Anybody using Plex for their music collections?

Most people say it's useless when you have Spotify and Youtube. Others have stated that it's just not that good.

I just loaded my collection into it and I find it serviceable, I'll also be a good way to keep my music collection up to date.

I like PLEX for my music as I can make playlists for family that shares my server. I hate those streaming services as it takes forever for a song that I like.

Setup a server this weekend for the same reasons. Ran iTunes for a long time but hate how it forces me to integrate with Apple Music. Anyone running a Synolgy DS NAS? Looking @ a DS9 series....

For all you music on Plex guys, how do you like PlexAmp?

Navigation is a little wonky, like if I am in the middle of playing a song I would like the ability to go back to my library, I have yet to find that feature. I only use PlexAmp remotely. For now I have been using Google Play Music, but they changed to YouTube Music and THAT interface is garbage nd a lot of the free features in Play are for pay in YouTube

I LOVE the organization of Apple Music. I basically use it just to organize my library.

I went with the WD PR4100 NAS. The transcoding is what sold me. Smaller community, so you miss out on the third party stuff.

For my application it is. It's stable. I am running it on my server 2016. It works flawlessly for movies, TV shows, music, pictures, and live TV.

So comparing the client interfaces Emby looks as good as Plex? I have tried Emby on Android, Amazon and Roku and it always has looked second rate, especially on Android devices. But like I said I am a fan since I use it.

Have you used Jellyfish?

There's a bunch of stuff in my music library that isn’t on streaming services. As of right now Plex with PlexAmp is the easiest way for me to stream it. I already got burned by Google and Apple by having them replace my songs with clean versions or with different songs completely

I never had any problems with Plex but all my movies are small 720p 800mb yify type files

the only time I have problems is with huge 4k files like over 40gb
for that I use another app called “infuse“ on Apple TV , it connects to my Plex server

currently have 5,674 movies

2 movie folders 3.77TB and another with 700gb

Ok, it took a few hours but I got my music on Plex.

210 Artists from 112 to Vesta Williams.

Only had to make a few adjustments here and there.

I sort of wish there was a way to separate live and compilation albums

I have 82 albums for Aretha Franklin, while Aretha put out a lot of music from 1956 till her death, she didn't release 82 albums.

Many of those albums are compilation albums and some of which are poorly assembled rush jobs for international, non-English markets.

I think that's impossible, as they don't keep information they only connect to services that have that information, but that would be nice.

Playa, you gonna have to do the work to get the right. I use Picard and MP3tag with Taghycardia. You can get your collection straight with them. It will take a little time but worth it. Here is what mines looks like and I got all the correct cover art and album info.

im currently trying out Plexamp
if you already have a big music digital library from years before this app lets you stream it to your phone, tablet or computer
you just add your music folder to your plex library and let it scan , then download the Plexamp app

I don't know if plex pass is needed

but the app plexamp works just like plex movies
if you wanna cancel your streaming music service ,this is an option
my music folder is 93GB , this is from like 10 years ago so I don't have any current shit on it

I also pay for pandora plus $5 a month

I have been using PlexAmp for a couple of years it is alright, my only problem is having to add my ratings to music that I have already set outside of PlexAmp.

2023 still using Plex , I’m upgrading my storage setup
I was using a 10tb external drive and is getting almost full
Upgrading to 18tb internal drive and a dual bay dock
And yes I have 2 18tb drives , one for backup

I really don't see a point in using another application! I use Emby for my porn on a different NAS just to keep everything separate. You also have Jellyfin, but neither has the community/support that PLEX has

Used to use Plex too, but switched to Jellyfin last summer. It has Android and IOS apps like Plex, but no subscription fee or FAST content. Also has a FinAmp app for just the music but I can't speak on it as I haven't used it.

The pr0n on the other hand is running on an app called Stash (https://stashapp.cc/). Decent interface but the come up is the site scrapping, content tagging, database management and organization.
