Used to use Plex too, but switched to Jellyfin last summer. It has Android and IOS apps like Plex, but no subscription fee or FAST content. Also has a FinAmp app for just the music but I can't speak on it as I haven't used it.

The pr0n on the other hand is running on an app called Stash (https://stashapp.cc/). Decent interface but the come up is the site scrapping, content tagging, database management and organization.

But you don't have a lot of NAS's that support JellyFin though.

I use this same enclosure for my Pr0n, 2 10tb drives with 1 as a hot swap. My other NAS I have 4 4tb drives with 1 of those 4 as a hot swappable drive so 12tb and when I tell you that you're gonna regret downloading those 3-5gb files when there are 1-2gb file available.

I pretty much only download Ultra HD 4K movies now, maybe 1080p. Some movies are well over 70GB.
I go for quality over quantity when it comes to getting movies.
I got a Synology NAS with 6 drives (1 15TB, 2 14TB, 1 6TB and 2 4TB drives).
I use Plex to stream all the movies. I used to use Kodi, but it would mess up too much on the really big files.
I use Emby to stream the XXX stuff, but the only problem is that it shows up on the home network and I want to hide it from the fam. LOL

i prioritize quality as well.
i'm interested in having a setup similar to yours.
Need to learn how to setup Plex when it comes to naming all my files & seeing them on my TV (from my router or home computer)
for the XXX stuff, you could enable encryption on the folders, so only you can get to them. Or make it so they don't show up altogether.
Regarding the larger drives (anything over 4TB) do you ever have issues with the movies not showing up when at your tv (about to play a movie)?
I'm running nova player through the Nvidia shield. it sees the drives, but says the folders are empty (it lists movies on drives under 4TB just fine)

RAID yes, max out at 80tb (got the 16tb x 5 drives through my job), put all my old drives away as backup. This is my second multi bay drive beforehand I had 5 externals.
good shit.
i'm at the multiple externals stage
i need to do what you & the other posters are doing with the NAS setups

No issues with movies showing up. I too use an Nvidia Shield to play the movies.
Plex does all the work for you in terms of naming the movies, you just have to make sure the file names are properly worded.
For example, I name my movies like: "[Name of movie].[Year movie was released]"

I used to store all my stuff on my PC and did that for years. I finally wised up and got a NAS last year and it's one of the best moves I've ever made.
I don't need to have my PC on to stream movies and can stream content outside of the house using Plex.

yes that is what i was getting at regarding the names.
that also means a lot of editing for me to do, as i have over 1200 movies and who knows how many shows/documentaries.
My shield sees all my drives, (nova player, Kodi, etc.) displays the movies& posters in any drive under 4TB, but won't show the content of any drive bigger.
you're saying the plex does not have that issue?
If so, i will download that onto the shield and start messing with it.
Plex is already on this computer i'm on right now.

Nope, no issues for me with Plex on the large drives.
I'm wondering if those larger drives are formatted differently NTFS, FAT32, etc. and that's why the content doesn't show up.
Give Plex a shot and see if it works for you. It's free. Nothing to lose.

i have actually never formatted any External drives, i just plug them in and store content on them.
Drives larger than 4TB work just fine with my old WD media player, thing is, that media player stopped getting support years ago, causing some movie file types to be unplayable (H.265)

Yeah its not cheap especially when you add the drives.but it's less of a headache than building your own especially if you are not familiar with linux and setting up raids. I've had one for about 5 years now so i've got my money's worth.

this computer is running Ubuntu, but i'm a casual user at this point
I have book knowledge of RAID (there are lot of different configs.) but never messed with it.
Do you setup the NAS to run off your home router?

My son got me this after I did a complete updated my PC setup. I look at it as a investment. After the upgrade Plex has been running alot smoother.

now that I'm thinking about it and looking at this, i should have gone with a 4/5 bay enclosure instead a 2 bay , so i won't have to upgrade again, unless they come up with 25/30TB drives in the future for cheap

go with a 4/5 bay minimum

i'm gonna have to, for all the content i have. Since in a RAID configuration you end up with half the space to store files.
Purpose being if i drive fails you don't lose your shit.
I'll keep y'all posted on when i purchase one.

It's free, but for the features that we're all talking about just pay the 120 to get the lifetime pass. I did the same thing with my Emby server Premier and I take a Roku on trips that has Emby and Plex installed and I can watch my TV shows or not having to watch porn on a laptop.

I share out my Plex server so when someone asks me for a movie/TV show I go for quantity over quality 720p is highest I'll go. I LOVE a 480p file!! Plus being a collector I need to go through and delete some of the shyt I have. I still have Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show for my kids back when they were toddlers.

What does your family work in IT??? Luckily my family are either too young or not computer literate enough to search the network for my network shares, but you could always assign accounts to very vague network shares.

All of my Roku and GoogleTV devices have Emby (porn media server) installed, but I only have one device in my house that has the account to login.

I was referring to how they cam pre-formatted when you purchased it. Every drive has a format type whether you've actually formatted it yourself.

I'm probably just paranoid, but I have a teenage son in the house and I know I was seeking out XXX when I was his age. LOL
I only have Emby installed on my Fire TV in the bedroom, but the NAS still shows up on his smart TV and I was able to access my XXX stash without much effort.
I'm encrypting the folder right now as I type this. Can I still use Emby to access an encrypted folder?

It has been a minute since I used Plex. I prefer the look and features of Plex over Kodi, but my primary use was in-house only. I switched to Kodi after Plex required a server login. I just ran across this article below that highlights a configuration for a non-authentication setup. I just wanted to share it with you in case someone requires the same setup.
https://www.howtogeek.com/303282/how-to-use-plex-media-server-without-internet-access/

Here is something to check out if you want to run Synology DSM software on your own Hardware. It works great, and I have been running it for years.

Synology has it's own streaming apps, I keep the pron separate from the plex media files and use the synolgy apps for the porn, for eg there is a app called synolgy ds player that you can play any media from your nas on your devices.

gotcha
i'd have to look that up, but i'd think all the drives (mine are all WD except one 3TB Toshiba which i don't even use) would be formatted the same.
