend. Funny additional story (same outdoor court). Was playing 1-on-1 with another friend ... they were crossing over at the free-throw line or so and I stayed with them and reached in for a steal. We collided heads & have the exact same scar above the right eye (below eyebrow). All we could do was laugh. Looked like a crime scene and we needed water & towels ASAP!

Yes that's true. My thing is, why not use it if you have it and need it.

In my case over 90 days I used it 79 times. Was asked why I didn’t use it everyday. I explained to them that I fell asleep watching tv those other days. U know those times when you’re watching something and don’t realize that you fell asleep. Well they determined it was a couple days short of the recommended usage

Yeah it definitely happens. Gotta turn that tv off, get in bed and use it man. You know insurance companies are looking for any justification not to help people who need it. Greedy bastards.

Went against the Doctor’s orders and treated my Apnea naturally with Cannabis. He was very angry and confused but he couldn’t ignore the numbers.

Over a 6 week period, my AHI levels reduced to levels that the CPAP machine they recommended would have done.

“In the placebo-controlled study, 73 patients were randomized to receive 2.5 mg of dronabinol or 10 mg of dronabinol daily for up to 6 weeks, or placebo. At the end of treatment, researchers saw significant increases in the AHI among the patients on placebo, while those who received dronabinol showed decreases in the number of apnea and hypopnea events per hour. Patients given the 2.5-mg dose of dronabinol had a mean decrease of 10.7 events per hour, and those on the 10-mg dose had a mean decrease of 12.9 events per hour compared with placebo. The difference between the placebo and treatment arms was significant for both dosages, and the AHI decreases were similar between the two dosages of dronabinol.

These effects were largely due to reductions in apnea events; the largest reduction was seen in the REM apnea index in patients treated with the 10-mg dose of dronabinol. However, there were few effects on the expression of hypopneas, except in the higher-dose group.”

In short, cannabis helped me beat it. Try it if you can.

If y'all fat muthafuckas lost weight, you wouldn't have to worry about this shit. And to think, some of y'all be in other threads having da nerve to talk about big heauxs. :dunno:

Yes...diagnosed about 6-7 years ago. Really struggled the first year and some change with wearing my mask but it eventually became second nature for the most part.

I purchased the Cleaning System about a couple years ago, it was expensive but worth it to get out of cleaning my mask and tubes regularly. The smell does not bother me because I have my timer set for early mornings so by the time I lay it down for the night, my mask just has that fresh out the plastic smell.

I obviously feel better with the machine but I still don't have a consistent sleep schedule and still sleep on average only 5 hours a night. I believe as I get older that I need to have my pressure increased because I still have episodes where if I am sitting idle for too long I get incredibly drowsy and nod off.

The mouth guards are a good alternative to a CPAP machine, although the downside is you might have to pay for it out of pocket depending on your insurance. Your dental insurance might view it as a health issue while your health insurance might view it as a dental issue.

Not everyone can use a mouthpiece. If your sleep apnea is severe, you'll only be able to use CPAP.

I have sleep apnea. I hated CPAP. It was recommended to me by a surgeon that I should have the surgery (uvulopyloplasty). I had redundant tissue in my throat, and my turbinates in my nose were too large. I had these cut as well (turbinectomy).

Bottom line: Do not get the surgery! For four weeks, my throat was on fire! Every time I swallowed, it hurt so bad, it felt like an electric shock going through me. What made it worse was that the surgeon (who was Black, as I wanted a Black surgeon) basically thought I was faking it. He was a real asshole. Because I didn't heal right, I had to get a second opinion, and that surgeon said that the surgery could have been done differently, and I would have had less pain! I didn't even want to eat, it hurt so bad. I lost 15 pounds. Although my sleep apnea was decreased enough for me to not have to use CPAP - I only had to use a mouthpiece - in retrospect, it wasn't worth it. I also had to have speech therapy, because my voice would fade in and out.

Don't do what I did. Just use a CPAP machine if you have to and keep it moving. If you're fortunate enough to have a diagnosis of mild sleep apnea, use the mouthpiece if your doctor says that's what you need. Keep your weight down.

Also bottom line - Use your CPAP or mouthpiece EVERY night.

Sorry to hear about how the surgery went.

You're right, for non-minor sleep apnea, the mouthpiece isn't enough. As long as I use mine I'm good, but if I mess up and fall asleep without it, I can't workout the next day because I'll get out of breath too fast.

For me it's what I eat and my sleep position.
If I sleep on my back I usually have a sleep apnea episode so I sleep on my side.
Any foods containing high amounts of Monosodiumglutamate that are often found in flavored snacks, chips, popcorn or Chinese food will void me of a good night's sleep.
Also foods with high levels of the preservative Sodium nitrate that are used for processed meats, bacon, pork chops... etc.
These salts are like kryptonite to me and could trigger sleep apnea episodes.

So I sparingly eat foods containing these types of salts.

Damn man, I never saw this thread. That
is some serious shit. I never had it but
my ex and my daughter said I used to
snore loudly every night but after just
a few days of eating raw vegan, the
snoring stopped completely and never
resurfaced. This was 11 years ago!
