The show is good, hopefully it gets back to the roots of Power -- gratuitous nudes, violence, and gangster shit, because the Tariq spinoff is more PG-13 rated. The best part about this series is that it presents the best opportunity to build on the world that was setup in the original Power and provide viewers with answers to a lot of backstory between characters. The gamble is that it is set so far back that they need to get through at least 3-4 seasons before the teenage Kanan story meets teenage Ghost & Tommy. Remember in the series finale of Power, that flashback scene was set in '96, 5 years after Kanan begins in '91. 50 Cent has a lot of clout at Starz right now, but that can always change, it's a big risk to plan a network TV series out that far ahead. If the network switches management and decides to go a different route, like Cinemax, the viewers are gonna be left ass out.

The toning down of gratuitous nudity had more to do with #metoo than anything else.

Most believable character so far was Unique. I KNEW that nigga growing up!!! Lol!! The vocal tone and delivery is familiar to me growing up in the projects. That's Joey Badass ain't it??

not true. and like Ballscout said, they just wasn't famous. I knew/know a couple of ladies from back in the 80 and early 90s who were the biggest drug dealers in a certain area. I grew up with them and their families and still communicate with them.

I watched it and found myself fact checking if the cars and clothes were period correct. I don’t like the fact that these niccas are putting some homo storyline in everything on TV. The kother running shit is not believable, I’m from Queens and back in those days it was all about the Tony Montana’s, Fat Cats, The Supreme Team and the Colombians in Jackson Heights. Women were in the game but he over sensationalizing his mother.

I don't think that's suppose to be Fif's mother. She's a fictional take...maybe she's based on someone but I've seen stories of females running shit just like she is. Usually it be her cousins or brothers around her or her dude but its happened. I can't speak on Queens though. I don't recall no one from Queens specifically playing that role myself.

Yeah that's a dope character I hope he lasts longer than a few episodes.

I really think this show has a bunch of good characters on it. I hope they encourage all because to me personally Kanan's story character and story aren't that good to just be having the show centered around him.

That is a good point though. Between Tasha and Mary J character and this character it does seem redundant.....and the back drop of being in the 80's isn't enough to not make this not feel stale or that we're recycling characters.

It's Power so I know the inevitable decline is coming...that being said I liked the episode...its a story we have seen in some form before (many times) but it was entertaining....nobody needs 50 narration but we already know how that goes so no surprise there

I'm more shocked some higher ups don't stop Fif from always putting himself in shit.....he's not needed to narrate.

They still think his name means something (and it probably does) and he insists on it so they go along with it....its smart business on his part even if it doesn't make the product any better
He probably paid attention to Puffy: Never let the brand, group or show be bigger than you. Always attach yourself.

Im not doubting it I just don’t remember nothing about him on the show. Didn’t see him mentioned….

I don't remember hearing his name mentioned in the show but like I said I fell asleep and watched it in 2 halves, (that Orange Diesel version 3.0 will do that to you), so I had to go back and look at the credits and yes it is there as you can see from the screenshot. I am about to re-watch it to see if there is anything else that I missed.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Let me know what you find. Probably some Spanish kid in the background at school most likely.

Basically both female drug kingpins got to the point from being partnered with there man, there man was mostly well respected and feared. they were basically given the green light from there man from behind bars or proxied to take over in the event If something happens. Sometime It happens that way In real life as well. Also In the 80's early nineties there was no real clear drug lord(at least In New York) All the 5 boroughs were broken up like a pie chart. there were multiple kingpins back then. This chick was big In Harlem.

Dude.......the first female ( Mary J) was doing day-to-day for her locked up kingpin husband and there were many females who did just that. The power wasn't theirs but his.

And Kananns mother was splitting 7 blocks. So she was holding down 3 locks cause she had to split.....There have been many women who controlled small sections and their power was in the shooters they employed. In this case her brothers......And she also got that because of her husband who was killed..

So once again this ain't that far-fetched and damn sure ain't uncommon especially back in the day when most drug cases were handled by the state.

How many mobsters and gang leaders kept power while locked up....?
