@respiration Gonna work on more melody chords Res. I love the sound of those 7 major chords. Can't wait to get my Super Reverb amp and my pedals. I will continue to chase my dream to become a professional musician, song writer and producer. I can see it. Nothing will stop me.

How the fuck did I miss this thread??? Good shit Jack, glad you picked this up, music is a life changer. I'm gonna have to go back and read through this thread.
I'm working with a Les Paul Custom, PRS SE Custom 24, mainly boss effects pedals, but I switched to the GT pro rack mount...

GOOD STUFF TURN. QUESTION, CAUSE I WAS LOOKING INTO THE PRS GUITARS............DO THEY COME IN MEDIUM JUMBO FRETS LIKE THE GIBSONS? I NEED MEDIUM JUMBO FRETS WITH MY BIG ASS HANDS. THEY FEEL THE BEST FOR ME. I CAN'T DO NARROW TALL FRETS.

The numbers system is ESSENTIAL music theory. It will help you immensely with songwriting. To know some chords is good. To know their function and how they work together is great.

Yup that's how it works. I was 16 when I first started playing the guitar I got as a birthday gift at 12. My goal and purpose was to write songs. Learning chords sparked ideas.

When my mom gave me a new guitar for my 18th birthday, I gave my old one away to a little kid in my building who wanted to learn guitar.

Sometimes now, I wish I'd kept it lol.

Exactly. I know learning that number system is gonna open up a phenomenal portal for me to create music with. Especially with arpeggios and solos playing lead. I started to incorporate some of that into my last practice session. I was able to just rhythmically make some stuff up going back and forth between Bmaj7 and Dmaj7. I've never done that before. That's when you know I'm getting better and I'm feeling it.

Yup, that's exactly what they are medium-jumbo frets. I have big hands myself, so I had to go into a shop to test out guitars to see what fit best. For me, it's been Les Paul's, SGs, and PRS...I've had Ibanez, Fender strats (hate the flat face) and ESPs...

@respiration Hey Res, give me some more ideas for my studio. What other things am I gonna need for mixing and composing songs. What's the best equipment for putting all of my songs together and blending everything in the way I want. I want this to be a professional sound. No amateur shit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Bro. Hope your week is going well.

Soundproofing/Deadening materials, good microphones. Gimme a day or two and I'm gonna refer you to some good YouTube channels to get some quality information.

Thanks as always man. Gonna get my soundproof studio set up next month. Getting my soundproof materials from soundproofcow.com. putting the soundproof materials in the walls and ceilings. Getting basement fully finished. It's a nice size space for a studio

Damn that was dope!!!!

That brotha's ridiculous.

He wasn't using a pick. Looks like he did all the strumming with the tips of his index and ring finger in down and upstrokes.
Then played the bass line with his thumb. If that's not bad enough, he was hitting a single chicken scratch on the 2 & 4 to simulate a snare.

Left hand, his fingers stayed in position on the fretboard the whole time he was sliding his thumb down for the bass notes.

So bro was playing bass, rhythm guitar and snare at the same time. :clown

I'm decent at chicken scratch and funk rhythm guitar. I strum with either a very thin gauge tortex pick or with my thumb.

That strumming with the fingers thing though, I'm not accustomed to at all. So I can play that guitar part only about 70%. But I'm gonna work on it.

I think there's no easy answer to that question. Personally, I would start with the basics that would be similar to what I mentioned, start creating music and then build from there as needed. I don't know what your workflow looks like. But there are many perspectives and options with which to craft what best fits you. Here's various scenarios to get inspiration from:

Henny Tha Business, successful music producer with some big names amongst his credits. He's an essential YouTube follow:

I think his perspective and personal story are interesting.

Yet, I know that creating a great song has almost nothing to do with whether or not one has vintage recording equipment. Equipment means zero if one doesn't have talent at songwriting. In general, I like where Adrian is stylistically, as music goes. It's similar at times to where my head is at. I've liked some of his stuff. I think he has some really good ideas and there's songs of his I dig. But I find his music overall to be hit or miss. The part he says about how he uses old instruments and equipment to make new music? I don't hear it. I hear him rehashing Roy Ayers and Marvin Gaye/Leon Ware type sound- but not as good as any of them and not original. Why listen to him if I can just listen to the original artists do it better?

I think this dude does the retro soul sound better:

And these guys
