I'm probably just paranoid, but I have a teenage son in the house and I know I was seeking out XXX when I was his age. LOL
I only have Emby installed on my Fire TV in the bedroom, but the NAS still shows up on his smart TV and I was able to access my XXX stash without much effort.
I'm encrypting the folder right now as I type this. Can I still use Emby to access an encrypted folder?

I don't think so, but if the NAS is showing up that might be due to DNLA and if you turn that off that might stop the TV from seeing it.

Any idea how to turn off DNLA for that folder or only allow access for one device in the house?

What kind of TV does your son have? How are you "finding" the network shares on your NAS from the TV, like is it an app, are you browsing to the shares within Emby?

It's a budget LG smart TV I bought years ago. It runs on WebOs.
It's not an app, it shows up under sources on the main screen. No Emby.
I just checked it now and it doesn't show up anymore I'm guessing since I decrypted the XXX folder.
I'll have to test whether Emby still works tomorrow though.

I still think DNLA being disabled will fix your issue. DNLA might be a service on the TV you could disable. I am not familiar with where it is on LG TV's or on Synology NAS.

Is there a smaller 4k encode than galaxyRG and yify?

THE Next thing I wanna do with Plex is this

I wanna have a collection for the top 250 movies of all time from IMDb
And stuff like this

How do I get this Stash app running for my XXX stuff on my Synology NAS?
I downloaded the Windows version of the app onto my PC, told the app where the XXX is located, but no content shows up.
Do I need to download the Linux version onto the Synology?
You can run Stash on the Synology itself if it supports Docker. But once you tell it where the XXX is, you then import it into your database.

just an update on my Drives/files issue
it wasn't drive formatting or anything like that
It was the individual apps permissions that were causing movie folders to display 'empty'.
i went into the settings for both Kodi & NOVA player and changed the permissions settings for accessing media.
I was also able to stream movies from my office pc but didn't care for the dropoff in picture quality (not to mention anything 4k was a no-go due to lag)
currently i have a 5TB external with movies and a 2tb external with shows connected to the NVidia Shield.
Next move is to get that 18Tb external i saw at best buy for $250 and dump movies and shows on there.
might cop a second one as a backup, but for now my current drives can serve that purpose.

I am also researching the NAS options but not ready to make that move yet.

Anybody using a seedbox ?
OR VPN ?
Probably should, but I don't. I've been lucky/blessed using transmission's blocklist (https://github.com/Naunter/BT_BlockLists/raw/master/bt_blocklists.gz) when I do torrent. But I have TOR running on the transmission instance. I use radarr and sonarr to automagically acquire my media but not to the volume that would make a seedbox worth it.

Gotta mention though that I do use zerotier ( https://www.zerotier.com/ ) as a method to access all of my servers/devices, through firewalls with no need to open ports. Had to get around the content filter at the job so I tunnel all my DNS requests to my pi-hole server through zerotier. Now it's BGOL at work all day...

Probably. But since I'm using Sonarr and Radarr it's not like I'm actively searching the torrents and downloading them so I don't notice. Usually what'll happen is an episode or a movie I'm monitoring will drop, the apps see it and grab it and usually it's overnight when that happens. I don't even notice that I have new content until I'm seeing it in Jellyfin.

Only series that took multiple days was when I went looking for Zane's The Jumpoff. Eventually got it but the quality was beyond awful.

I’m using the same blocklist and transmission program on Mac

I went a little overboard this month and downloaded like 100 4K movies
Got a copyright strike email from Comcast for Just one , godfather 2

Seedbox, SFTP transfer to my NAS haven't had a strike in over 10 years

How is the nvidia shield as a plex server

Have you guys check out jellyfin? It is a Plex alternative that just works and does not call home with all your usage data.

What are the advantages to using this over Plex
Can you share your library with others using jellyfin ?

It's lightweight, you don't have to log into anyone's servers to use it. Has a bunch of plugins, and very customizable. You caan share your library with anyone but you have to work out how they connect to your server yourself, it's not like plex that is managing (or snooping) your traffic from all your accounts.

All of that. I too switched from Plex to Jellyfin. And while it may not have a Roku/TV app it does have a mobile app and GoogleCast works well. The interface isn't clogged up with FAST content I ain't goin watch and ain't sign up for. AND access to the mobile apps are free.

My setup - a Pi4 8GB with a 64GB sdcard running dietpi with my data on a 7TB external drive. Every service runs via Docker. Here's 1 of the vids I used for reference:

Some of the Synology's support docker, but you could run it on just about any old pc and be good.
